Toast Brad Sheppard (2010 - 2021)

Sheppard NAB R2: Builds on solid first week, SPECTRE training going well.

Although West Coast struggled against PA, Sheppard again showed what he is capable of. He built on an excellent first week to show again another excellent week. What isn't shown is how much of an impact he had. Several times PA were counter attacking, and he made that crucial touch, or that crucial mark to stop the attack. Even better was his attacking flair. For years people have been calling for him to use his pace, he produced a bit last season, but in that game he showed plenty of dash. A highlight was his run through the middle, but then composed enough to stop and look for the right option. Sheppard is showing that he belongs in the B22. Admire and fear the great sheppard, for he will lead the sheep.

Remi's season's pre-review: no bull, no crap

Statistics Expected:
17 disposals (up from av. 14)
2 Marks
3 R50
70 DT/AF

Let's all be bloody honest for this post. No bullcrap from me talking up Sheppard like a crazy man, none of that. Ain't nobody got time for that. For this post I'm serious.

This is the season that will make or break Sheppard. He's had opportunity after opportunity. He's seen Woosha go, seen Glass go, seen Kerr/Embley go. Now is the time for him to stamp who he is on the AFL. Last season he showed tremendous progress. Aggressive + using his speed through the middle, he turned from a fringe player to a B22. But now it's a new season, and it's time for him to do it again. Injuries curtailed his almost 'breakout' season, we'll see what happens this season. Let's look at him in greater detail.

Pros:
+ Sheppard's pre-season. He's been in absolutely tremendous form in the NAB cup. Bodes well for him
+ Speed - Showed last year as he used his speed to excellent effect.
+ Improved size - not much, but bigger than last year.
+ Disposal. When on form, has a beautiful kick
+ Increased 1v1 winning ability - Improved from when he first came into the league
+ Will peak now that he's 24 + over 50 games

Cons:
- Defensive work is suspect.
- Tends to be a bit fumbly/panicky with the ball under pressure
- Competition. Schofield, Nelson, Duggan, Bennell, Ellis, Yeo are all some of the names who he will be fighting for a spot in the backline

Stats Wise:

Statistically last season was his best in terms of kicks, disposals and marks (overall).
Played 59 out of a possible 120ish games for his career.
Averaged 14 disposals last season

Remi's Eagles Comparison: Brett Jones aka Russell Coight

Don't underestimate the effect BJ had on the game. Even as he got older, wily BJ knew how to play the game and got the best out of himself. Possessed the ability to burn away defenders and blister down the middle/wing. Sheppard has many of the same attributes that BJ has.

Expectations:
- Breakout season
- Solidified as B22

Best Case Scenario:
- All Australian

Worst Case Scenario:
- Injured
and/or delisted

Remi's suggestion for DT:
Pick him up. He's probably cheap. And will do well.

Round 1: Bulldogs beat valiant Eagles.

Midfield was slow. Midfield was a letdown. We lost Beast Brown. But this is about the future hall of famer Sheppard.

Sheppard Family News: Sheppard's cousin Shaun Marsh got married last weekend to some hot blond bird. He also made the Test team. So I guess he gets women and plays test cricket. Not bad for a guy who everyone hates for underperforming. There's some crazy ass pun that could be said in there, dodging it though.

Poor output from Sheppard surprisingly. Was expecting a bit more, but then considering how badly the Eagles defense was under the pump, I thought Sheppard played admirably and did what he could in a losing effort. While Shep is still developing into the Commander we all know he can be, the signs are promising that he can have a solid season, barring injury. Hurn and McGovern have stepped up, and it's time for him to finally become the star I know he can be.

Round 2: Kennedy strikes double figures, Sheppard shines

Big news lads.
Shep went huge last game

17 Kicks
8 Handballs
4 Marks
3 Tackles
93 DT/AF

Huge game from Sheppard. His DT/AF scores are hotter than Emily Blunt in that sci-fi movie with that crazy dude Tom Cruise. His potential is higher than Sheed, and his performance was absolutely outstanding. This was easily the best game of Sheppard's career for WCE, and there are many more to come. Everyone who has doubted him will fall to their knees and witness the one who will lead the defense out in this dark time, with blistering speed and pace through the middle, pin point precision on his kicking and a work rate and ethic unheard of. Ladies and Gentlemen...this is only the beginning. And it's exciting.

Let's just be blatantly obvious here. The ones who have come before me...they did a trash job.
Wait, what? I dedicated a whole round of every season to this bloke!

You have to be the best sponsor on this board. I've subscribed to every player sponsor thread you've done over the last few years and was really excited when you got Shep.

Thank you for your kind words good sir.
Appreciate it

Round 3:

We don't speak of Round 3.
The first rule of Round 3 is never talk about Round 3.

Round 4: Shep against the Lions

Living in QLD now, I have little to no sympathy for the whalloping the Eagles gave the Lions. Sheppard was decent, hit the scoreboard which was promising to see. However one fumble was absolutely terrible where he turned the ball over. If Zorko wasn't such a trash idiot player it would have been a certain goal. Sheppard needs to work on his composure with the ball, normally with time and space he's fine, but he took a step too many this time and it almost cost the Eagles dearly. On the positive side however, was that Shep did kick a goal, grabbed 5 marks and had 15 disposals, 1 more than his usual average. While not as good as his Round 2 game, Shep is showing some solid consistency and pace through the Eagles HBF.

Round 4: Sheppard cuts down beanstalk, Giants fall

In an absolute throbbing, it was a huge game from Shep. Played extremely well in the first half, little to no action in the 2nd. However his first half was arguably his finest half in his sensational career, setting up 3 goals. Excellent defensively as well, Sheppard played with poise, intensity and speed. Although the Giants played poorly, it was good to see Sheppard play an excellent game and have all the bigfooty forum posters raving about him.
Funny how 1 sponsor can change a player's career isn't it.

