Welcome to the board. Firstly, Grant is exactly a towering forward height wise. But will be a taught to be a 2nd/3rd string forward. So i suppose you can still be pissed off. The Bone Man on the other hand could be that ape between the sticks you are after.

Umm obviously can kick goals? Really? Since when is it obvious seeing as though he has never done that?
McDougall, well he clearly failed as a forward this year and played some special games at Werribee as a back man and was in the dogs best players when played down back. Go figure - Eade kept him there.

I think everyone that went forward struggled in 2007 except Johnno!

If our players up the ground didn't dick around with the ball and over use it so much our forwards would stand more of a chance.

Doogs- When did you ever see him get kicked the ball when he was one on one deep inside 50! The answer is never! And another reason is because Eade tried to play him up around CHF and on a flank when playing forward. He was also unfairly rotated on and off the bench with Darcy out of full forward. Give him the same amount of time as Darcy spent at full forward and then I can accept he isn't good enough! Tiller was the same, when he was down there they would only kick long to him as a last resort! By the time we were kciking it in deep opposition sides had flooded back and tripled teamed most of our targets!

But hey, our midfield looked great as the all averaged great stats! Stat's are bloody overrated!

Solutions! Kick longer and show more faith in whoever is at full forward in a one on one battle!

Spot on Koby it's been frustrating to watch the unwillingness to kick long to a contest. Contested footy wins Grand Finals.:thumbsu:

I agree. But you see the sides that play this brand of football(eg Geelong), they have big power forwards who can take a contested mark, or at worst bring the ball down to the crumbers. We have no power forwards of any note, resulting in us playing small forwards, hence our style of trying to hit forwards(johnson) on the lead.

Thats why I want more than anything, a restructered forward line in 2008 with some big bodied forwards up there, so we can play a more direct style of game.

Just saw on another thread (Jarrad Grant/Scott Simpson) on the drafting/delisting board from a few months ago.

There appears to be some concern over this guys beep test result from earlier in the year being a very poor result.

With a big question mark on his aerobic fitness

Does anyone know his beep test score from the AFL draft camp in October ?

Did a poor result in the beep test stop the kid from taking the highest % of contested marks in the TAC Cup? Did it also stop him from kicking the highest % of goals per game?

Understand that this was only against kids his own age, but seriously who gives a toss about the beep test. The kid looks to have some serious talent and while understanding aerobic fitness plays a big part so does the ability to actually get the ball.

Agreed, it's much easier to improve fitness than football nous too, as long as the kids worth ethic is there, which by all accounts it is.

More time he is on the ground the more ball he will get

Less time he is on the ground the less ball he will get

I'm just hopefull that he is not a spent force later in the quarters and later in the game.

Never thought about it that way...;)

We just have to wait and see how it pans out, the kid looks promising and endurance is something that can be added. The ability to get the ball is something that can't be.

He is now, well in about 2 hours, in an environment that will allow him to get out what he puts in, the ball is in his court. If he wants to work hard and give it his all he looks to have a very bright future. If he wants to slack off he will probably end up on the scrap heap as natural talent will only get you so far.

With some good mates around him I am sure Grant will give it a real crack and become a good player for the club.

But footy ability can't be improved and that is the reason he was drafted so early.

Thats true.

It is weird, in most of the draft guides, they say that Grant was the most talented player in the draft. And without saying it, the subtle implication is there that his work ethic needs improving. Not that anyone said it, just the impression I got from reading the article.

The statistic that I love about him, was the 40% of his marks came in contested situations. Being able to take a contested pack mark is like gold in this day and age.

Personally, i am wrapped that we picked up Grant. Ther happiest I have been about a draft selection for a long while

Just hope it does improve, because heart / lung capacity which relate to it is one of those things that generally decrease over time after you reach 20.

I reckon Doc's Landsberger and Zimmerman might be spending a bit of time first up with young Jarrad, checking for asthma, sleep apnea, hay fever / allergies, smoking, joint discomfort / soreness, heart health, diet, blood count, etc

Prior to zipping him into his training regime.

What is Anthony Rocca's beep test results?

How about Chris Grant?

And the G-train?

I just want a general idea of how some bigger guys do so feel free to add any other random talls.

This thread has the results of all the Vic based players pre-season + screening tests.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=397830

Grant had a 12.1 result pre-season and 12.2 result post season. Robbie Tarrant went from 11.1 to 14.2.

In the age today Clayton says Grant is a better player now then what Fev was at his age. We may have found ourselves a star. hopefully more like a Pavlich. Great in the air and just as good below his knees.

How is he above the shoulders?
