Hello all. Can any of you North supporters tell me whether Ben Brown ever played a season of first grade cricket in Hobart? On the Cricket Tasmania Premier League website there is a Ben Brown listed as having played a season of senior cricket for New Town in 2008-09. He would have been 16 years old back then.

Doubtful. He’s from Devonport and the only time he was based in Hobart was a year after he was overlooked in one of the drafts and played for Glenorchy before moving up to Werribee.

I believe it’s a boy. :)

In all seriouslyness I hope it is the bushfire avoider and round 1 is the aim.
Strange if that's the case. To avoid the state game means to also avoid the practice match, which isn't greatest of build ups? Unless we just want him to start match practice 2-3 weeks later.

But if that's the case, it's strange that we are ok for 3 older blokes playing in the state match

What if........

..........Ben Brown's calf niggle is actually a calf niggle and he's not exaggerating it just to miss a fundraising match?

I don’t want to go all sliding doors here KC.... however,

If uninformed opinions are removed from BF, I would have nothing to give.

I reckon BBB is the last player on planet earth who would choose (or allow others to choose on his behalf) to feign injury to avoid participating in a Bushfire benefit - if he was selected. He’s obviously, got a calf issue. Hopefully, it’s not serious.

It's a ludicrous idea isn't it.

He is absolutely crucial for us

A huge loss if we cant get him right for Round 1. Even though Shaw conference was a bit misleading, said he trained well during the week. Still, don't want to take a risk!

North Melbourne has started contract talks with Ben Brown for a fresh deal that is likely to make the full-forward the club’s highest paid player and a Kangaroo for life.
Football boss Brady Rawlings and Brown’s manager, Adam Ramanauskas from TLA, confirmed to the Herald Sun that “positive discussions” were underway.

Almost half of North’s list falls out of contract in 2020 and re-signing Brown shapes as the club’s No.1 priority.

“Ben’s out of contract and we’re negotiating at the moment,” Rawlings said.

“Obviously he’s a really important player for us, not just with his output on the ground. We’d like to get something done as soon as possible.

“Not many players leave this footy club and hopefully it stays that way.”

Securing Brown’s signature early shapes as a big win for the Roos.

Brown is expected to command a price tag in the vicinity of $700,000-800,000 per season. While recruit Jared Polec topped the wage list at Arden St last year, the former Port Adelaide wingman crossed on a five-year deal that was heavily front-ended.

Brown, 27, is expected to recommit for another two or three seasons. A three-year deal would see the Tasmanian turn 31 shortly after that contract expires.

Brown has booted 188 goals across the past three seasons, which is 21 more than any other player.

But the running machine has proven remarkably durable since he was drafted out of VFL club Werribee at pick No.47 in 2013.

The 200cm spearhead with the monster set-shot run-up has played 22 AFL games in each of the past five seasons.

Brown has also booted more than 60 goals every year since 2016. He has been unfortunate not to pick up a Coleman Medal or All-Australian guernsey so far.

Brown finished three goals behind Coleman winner Jeremy Cameron (GWS) last year, four goals behind Jack Riewoldt (Richmond) in 2018 and six goals behind Lance Franklin (Sydney) in 2017.

Cameron booted nine majors against wooden-spooner Gold Coast in Round 23 last year to pip the Kangaroo.

But, but , but Kane Cornes keeps telling us that Polec is on insane money & some moron reported last week he was part of the 1 million dollar per year club ... Brown signs a new deal at 700-800k to become our highest paid player . 🤔
