Such deception deserves a tuneI will forever be grateful to Jack for sparking one of the most satisfying lucid dreams I've ever had. Stay with me fellas...
Believe it or not, Nebular is not my birth name.
I happen to share the moniker J. Ross with our boy Jack. So a few years back, I think around 2022, I was discussing footy with a few workmates on a Friday, and when one of them pulled up the team sheet and saw J. Ross named in our team. Workmates then commenced the crappy jokes about me playing for Richmond on the weekend, debuting as a 45 year old, etc, etc....
Well that night my brain did the right thing for once and started dreaming of the game. I happened to become aware it was a dream and if you know anything about lucid dreaming you know at this point you can control what happens.
So even though I know it wasn't real, I still have a vivid memory of playing for Richmond against the Hawks at the MCG as a 45 year old, a feat never achieved before or since.
So thanks Jack, for sharing your name with me. Forever grateful.

I reckon his form dropped off for the first half of the year, but in the second half I thought he was pretty good. That Round 1 win when he was brilliant, he needs to produce more of that...A first-game gun fed him two goals, but he was still in the right spots for it...After that (for the season), he just kind of hung in there...He can't just hang in there, anymore
Yeah that’s fair…I just think he’s capable of doing it week in, week out…Like a Taranto…I reckon his form dropped off for the first half of the year, but in the second half I thought he was pretty good.
The disparity between his best and worst performances remains significant; achieving the consistency that has eluded him thus far is essential for his sustained success.I reckon his form dropped off for the first half of the year, but in the second half I thought he was pretty good.
Not quite sure of that. He really hasn't locked down his position due mainly to the more experience players he has had to content against. The disparity between his best and worst performances remains significant; achieving the consistency that has eluded him thus far is essential for his sustained success.
The question is 'can he do it?'
Yeah yeah they all know that but why isnt he as good as Dusty yetJack Ross is one of about 3 blokes that I'm happy to have the ball as usually hits a target in a better position. Just a good footballer
I think that's his biggest problem with his detractors. Why isn't he as good as Dusty or Cotch or Sheds yet?Yeah yeah they all know that but why isnt he as good as Dusty yet
Exactly right. IMO Ross is a natural half forward flanker who will get better when surrounded by talented players. He is an OK midfielder but he’s best value is when he can use his composure and his kicking to deliver the ball into the forward line. We have kids who will be better in the midfield than Ross but players in the Kane mould are gold. That Round 1 win when he was brilliant, he needs to produce more of that...A first-game gun fed him two goals, but he was still in the right spots for it...After that (for the season), he just kind of hung in there...He can't just hang in there, anymore
I think his best football is as a pure mid, and he has shown that when allowed to play it. He’s a good user and has a decent defensive work rate, best of our experienced mids anyway. We have told him we want him to play the high half forward role and he can.Exactly right. IMO Ross is a natural half forward flanker who will get better when surrounded by talented players. He should be fine for a couple more years. If he keeps improving then he will have a spot.I like him, its just hard to see him locking down a spot with all the kids coming through.
Hes 26 this year, he won't have much improvement left. Reckon hes going to be good depth for the most part, especially if McAuliffe can lock down a spot.He should be fine for a couple more years. If he keeps improving then he will have a spot.
But if our array of talented kids meet their potential then we will have a deep midfield. Very very deep and very very talented.
Big if though
He has the ability to oust Prestia and Hopper this season, whether he rises to that or the match committee back their old hands remains to be seen. McAuliffe is the real plus if he comes on.Hes 26 this year, he won't have much improvement left. Reckon hes going to be good depth for the most part, especially if McAuliffe can lock down a spot.

Don't think he'll ever push Hopper out of the team, Id rather Ross play than Prestia though. He has the ability to oust Prestia and Hopper this season, whether he rises to that or the match committee back their old hands remains to be seen. McAuliffe is the real plus if he comes on.
Realistically none of our new kids will be full time mids this season, so if Taranto, McAuliffe and Ross can gell in there it would improve us. Hopper and Prestia less important with the kids rolling through as well not so bad.
Yeah he has his moments, just cant do it consistently. Hopefully this year.He looked a lot more like a good AFL player through the midfield at some points last year. What I mean is that he does more of that. Whether that is more to with the coaches than him is another issue though.
For some reason Ooze has tended to play a very static midfield based around the holy trio of old guys. Hopefully he changes that up, and then Ross fills the spot well.
At best, over time I see him being passed and become a 2nd tier mid/utility for us. But in the meantime here's hoping.
To me Hopper is a big problem. His slowness on the spread is horrible. He can get his hands on it, but so can Ross. If Taranto wasn't there Hopper would be fine, but together (and with Prestia), they would be 3 of the slowest mids in the league. We got away with it against bottom sides, just, but the game is getting faster and faster.Don't think he'll ever push Hopper out of the team, Id rather Ross play than Prestia though.
Agree none of Lalor, Hotton, Campbell, Cumming etc will play mid full time but they all can rotate through and have far more upside.
Yeah he has his moments, just cant do it consistently. Hopefully this year.
Taranto should play more half forward. Hopper is slow but has a good sidestep. I expect he will look better than ever when we finally have a balanced midfield around him.To me Hopper is a big problem. His slowness on the spread is horrible.
