His tank will be the thing that holds him
Back a bit at AFL level. I’m tipping he will only get spurts through midfield.

Because he’ll play mostly half forward I’d be lowering the disposal expectations significantly.

18 games
25 goals
Avg 12-13 disposals per game.

I'm all for the hype but the comparisons to Carey/Ablett is bit silly.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting he is going to be the next Ablett or Carey, just that there are similarities in playing styles. I don’t get the Carey comparison at all, but I definitely see similarities with Ablett in his early days, when he played more half forward.

Wasn’t Ablett extremely quick and playing on the wing early days?

Remember Ablett actually jumping onMick Martyn’s head….
While he was standing up I mean….

And I think was a 100m runner too
Very very quick off the blocks

Hope Jhf can do that

I don’t think he has the speed and I honestly can’t remember watching clips of Horne taking speckies. I don’t see the comparison at all tbh.

I’m interested in people’s expectations for JHF in 2022.

I’m starting to reign in my expectations for him for the following reasons:

1- I don’t think he’s going to get much midfield time

2: we seem to be holding him back, some of it covid related, some probably just being a first yearer.

So, what are your predictions on the following? (Mine in brackets)

Games (15)

Goals (25)

Ave disposals (15)

Rising star finish (3rd)

25 goals is reigning in your expectations?

Hope you're right. That would be an awesome first year

Hope:
Brownlow
Rising Star
Premiership
Norm Smith

Actual:
Some good games
Kicks his first goal
Top 5 Rising Star (assume he plays most games)
At least one game in the VFL
Enough signs that we have a player on hands (not that I’m in much doubt)

Isn’t that what JHF is perfectly suited to do in the early part of his career with his speed?

Ablett snr played predominantly high half forward in a similar role that I see JHF playing in his first couple of years.?

Yes Horne-Francis is perfectly suited to the high half forward role, I just don’t see the Ablett comparison.

Maybe if he goes bald on top but tries to hang on to the back of his mullet he might look like him a bit…but that’s about all.

Mick played his opponents as well as any fullback could be expected to a few of them still probably averaged 3+ on him.

Was an era spoilt for riches in terms of excellent forwards.
