I bat for my own team
In the spirit of the Aaron Black Airbus & other random conveyances, I bring you.....the Ben Jacobs Dodgem Car.

I see potential in the lad so I'll take the drivers seat (possibly by default) & welcome you all along for the ride. There's room for one adult or two children in the passengers seat along with as many as can hang on to the pole along the back & sides, with the possibility of getting burnt if reaching too high.

Those scared &/or short sighted can live a bruise free life & watch from behind the safety barriers.

Be prepared to fly in any direction at any time, even backwards if the car gets in too much traffic or loses control which could happen, again........ at any time. Those strong of conviction, willing to commit & ride the bumps along with wearing the occasional belting will be in for the ride of their life.

Beep Beep!!!
Ah yeah, with respect, you may recall that Port kinda didn't make any effort to keep him.

Might be a message in that.

As far as I recall, Port bitched and moaned and refused to accept pick 33 saying he was worth more.

Thoughts on the quality performances of Greenhead and McKenzie today and their outstanding statistical returns in full games of football?
Mckenzie, slow and lacks any physical presence on the field.

Greenwood, deserves his spot after good performances but his game today was below par. One thing about him is at least he wants the pill, I'm convinced a few others don't.

We tried to get a better pick because we were only using 3 picks that draft we had picks 7, 29 and 30 i think.

Pick 37 would have been useless.
Apparently Port tried to have a 3 team trade with St Kilda
Port would end up losing Jacobs for pick 25
North would get Jacobs for 37
Saints would get pick 30 and 37 and lose 25.

But saints were not interested in stockpiling picks despite being in a rebuilding stage.

Still, tried to make it harder for us to get him than "no effort"

I hate criticising our players so I better just shut up but if he gets another game I'll throw up. Has there ever been a player for us that has turned over the ball so many times. I counted 4 opposition goals directly from his disposals.
i was going to click the like button but it simply did'nt feel right, i want to like jacobs but jeeze he makes it hard...

Guys, it's not just Jacobs we should be singling out... take a look at the Effective Disposal Percentage.

Players < 50% (that's every SECOND disposal doesn't hit it's target)

Nick Dal Santo - 47.6%
Jacobs - 40%
Black - 50%

Now lets expand that out to < 60%

Petrie 53.8%
Thomas 53.8%
Greenwood 53.3%

Arguably, 5 of those 6 are our most important players. When your best players are missing their targets almost every second disposal, you're going to have a bad time

Decision making AND execution at times were poor however, he worked harder than most (probably fresher) should've had a free kick in the forward 50 for holding the ball and kick the post from 50+

Needs a spell in the VFL.
The funny thing is at least he can get the pill (not much use at the moment when you constantly turn it over), so what do we rather? McKenzie who can't find the thing to save himself and has no defensive side to his game whatsoever or Jacobs who can get it and is good on the inside, but torches it constantly?

I think I will actually take Jacobs. You can teach a bloke to dispose of the ball better (just see Jab Watson), but you can't teach a player to go get the thing.

As you mentioned, he was far from the lone ranger yesterday, even guys like Boomer were torching it.

I think their might be a glimmer of light at the end of the Jacobs tunnel.

I rather bring in LA than have Jacobs playing, he has shown that he doesn't have the mental smarts for AFL, i hope he goes through some maturing faze or something, but at the moment its hard to find a player that could perform worse.

Wroom Wroom back to the Royal Melbourne Show
If LA ever plays for us again I will spew. So you would swap a player that at least has some hardness, for a soft unaccountable turnover merchant WTF?!?!?

Not sure what we saw in him to be honest, sure he might have been a decent junior but he didn't show anything positive at Port to chase him.
I'm not sure what Port saw in him to begin with. At junior level, he played the loose, sweeping man in defense which let him rack up 40+ uncontested disposals per game. He's similar to Sam Colquhoun, in that they played in a similar role at junior level. Sam was overlooked in the draft until we took him with our PSD pick, who's arguably showed more than Jacobs. Still, I think Jacobs is worth persisting with and can end up being a solid, valuable contributor.

A bit of a comparison:

Jacobs 15 touches at 40%, 4 tackles (only behind Greenwood) in 38% game time.

McKenzie 12 touches, 1 tackle at 75% in 76% game time.

Yes, his disposal was poor yesterday, his decision making was poor but at least he was having a crack, unlike some who are found out when the heat is applied.

I second that, just an inexperienced bloke who would be better for the experience in the longer term.

Speaking of McKenzie, I wouldn't play him in the seniors until his one on one efforts are of AFL standard. If that will ever happen or not is another story, but right at the moment, he isn't good enough and we are no longer in position to be giving games.

Not against teams who apply intense physical pressure. Right now he just doesn't offer enough in that regard. He is a luxury.

If it takes a player like Dal to tell a young bloke to go for goal in the heat of the battle, then that points to the fact there aren't many others directing traffic on the field for us.

“With Dal he’s a calm head out there. He’s probably the best communicator I’ve played with out on the ground," Jacobs added.

“For example as I soon as I got the ball he was calling out ‘goals’, so he helped leave no doubt at all in my mind with what to do.”
