Daniel used to cut us to pieces off their hbf. Because his teammates ran to spots for those dinky little kicks. That's what Clarkson wants happening ... but it isn't right now.
Those dinky kicks were so effective for the bulldogs they moved him out of the hb role, and eventually out of the team.

The game has gone past this guy like a bullet.

I thought he tried his guts out and wasn't half as bad as people are describing. For some reason our people just haven't warmed to him.
He may have 'tried his guts out' but he just completely ineffective as a defender - couldn't even compete in a marking contest against Watson last week or Libba this week - and they don't get any smaller than that. It must be infuriating for our other defenders knowing they are playing one short back there.

But worst of all is his kicking - the competition worked out his kicking limitations years back and that's why he was finished at the Dogs. But somehow Clarko thought he knew best and paid up big time to get him.

Now that Clarko has invested so much in CD he cannot drop him - even though we have very capable young users in Hardeman and Kerch playing the exact role that CD plays.

Clarko has backed himself into a corner now and its an embarrassing display of football ignorance from a once great coach. We simply don't need CD back there - we didn't need him at start of the year and we definitely don't need him now - yet Clarko will keep playing him.

I think he'll be good for us my bro, but for example out of 9 disposals in the first quarter on the weekend, none of them could be described as the types that we got him for, and that included a number of kick ins. The only effective kicks he made were barely 15m chips.

It also included 2 mung off the boot turnovers and getting smothered on the kick in, lol.

He's struggling despite the high disposal numbers but I'm backing him to get back to what he's good at.
Alarmingly this post from April is still exactly what we're seeing.

That doesn't work anymore with the way all teams are pressing up to try and lock the ball in their front half. All the space in Daniel's kicking range is blocked up. Those dinky kicks just get picked off now, which is why the dogs took him out of defense. You need players who can penetrate the zone by running at and through it and kicking over the back of it. Daniel can't help with any of this.

Jesus Christ marklovesbeer I know you’re over him but there’s no need to shit on his face.

Never know, he could be into that shit?

Can’t fathom what capital we gave up to get him because Brady is such a doormat. Remember Caleb never requested a trade either and maybe never really wanted to come here

Issue is Clarko will never ever drop him? Because when Archer comes back I’d love for him to replace him

I would play C. Harvey over Caleb every day of the week. It’s frightening to think the stakeholders of the club think Caleb is better option.
I reckon if Boomer slipped the number 5 gurnsey and a helmet on to the young bloke who did the coin toss last night we'd see a player with more intensity and more ability to transition the ball forward than the current number 5.

Boomer's youngest kid is probably faster than Daniels and would can probably kick further as well.

I am convinced our transition from D50 will improve 100% as soon as he aint a part of it, i feel sorry for the other defenders watching the pill sail back over their heads almost without fail every time he is the distributor, must be dropped to VFL asap
Exactly.

Whatever the exit plan is, once the ball is in his hands, instead of him passing off (the club would have anticipated him hitting targets on the chest 8 times out of 9) he stops, changes direction, scuttles back, takes a bounce, runs in some other direction then either handballs or dinky kicks to some poor bastard who's bamboozled at what just happened while being sold into immediate an pressure situation or he's tackled and penalised for HTB.

I saw a highlight reel of him at western today Ferb's. He was changing direction a fair bit but his kicks were almost all over 40 metres, sometimes 50 and he was hitting targets. Admittedly, Bont, Dale, Norton and blokes who understand space and can take a mark.

He wasn't kicking 10m squibs.

But also lmac, corr etc screaming for it sideways. He goes to a voice. It needs to stop. The other teams love lmac receiving that kick and just set up

Hawthorn didn't set up like that. They had heaps of space up the ground but we didn't even try to use it properly.

I reckon Clarkson wants a player who can play that sort of system for several years while the team learns to play to it and then can pass on the baton to guys like (hopefully) Goater as well as Hardeman, Archer, Whitlock and even Chom. Maybe even the likes of Sheeze, Kerch and FOS. If they all know how to play it then they all can make it work.

Until they all learn to play to it properly we'll see it break down alot and when it does all the things he gets criticised for will happen.
