archie that is all well and good if you could pay it weekly. Right now if i buy a membership i will also have to say these words.

"oh yeah mum, i know i said you could go to new york when you visited me, but you cant because I paid money to go to 14 football games i live 25,000km from, sorry"

when I dont have to sit on level 3 at telstra dome i'll get a membership.
You don't have to sit on level 3 if you are a member. Rock up early to the game & if there are any seats available on level 1 you get it for nothing, just go to ticket box. I have 17 game membership and never pay accept for maybe Essendon away game.:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

I'd love to be a member again but financially it's just not going to happen. I've supported the Cats since I was born, been a member for about 6 years, this year just couldn't afford it. Poor uni student on minimum wage. Good enough?

we all understand that financial hardship is going to make it difficult for some. It's the people who can afford it but have dropped off because we had a bad year. A true supporter would never do that unless they couldn't afford it.

I actually let mine lapse. Live in Boston ATM and am broke as shit flying my mum and my sister out to visit. I will sign up again next year, I promise.

Tell your mum and sister to pay for themselves. You've got more important things to spend money on.

;)

This has been mentioned before. We do the same it it's not a fully ticketed game. Never had to pay yet. Just show your membership and ask for a level 1 seat.

I was a member for six years (2000 through to 2005), I live interstate but took out full membership even though I rarely got the full benefit. My view was that I was making a donation to the long term survival of the club.
Previously (to 2000) on a few occasions I had sent emails to the club berating them for poor on field performances (its a Geelong thing), onetime I got a reply informing me that their records indicated that I wasn't a member and therefore they had no obligation to reply or even give a stuff what i thought. So I joined up so i could "Voice my opinion from time to time). In 2005 whislt being a financial member I saw a newspaper article about security guards man handling a few union activists for handing out Your Rights at Work flyers out the front of skilled stadium on match day. I was extremely disappointed about this attitude from the Cats Board so I wrote to uncle Frankie to see where the club stood in relation to YR@W and was it the boards desicion to get physical with the activists and was it the boards position to support workchoices by discouraging planned union activities outside the gound. I pointed out that Geelong was a predominatly working class area and that alot of the clubs core membership could be adversly (finacially) affected by workchoices and this inturn may impact on the average punters ability to afford luxuries like cats memberships.
Haven't heard a dicky bird from anyone at the cats about this issue since, so I decided not to renew my membership until I do. Got a problem with that then tough bananas

They should offer incentives like if you were a member the previous year than you get 10% off this year membership.

not sure if you'ld make extra money though. 29,000 members would mean they have to convert at least 2,900 of the lapsed members to make it worth their while. that's almost half

pfft..The club would get lots of letters and emails. I wrote a "thesis" after the west coast game last year and didn't hear back, but hey, I built a bridge and got over it.

Like everyone else it's your decision, just don't blame the club when you miss out on finals tickets. Not becoming a member because the club didn't get back to you over a letter you sent imparting your political views is probably one of the more self righteous reasons I've heard though :(

You are a tool mate.

Giving up membership because the president does not have time to reply to every single person who writes a letter of displeasure is ridiculous.

You are also prepared to stop giving the football club money because of your political beliefs. Football should be a non-political occassion where people of all races , sex and political belief can gather to watch a sport they love. Why should these people be hastled by union propaganda outside the venue? Without knowing nothing about the issue except what was written within your post, the club is within its rights to remove those hassling others at the match.

But its ok, you keep on not buying memberships because of these petty reasons. The club is better off without you!

Maybe some of us more financial members could start a fund and buy memberships for the the supporters that cant afford it. They could then pay back the "Fund" on a weekly basis. I would be willing to kick it off !:thumbsu:

I unfortunately am not willing to donate money to annonymous people on an internet forum. For some strange reason I dont think I would ever see it again. The Nigerians would be in here pretty quickly though :)

If it could be administered properly I'd be able to put the funds in for a couple of memberships. People would need to be giving their name and address and the 'fund' would buy the membership and have it sent to that address I'd imagine.

The fund would have to be officially endorsed by the gfc and or it's sponsors.
The only one who would loose out would be the fund because you would have your membership in your hot little hands before paying a cent.( subject to id verification check).Unfortunately you would have to be an Australian citizen.

i love the cats, have been a member for years, love watching them and will go out of my way to.....my weekends are planned around them!!

i live in sydney at the moment (irrelevant really except they're not playing up here!) but after last years insipid performance i made the decision not to sign up until PERMANENT changes to the club had been made....i think it's in the process of happening but it will take a little more than 4 wins to prove / convince me of anything.....

BTW, i have been hit with emails, texts, phonecalls and picture messages from 'Billy Brownless' over the last week.

Thoughts?

Permanent changes...blah blah.
What sort of permanent changes are you talking about??? Seems to me that the club is in a strong position financially. Seems to me the players are very geared towards creating their own culture and not getting ahead of themselves as has happened in previous years. Seems to me the players and coaching staff are communicating well and that the players are implementing the coaching plan. Seems to me that there is a steely resolve about the whole place. Seems to me we are sitting second after 9 rounds.
What possible permanent changes could you be alluding to...show me an excuse and I'll show you a loser.

sweet f**k!!

4 weeks ago - entirely different story.

I'll have to admit, I am one. I haven't got a job at the moment, am totally broke, and am in debt 2 grand. Not feasible this year unfortunately. :(
