Graham sounds like he's a smidge bitter towards the PAFC today.

until the part where Rowey told Dom that he was the 61st captain for the PAFC, and Cornesy chimed in with his usual snipe at our heritage by telling dom that they (meaning Port) have sucked him in as well into believing the heritage... and that he is the 5th Port captain.

He ballsed that up anyway because Dom is the 4th PAFC captain since we joined the AFL

Turned it off at his first history revisionist comment and won't be back for a while. Might try again next Monday night after the family day - maybe he might have something sensible to say. Rowe sheeped along behind.

Yep, according to cornes we just have to accept that we started in 1995 and we adopted the history of the magpies.

Just can't handle it. Probably still has grave danger nightmares.

Yeah, to compete in the AFL the club risked its entire existence and in the case of individual board members - their homes, businesses and livelihoods - in 1990, only for a matter of necessary corporate semantics to one day result in the club being referred to as "brand new", "adopting the Magpies' culture" and "referring to the history of the club (Creed, 1870) is wrong".

Mmmm, that was what we had in mind.

I wonder if Graham Cornes is disppointed one of his boys didn't get the nod. Would be a natural reaction.

More like relieved and this is an overreaction.

This way he gets to be cranky at Port AND support his boys. Win-win.

I can't believe Graham Cornmes still has a chip on his shoulder about Port Adelaide. Can someone get on air and remind the scumbag that his two sons, his own flesh and blood, play for them. I would do it myself but I live in Melbourne.

When I used to live in Adelaide, in or around 1999, some guy rang him up and asked if your son took a mark against the Crows in the grand final and the final siren went with the crows up by 5 points would you want your son to kick the goal. Graham answered yes.

Just roll the prick.

I'm trying to imagine his analysis after a Port loss...so what does he say: "oh Chad was woeful today, Tredrea did his bit but Kane was just lazy". Is this what he says?

Time to tell it as it is.
When G.Cornes first came over from Whyalla to play for the Glengirls, you used to be able to buy any number of things related to SANFL footy : ice-creams in your team colours, chewing gum, all manner of fizzy confectionary etc. etc. I used to collect football cards that came with one of the above products, can't remember which one but I do distinctly remember, one of those football cards was about Graham Cornes.
On the cards was a picture of the featured player with information about them; things like height, colour of hair, eye colour, weight, where born etc. etc.- you get the picture ?
One of the questions was, "Team supported when young" (or words to that effect) and the answer from G.Cornes was " PORT ADELAIDE ".
I am 100% sure of this.
This may go some way towards explaining his hatred of Port Adelaide ie. he has a deep psychological problem stemming from the fact that he believes he is inadequate because of his perception of having been "rejected" by Port.
It probably explains why he is always trying to prove that he is superior to all and sundry and when he feels threatened by something/someone, his immediate response is to ridicule and treat with contempt.

Good theory. But no, he's just a w***er and always has been.Chad reminds me of him in so many ways, both good footy players though.

Altho Northalives' specific recollection that Cornesy was once a Port supporter is accurate.

Is this karma for his mention of "body language"? :D

I was in the car at four pm yesterday so I switched over to 5AA and had a listen.

I was actually somewhat impressed by Stephen Rowe. He sounds like KG on speed but really is a professional broadcaster in the way he set out the agenda for the afternoon broadcast, what topics would be discussed etc. He runs rings around Graham Cornes.

He had another crack at Mike Sheahans dead man walking article and maintained there's nothing to the story, that you never hear any Port players complaining about Choco which you can do at other clubs, encouraged Port supporters to ring in and talk in support of Choco etc.

I think he's adept at getting audience participation and seems to recognise that Port supporters are part of that audience. Will be interesting to see how he performs when the next Port v Crows controversy erupts which is only a matter of time.

I don't plan to listen to the show on a regular basis but will do so when alerted on here that there's something of Port interest coming up.

This is true but he had his soul cleaned when he joined the Bays.

Although one of my brothers who worked with him for a short time back in the late 60s has always said he was a complete arrogant tosser even back then.

Now noddy, we all know that vampires don't have souls (except Angel, but he's the only exception). ;)

Thursday afternoons in the car seem to have become a regular event for me.

Last night they were discussing (again) the Nick Maxwell situation and Rowie mentioned Mark Bickleys elbow charge at Darryl Wakelin.

Dear Cornesy responded by saying "Yeah but he wasn't trying to break Wakelin's jaw".

No Graham, of course he wasn't. He was just rushing over to congratulate Darryl on that great handball he'd done just before.

But Mr Rowe did disagree and said it was a Dog of an act, which suprised me actually, seeing he is Crows through and through.

That incident reminded my of Salisbury on Anderson, little prick he was!

Even though we have had our fair share of behind the play players too.

It does appear their slant on 5AA is Graham is going for the Anit Port strong sentiment and Rowe is playing the ball on all topics. Rowe has been ok actually.

We have to remember alot of this stuff would be fabricated to cause controversy and arguements so people fire up and call in. Which puts me off a little these days, I'm more of a purist in sporting chat forum than arguement kind of guy.

Salisbury on Champion in the 1990 Foundation Cup GF was pretty much the same as well.

Used to love it when Wayne Mahney would take it up to the cowardly sniping little shit.

Yeah, in all seriousness they would sit down at the start of each shift, look at the topics that they have and sa which side do you want to argue?

It is more like a formal debate where you are forced to debate one side than it is a genuine reflection of the announcers opinions.

Legend has it that Greg Phillips went up to Scooter before the start of the 1990 GF and told him that if anything happened to Gav that day, Scott wouldn't be walking off the ground. David Hynes repeated the message just in case it didn't sink in the first time. Gav saw the game out and kicked two super goals, Salisbury walked off the ground a loser. Ah heady days.

Sorry to go OT but has anyone else had trouble listening to SEN online.

Recently I can't seem to connect and any help would be appreciated - very bad footy withdrawal symptoms at the moment.

Magnificent :D

From Bucks' book:

There were some anxious moments early on, mostly caused by my first opponent, Glenelg captain Scott Salisbury. I suspect that Salisbury - a great, tough player and an All-Australian in 1987 - was instructed to intimidate me out of the game or, if possible, knock me out. Watching a replay of that Grand Final afterwards I noticed a few times where Salisbury goes flashing across the screen in what looks like attempts to get rid of me. During the game I hadn't realised how close he came to achieving that goal in the first ten minutes. He tired after that - he was in his last season - and having weathered the storm I grew in stature. p. 77

And a guy like Matt Thomas is apparently the biggest thug in this town these days.
