Player Watch #6: George Wardlaw - subbed off vs HFC with concussion - fourth of career

I don't post much and usually keep these things to myself but frustration levels are at an all time high.

I'm very close to someone who is very close to George & and the Wardlaw family. He's told his family that he wants to play elsewhere. Has no animosity towards the club but his competitive nature doesn't match where the club has been/is. He doesn't feel like he owes the club anything and isn't really aligned in the same way as others seem to be who are extending.

His aim this year is to play well to attract as much interest as possible.
I mean this would just about do me.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. It is a ****ing tough gig playing midfield as a selfless competitor with the blokes we've got running through there. Being that one bloke doing all the team things while others cruise and get paid very handsomely for it is bound to be nauseating.

I've got no inside insight but it's been my guess he'll go for a while now.

Totally different situation to LDU where other sides would be asking him to improve a lot more.

How can you say that with a straight face knowing we are where we are? Look at our ****ing team, bro. It's broken. Players who want to win aren't going to wait thousands of years for it to turn

We were just as broken when JHF left. We just haven’t gotten better

Reminds me of Tom Scully who figured he'd had enough of playing with half committed turkeys.

Not one player matched his intensity. Which is ****ing bizzare.
Will make multiple goes at it before giving up.

Yet Stephens, Jy, Powell, Caleb, Larkey, Zuurhar, Sheezel all look like they’re moving in slow motion.
Yeah I really don’t see how you can watch a teammate trying that hard and think nah **** it too hard for me

Looking forward to all the knee jerk reactions from people that believe a bloke who genuinely just said: “I’m very close to someone who is very close to George

Has also barely posted in over a year so something tells me we can file this one firmly in the ‘nothing to see here’ basket 😆

Chill.

Don't see what's outlandish about it.

Do you look at George and see a bloke who'd be loyal to a fault on a sinking ship, or a bloke who wants to win? Hint: the answer is embedded in the way he plays

So you have been here five minutes and yet have the skills to examine a post and criticise the poster for exactly the thing that he admits. Viz : I don’t post here that much.

Jury is out on this. Maybe bullshit. Maybe not.

For how long? Doesn't strike me as someone to enjoy playing alongside LDU and Powell.
It is madness to rely on one mid to be the defender of the midfield.

Parker tries. LDU is not exactly great. Powell is pretty crap despite his tackle numbers. Sheezel is really average on the spread. McKercher is allergic to contact. Simpkin seems to pick and choose when to apply pressure.

Xerri - Wardlaw - Phillips - LDU

Xerri - Simpkin - Phillips - LDU

Xerri - Wardlaw - Simpkin - LDU

Xerri - Wardlaw - Sheezel - Phillips

We have to start playing a midfield that is defensively accountable.

I agree with the premise but don't think Phillips has been defensively accountable enough this year.

My primary rotation would be Wardlaw, Parker, Simpkin. You can't even have one who's unaccountable these days.

I don't see how anyone could blame him if he wants out. We've been an absolute shit tip for at least half a decade. These kids risk wasting their careers if they stay with us long term.

Honestly mate, believe whatever you want to believe. Doesn't bother me either way. A bit of discretion as to not completely throw people close to him under the bus.

Just saying what I've heard and believe so expectations can be altered
Posting a rumour on bigfooty and then claiming to be the good guy for using discretion is amusing.

Once again, anyone that is privy to what George wants to do isn’t posting it on bigfooty. End of story.

Don’t know why some of you are hellbent on turning the only positive from today into a negative - Christ.

Guys is the talisman of all talismans.

Is built for finals if we ever give him the opportunity.

His first 5 minutes in 2 months was utterly ridiculous.
Mate, we pretty much exclusively looked like a football team when he was part of the play. More than any player on our team, the fantasy of a North Premiership - shit, finals even - will boil down to his staying fit.

That is the point I was trying to make. LDU’s offensive contested work outweighs the times he is not accountable defensively. I should have included Parker in those rotations. I do, however, think our midfield structure is pus with Phillips in there.

I’ll settle for win another game at this point.
