AFL Autopsy 5 goal loss to Swans

Haven’t enjoyed an Essendon loss before, so last night was an extremely weird feeling of being disappointed that we still aren’t good enough, be proud that our club has turned into a bunch of campaigners, once again.

We will lose games this year, but we are gonna to make sides earn their win, which is all I ask.

Also seems like the puzzle is becoming a bit clearer. We are still not fit enough as a club, which is why we are so easily cut up on defensive transition.

Ehhh might have been interesting if the umps paid the free to Langford for high contact with like 4 minutes to go. Think it would have brought the margin back to 11 points. Swans to good with their foot skills and our transition defence was terrible. Missing Ridley.
In Sydney? Play on!!
At the other end, Hind and Papley were locked together at the stoppage and the result is a free to Papley. So predictable!

There was that horrid night a few years back where people were saying one ump gave 15 or so straight frees to the Swans at the SCG (not sure how true that was). But Tippa was getting all but undressed in contests when we went forward and got nothing - he even complained to the ump in a manner not normal for him. The Swans go down their end someone slapped Papley on the forearm, free kick Sydney, goal.

Welcome to playing Sydney in Sydney wearing the sash!!

Red time lapses and struggling to cover transition are most likely symptoms of the same fitness issue.
Not to say our players aren’t fit, but a lot of them are still working on building their tank.

Still, we matched it with one of the best in the comp through physicality which for a team that the entire comp has in the bottom 6 is a really good sign and good news for overall buy in

Come on now the Swans were basically running on fumes at the end there too. They just had a bit more gas in the tank and broke away.

This team overran the hawks so they are somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Team culture was so bad wouldn’t have done much. Merrett got kicked out of the leadership group for having suggested it. Stringers got the edge but not the tank
Everyone is running on fumes at the end, always

The swans just got a lot further on their tank.

What a bunch of sooks. It's been about 20 years since the opposition complained about a tough Essendon. They criticise Essendon for being soft and now all of a sudden it's too much?

I hope Scott instructs them to keep at it by physically hurting St Kilda players. I want to see it every week.
