I must be the only one who thought he played well for most of the game. Had a shithouse effort on Crisp at half-back late in the third, but up to that point, was doing exactly the role we asked of him and giving us consistent precision out of the defensve 50. Seemed obvious to me at the time that we were breaking down with the long bombs inside 50, not the distribution from half-back.

Maybe my eyes are painted on

I thought last night was his best game and his last few weeks have been much better

🤷‍♂️

That makes two of us.

He was not brought in as a lock down defender. Never played that role at the Dogs yet was an integral part of their success and was an AA.

He clearly complimented a very solid defensive unit there but he's got nowhere to hide with the likes of Corr and McDonald who routinely give their opponents space and give you nothing in terms of rebound.

He's turned it over 40 times from 300 touches this year.

There are so, so many blokes that could do this job better. And it would cost 1/5th of what this blokes brings home a week and would've been essentially for free from a trade perspective.

Ge gets hidden defensively, poorly, is handed the footy CONSTANTLY and just gives it away.

It's just a ****ing disgrace. Straight up. Not even blaming the bloke himself.

He is such a liability defensively. His gets torched for pace and pushed off easily when he tackles.

His kicking would need to be absolutely elite for him to hold his place with his deficiencies. As posted earlier, he's second in the league for defensive half turnovers.

And it's not like he's going to suddenly get better. This is as good as he's got.

A shit sandwich implies that the two things either side of the shit are better than the shit. I think a shit tub of Neopolitan ice cream is more apt.
A shit casserole.

He's a ****ing Temu wolverine. FFS & FMD!

When the trade happened I backed us in and thought ok, we know what we're doing. Lucky for me I wasn't around when Cpt Edward John ****ing Smith jumped behind the wheel of the Titanic. I'd have been all aboard that sh!t.

And these same decision makers then decided to go next level incompetence and trade our future first for a player no other club deemed worthy of taking in the top 25. No one except us, we had him top 11 on our draft board.

My point is our very Logan Daniel will only be the second worst trade/draft decision we made in 2024. So kind of good news.

You are right. Thats about how I saw it. I left 5 minutes into the last, wasnt watching that.

However, the issue is we use him far too often. Its just so predictable

The facts are he is defensively inept, often bites off more than he can chew kicking wise as he isn't a penetrating kick and stat pads by getting handball receives he has no right to call for.

To top it all off, he cost us pick 25. If he cost a f3 I doubt anyone here would give a shit.

He went at 76% last night with a lot of the ball, kick ins were much improved as well

I mean, our full back is a defensive liability and so is our former captain, we aren’t recruiting him to lock down on someone, it’s to get us out of defence which I think he has improved at was much better last night

As I said I thought he was much better last night apart from a couple of errors and has been better the last 3-4 weeks

Whilst I think he's been a bit better than many make out, I have two gripes with him.

1) Not his fault, but we gave up pick #25 for a player the Dogs would have possibly delisted and probably stuck in the VFL this year. I hate North at trade week.

2) We brought in two 300-gamers and a 200-gamer - all premiership players and AAs - for onfield leadership, to halt runs of goals against us and to calm the farm when things go bad. All three have had their moments, but none have made one iota of difference in this regard.

I copped it last year when I said this trade was the height out of recruiting stupidity….

Yet here we are. Pick twenty-F&@$ing-five
It was always an overpay, especially in that draft. The limitations were also there for everyone to see.
Understand the premiership, AA and experience angle of adding him to the group, but not at that price.

You're probably the minority who's right.

I was too harsh on him.

Seems to me he is being coached to play that way because they are so desperate to have the ball in his hands.
I also believe that the coaches orders are for the players to find Daniel for the exit whenever they can. We see Chom almost robotically seek out Caleb at every opportunity to the detriment of his own clearer opportunity to exit the ball from defence. LMac frequently does the same and even Harry is doing it.

The trouble is, we often give up ground to find Daniel, his kick, even if effective is often still only metres forward of the previous possession, opponents can predict where he is likely to kick to and they're also given extra time to flood into our midfield and forward line.

It's the game plan, no doubt.

I don't mind this idea of playing him half forward, but who brings it out of defence? We have too many ordinary ball users back there.