Sheppard watch:
3rd quarter, 8:13 left on the clock.
Sheppard changes his mind at the last moment, absolute spear right onto Sinclair's chest from 40m away with plenty of opposition around.
Brilliant foot skills.

Round 6: Eagles win thriller

Eagles have just taken out one of the premiership favourites with a gritty and determined effort. A full team effort, Eagles beat the first Top 8 side in what feels like years and probably is years. With Bigfooty celebrating, it was simply ridiculous how Sheppard played. It was a testament to the coaching and cohesion of the entire Eagles defense that held up strongly. Butler, Wellers, Hurn, Schofield, Mcgov, Bennell. All covered each other extremely well and make it bloody tough. Sheppard firmly showed that with every game he still is improving, with a supreme effort. Defensively excelled, while offensively did excellent thing as well, there was very little you could say negative about Sheppard's game.

Round 7: Sheppard SHINES once again

One thing is for sure. Sheppard has taken his game to the next level. Again he was prolific against the hapless suns, showing that he can dominate both crap and good teams. Scary moment however in the 4th quarter as due to Schofield's inefficiencies, Wellingham came crashing into Sheppard's legs. Happy to report from Simmo that the man who will save us all is okay, and should be fine to play. Again Sheppard's ball use and composure under pressure was exemplary, as he showed plenty of dash and excellent decision making. Even better for those who have Sheppard in their DT, he scored a season high 88 AF points. Sheppard is one of the ones who now has BF members singing his praises after a lot of doubt and flak pre-season. Commander Sheppard has arrived gentlemen, and once again I prove what a maestro at sponsorship I am.

Round 8: Eagles tested by Saints

In a game that was surprisingly close at some points in the game, Eagles's class and skill simply came out on top. Eagles like Yeo are absolutely having a breakout season, but more accolades are coming in for Commander Sheppard. Once hated and doubted by all, only I stood above the rest and thought he had the potential to become very, very good. Gentlemen, he's been doing extremely well this entire year. Commander Sheppard is now here. And this time he hit the scoreboard against the Saints. Tough, skillful, skinny, he's basically the second coming of Tom Swift.

Round 9: Sheppard too strong for Cats.

7 Contested Disposals, 88% DE. 17 disposals. Says it all really.
It was a full game from Commander Sheppard as he was sublime in his disposal of the ball. Nothing could stop him, nothing could halt him. He was a man on a mission and he completed that mission easily hands down. Again Sheppard has shown he has added notches to his game with the 7 contested possessions and his poise under pressure. AF is a huge stat for fantasy owners, but Sheppard shows far more than his AF scores will register.

Round 10: Ridiculous Conditions in Hobart

This game was ridiculous for a few things

1. Hobart, when WA teams have to travel so much already, to send WA teams to Hobart is ridiculous.
2. The wind in the stadium was ridiculous
3. Scott Selwood in the middle is ridiculous and coming straight back in.

Not much I can say. Our midfield was destroyed by Simmo's coaching to stick Yeo in the backline instead of in the middle. And he puts Scott Selwood instead. Bugger me.

Ignoring my ranting, Sheppard played as well as he could in the circumstances. He was very busy, racking up a good size of disposals. Once again he showed that even in terrible conditions his disposal is top notch. Even more pleasing is that he also did some excellent rebounding from 50 and laid 3 tackles. Sheppard is showing that he is EASILY B22, and someone will get sacrificed other than Sheppard for Ellis to come back. Probably Nelson. Regardless, Sheppard continues to impress the bigfooty clan, and all are singing his praises. Heck, he's been so good that there's a toast thread for him. Doesn't get any better than that.

Round 11: Sheppard stops Cerberus bombs in WA

It was a clinical performance by the WCE defense once again. They never really looked threatened, even with Mits on one leg and covered in medi-gel. Sheppard again was at his best, using the ball beautifully to aid his teammates. One thing to know of Commander Sheppard is how he's improved in the air. Took a very nice mark at half back against opposition and clunked it. A few years ago that was unthinkable, once again the Commander is exceeding our expectations and showing that he will be a very good player, and still has plenty of growth in his game. Another testament to his growth was his work rate out of defense. A lot of running off-ball to provide an option which was also excellent to see.

Round 12: Sheppard shines against clawless Tigers

I cant really say much nowadays except to keep singing the praises of Sheppard. The man is a machine, absolutely destroying opposition and doing things that no human at 186 should be possible. He was tasked with keeping the flog Vickery and the Juggernaut Jack in check, and did it sublime. Although he fought valiantly, he was tremendously undersized but limited their impact on the game severely. Even better, Big Bunga Hurn, another esteemed Captain of the Alliance Fleet came in and laid a nice hip and shoulder on Vickery, no doubt every Eagles player raising their voice in unison. Sheppard is showing his customary dash, improved marking, brilliant spoiling and sublime disposal and the Eagles are flying high.

Round 14: Sheppard Prolific against the hellspawn.

In another win in an emotionally charged week, the Eagles stood tall and delivered against Melbourne who were coming off a big win against Geelong. No doubt rattled by the loss of a great leader and someone close to them, Sheppard continued to lead from the front, playing out of his mind once again. Easily one of the biggest improvers in this team, again he shone.

To Phil Walsh, may he rest in peace.

Round 15: Remembering Walsh

This game isn't so much about the win, nor about the players. Rather it was about respecting the great man Walsh. As a result, I'm keeping this very short in respect to Phil Walsh, who brought so much to the Eagles. Sheppard played well and almost kicked a goal. He was also called out in Eagle Vision rd 14 for his vast improvement as a player.
