Firstly, he was a highly rated member of a very good team. Cant be denied. Well done - premiership player, bnf and AA.

But he is a unique player with massive deficiencies. We have taken him on with the same deficiencies but they are rapidly getting worse as he has seemingly lost any athleticism and strength. He would be in the bottom 10 in the comp for a lot of metrics. And sinking.
And his disposal strengths are fast fading compounded by the massive loss of belief that he must be feeling and being in a backline filled with very poor ground defenders (or missing the good one in archer) and mostly poor users. He needs to be in a side where he is not being asked to defend much - its currently a terrible set up for his skillset and he is a terrible fit for our team.

Look at our backline this week.
Its close to a worst ever in terms of experience and skill.
Pink - supp list who has played a couple of good games in his career - exposed on sunday.
Comben - fractured scapula, learning to be a defender. Looked injured.
Hardeman - looks good but very early days
W Dawson - ditto
Logue - words wont cover it.
In wings - archer and goater with huge body issues, whitlock - a couple of years off. Lmac - solid undersized air defender, poor on ground and poor user.

Not sure how daniel improves that.
But its scary for next few years unless there is rapid development or huge luck. Or we move someone from elsewhere - lobb like.
And CD isnt any solution - he is part of a huge problem.

l would still play him instead of Logue....And McDonald in place of Daniel if possible atm..

When we went and got this bloke, I actually think he was the right type we needed. The only 2 blokes that can hit a target in the backline were Colby and Harry, and we obviously wanted to push these blokes further up the ground, given both started the season either on the wing or in the guts.

Since then, Colby has shown he can be that bloke in the backline, but also push forward to be the inside 50 kick as well, and hardeman has shown the ability to be trusted with ball in hand, and so has FOS in his time back there. All 3 have essentially overtaken Daniel and do his role better. That is actually a good thing. The role we needed Daniel’s for is now filled better than it was last year, it’s just not by Daniel’s.

It’s like if a side desperately needed a key forward, so they trade a first round pick for Max King

Multiple players found. Use birthday to differentiate. eg [PLAYERCARD="23/11/1962"]Joe Smith[/PLAYERCARD]

. They also have a young big key forward (Treacy) they picked in the rookie draft 2 years early. The next season, King can hardly mark, kicking for goal is average, and he is a shell of the player he was previously. Where Treacy takes a huge leap from the previous season, and becomes a gun big key forward.

The role you desperately needed filled, has been filled. It’s just not by the guy you originally planned. The dumb thing to do is continue to play King, to the detriment of the team, because you used a first round pick on him. Check out Collingwood and Geelong. They don’t give a rats a**e what ‘value’ of pick they used to get you. You play if you are a benefit to the team. Either find Daniel a new role, or drop him.
