I might get lambasted for this but we should play him in the Monfries role next year. He's a good forward, big tank and would work most HBFers over.
He went forward last night for a little while and was woeful... this could work but off last nights effort I wouldn't have thought so.

I have never been a stanton basher but he kept falling to ground, half hearted contents, week tackling efforts... not saying we need to trade but if we got a good offer then why not.

Used to be a big fan of stanton but my fanfare has wavered the second half of this season. Hate to say it but he is becoming irrelevant, slow, soft and poor decision maker. But there is no way essendon will trade a 200 game player

I mean I won't even get into how ******* ridiculous it is that we should give Howlett a pass over Stanton because although he's done less we expect more from Stanton, yet we should give Hibberd a pass over Stanton because although we expect more from Hibberd, he's done more than Stanton.
It's the number on his back.

My issue with Stanton last night wasn't his disposal count or anything like that, which seems to be raised by some regarding Winderlich and Howlett.

My issue was that most times when he was involved in play, he either lost his feet; got beaten to the ball; took too long to react; made a poor decision with the ball; or outright turned it over.

I think he was genuinely a liability out there.

It's almost like Ben Howlett's played 80 odd games and Brent Stanton's played over 200.

Or more to the point, rines was picking and choosing her "evidence" to support her preconceived position.
He's a senior leader of the midfield. I judge him by higher standards than I do most others. Like I do Jobe, Chap, Goddard etc. Stanton was bloody ordinary last night. At one point he got beaten on pace to the ball by TODD GOLDSTEIN ffs.

Congratulations. You've successfully missed my point.

Should give Mzungu a call.

Tendai's the kind of player that Stanton should be, despite the games differential.
Different players peak at different times. Stanton's prime shits on Tendai's.

Edit: Yes I was wrong about their ages and tried a sneaky edit but comparing the two just isn't fair.

So he dogged a contest ? that's worse!! There is room for slow players but there is no room for pea hearts especially when they have played 200 games !!
No he was thinking big guy gets to the ball first, goes to ground trying to take it and then he'll just either pick up the ball and run away or get a stoppage or maybe even a free kick in this crazy mixed up game.

I'll grant that since I haven't seen a replay, but there were the other times he failed to keep his feet. Or didn't use the ball well enough. Or wasn't in the right position to create an option upfield. All things we've come to expect him to do. He was bloody ordinary.

Why not back his pace to beat the ruck man pick the ball up cleanly or tap it forward then pick it up cleanly and kick a funking goal like the leader he is supposed to be

Stants is not good enough, everyone keeps going on about his ability to run out games? sorry folks I do not see it, always looks tired.

Far too slow, can't play forward as he can't lead. MASSIVE liability, not just last night either.

I haven't either tbf. My memory may have painted it differently..

Can't argue with any of that.

Why indeed? I would have thought getting to the ball first was the better option.

Only thing I can think of is maybe he couldn't see any options if he took the ball first himself (because let's face it there was a fair chance he would have gone to ground too) so he wanted to hold it up.

Like I said though I haven't seen a replay. I could be making this up entirely.
