It hurts to see supposed 'loyal supporters' of our club talk down someone who bleeds for the blue and white. Yes, we are in a little bit of turmoil performance-wise, but are you guys seriously blaming Benny? This man kicked ten goals in one game last year FFS! I can't wait for Benny to pass this patch of bad form and silence the haters.
When do school holidays finish for you?

You say that as if we do it on a regular basis.
The last time we as you put it gave away a player who was any good was likely Josh Gibson, who wanted to leave anyway.
No, I meant if we followed your strategy.

We're midtable now, so following your suggestion, we should trade away our best players for draft picks.

We then drop further down (because we've replaced our best players with kids), and then in three or four years time, we get up to midtable again, but we're still not contending, so "hey, let's trade our best player for some draft picks".

Rinse and repeat.

You don't get better by taking away your strengths.

You mean the strategy we have done for years? Not trading out anyone, hitting the draft with a few picks and getting mediocre talent, being mediocre and wondering why players aren't coming on from 3rd and 4th rounds? rinse and repeat?

if someone gives you a deal you take it if someone offered us 2 great picks for Brown you utilize that.

No to any (realistic) trade but I can understand the frustration.

Our whole dynamic stinks at the moment. Brown isn't in sparkling form but he's receiving some of the worst delivery in AFL history.

Yep. Nearly every entry feels like a high floater that overshoots any decent run Brown could get at it. He needs someone to dart it in about 15m in front. We'd kill for a Boomer type right now.

Ironic that you talk about players not coming on from the 3rd or 4th rounds of the draft in a thread about a bloke whose been in the All Australian squad three years in a row and who we got at pick 47.

But this is a pointless argument because we won't convince each other.

FWIW, I don't think our list is that bad. Our problems are consistency, injuries and development. We can beat anyone on our day, but we have too many players who are brilliant one day and bog average the next. Too many players spend too much time injured, or their recoveries are delayed, delayed and delayed again. And we bring in players from other clubs with potential (or to fill a role) and they don't come on.

None of those problems will be fixed by treading out one of the best players in the league, no matter what we get in return.

So rather than have the club think of what we'd get for Ben Brown, they should spend that energy on turning Paul Ahern into the player we know he can be, or getting inside Jamie Macmillan's head so he can be relied upon, or tell Jed Anderson to put it on BBB's chest, not on the chest of the guy trailing behind him. Get Luke McDonald to be the tagger that pantsed Bontempelli every week, not just once or twice a season. All of those will have a better return than trading for draft picks that, by your admission, we'll probably utensil up anyway.

If we follow your strategy we will 'rinse and repeat' what we have done for the past 20 years - finish mid table ... play a mature side....miss the elite picks...finish mid table....top up on mature players.

You dont get better following your strategy ...and that's great if you like finishing mid table.

If you want to push for a GF then you need a new approach - your's has failed miserably.

We have:
2016 - Jy and Souva.
2017 - LDU and Hayden.
2018 - Thomas, Taylor and Scott (all RS noms).

We also have Zurhaar who is limited but within those limits is excellent.

Seven or eight players, about a third of the side, since 2016 show potentially elite characteristics.

Haven't seen enough of the three boys from last year but Mahoney has done a couple of nice things. And we have two first round picks coming up, one possibly in the first four or five picks. All of our draft picks in 2018 have RS noms. How often does that happen? So have a good crop of younger players coming thru.

It's clear we've been chasing elite players with our picks since we sacked Boomer, Spud, Dal and Dish. So far we haven't had to give up any elite players for this potential drafting bonanza. We've given up pick 10 (that year all our draftees have RS noms even without pick 10) two years ago and pick 8 last year so it's really too early to judge last year. But it's hard to say we've given up potential elite picks by giving up those two.

We don't need to give up heart and soul type players for speculative draft picks right now.

If you think that getting inside Jmac head and as you put it telling Jed to kick it to Brown as opposed to turning it over then what are we even talking about, we are worlds apart.

I'm saying get high quality draft picks for Brown, what admission are you talking about? if we got 2 high picks for Brown we should take them.

Who's gonna trade 2 bloody 1st round picks for Ben?

Most likely nobody. It's easy to say that you'd make a trade like that when it won't happen anyway..

Besides if we did that trade we'd have to use one of the picks on hopefully drafting the next Ben Brown, and he's the type of player that doesn't grow on trees.

Fortunately we already have one for the next 5 or so years.

Oh ok, let's only discuss things that will 100% happen on here.

You got anything to support that or just nonsense?

The nonsense is talking about picks 1 and 10 on the table for trade. If they were, 98% of the players in the competition would be in the frame.

Sure, "everyone has a price", what a facile throwaway line. I mean, if it was a valid discussion point, why don't we discuss that in every player's thread?

It's just a crap justification by the Brown bashers, who should be ashamed of themselves.

Camon, if a club said we will give you pick 1 and pick 10 are you guys saying you wouldn't trade him? Everything has a price.

i'm certainly not overly keen on trading him since he is the best key forward we've had since Carey, but he is 28 soon and we don't look close to contesting for a flag at the moment.

^lol where has anyone mentioned pick 1 and 10

2 first rounders could be 12 and 18

I know you're an absolute idiot when it comes to Macmillan and your other unhealthy fixations, but clearly your idiocy extends to your reading and comprehension skills.

Typical, cant back up your claim and change the topic.

Pull your head ...again.

Carey started the discussion - rightfully - about BBB and his strengths and weaknesses.

The title of this thread is what? Yes that's right - negotiations are going on with BBB and he is out of contract at year end.

What other of our 'elite' players are OOC at year end - oh yes - that's right - none of them - that's why they aren't being discussed.

The conversation has recognised BBB's value and it has recognised his potential worth on the market in a trade situation - nothing more nothing less.

Jokers like you go with the 'you are all BBB bashers'.

You are the one that has no reading or comprehension skills although in your case this matches nicely with your lack of football knowledge.

Don't enter conversations you have no idea on - stick with the 'Go North' threads - they are more your style.

And you can stick with the "let's whinge because we are entitled" threads, because that sums up your contributions here.

Yes, we are worlds apart.

Thank God for that.
