You need to read Ant555's post.

Actually I don't (although I already did). Whatever Sydney and/or Carlton were in reality going to offer is irrelevant. What matters is what Dodoro has gone on record as saying he would have accepted. He made it clear that two top ten picks were not sufficient to trade Daniher.

"“The media was speculating that nine and five were compelling picks,” Dodoro said.
“We made it clear we weren’t interested in nine and five, we wanted players.
“Their final offer was selection nine and a future first-round pick and that wasn’t good enough.
“We made it clear what we needed.”
“It’s not personal, at the end of the day, the club comes first.”"

Those words should see Dodoro sacked. We got screwed on the Shiel trade but that was bad luck (we courted Shiel thinking we would have a winning hand in negotiations with GWS but they had already dumped a lot of their salary by then so we ended up paying overs). Not Dodoro's fault - walking away might have made it very hard to attract players in the future.

But this one was all our own doing. We achieved absolutely nothing in this process. Forcing players to be held to their contracts does have some long term benefits but it also makes players more reluctant to sign long term deals with you - that's why in these circumstances clubs ask for big overs, get a little overs, and then "reluctantly" take it. We asked for ridiculous overs - apparently got large overs instead - and still rejected it. Utter insanity.

The only possible saving grace for Dodoro could be that he was lying in the above quotes. A possibility I guess. But why?

But Dodoro could've said yes to that trade and the deal between Sydney and Carlton may not have gone through. There's no guarantee that it would've worked out as these things fall over all the time.

For all we know Sydney not having pick 9 in their hand could've had an impact on any deal. It wouldn't be the first time Carlton took an opportunity to * with us, so if Dodoro said yes the deal would then be at their mercy, and maybe that was a consideration. But who knows for sure, these trade managers all talk like used car salesmen so it's hard to know what's real and what's not.

so if Dodoro said yes the deal would then be at their mercy, and maybe that was a consideration.
??? What a bizarre rationalisation. If a club changes their mind as to what they will offer then you just walk away. You aren't at "their mercy".

Dodoro made a horrible mistake. Unlike us he would have had a fair idea of Daniher's recovery and given it wasn't/isn't going particularly well that means Daniher will be worth a pittance at the trade table at the end of this year (and worth a pittance to keep him).

From what I can understand, Dodoro had to agree to the deal with Sydney before Sydney would do the deal with Carlton for pick 9. Is that correct? Ant555 suggested the deal between Sydney and Carlton may not have been so cut and dry. And you're right, maybe Carlton wouldn't play funny buggers at our expense to screw with us, I just wouldn't be surprised if list managers sow discord amongst other teams if they have the opportunity.

I guess we'll find out if Dodoro's made a horrible mistake or not. Even top 10 picks are speculative, whereas a fit Daniher staying at Essendon would be a win in my book.

Dodoro says he'll accept 9 and Swans try to deal for 9. If that falls over, it would put pressure on them to trade 5 with something back. But Dodoro insisted on requesting a player who doesn't exist. Dodoro has made a horrible mistake, add it to the list.

I thought they didn't want to trade 5?

As I said, I guess time will tell...

I love this argument that top 10 picks are speculative - History shows that the higher up you are in the draft, the better chance you have of selecting a quality player - EFC has gone done the trading route in recent years which is fine, but at some stage, you need earlier draft selections, not just for the quality of players, but also for list demographics.

Ah we'll just trade in the demographics, using future picks

Players won’t sign long term contracts because they want the option to walk away from the long term contract? That is fine they don’t sign a long term contract. You don’t get the security of a good long term contract just to be able to walk out on it for another offer

Where is he at?
His specialist was on SEN with Tim and Garry during the week. Without talking about Joe specifically what he said was they get a patient over and do some testing by putting a sensor suite on him and getting him to run and jump etc to measure the bio mechanics and pick up any issues. then they set out a program which he takes back and the clubs fitness staff implement. he has just gone back to do the testing again to see what changes there may be and to see if they are tracking well. There are not witch doctor cures at work here just a start from scratch program to modify how he trains to reduce the effects of sorenessThey have had good results with soccer players in Europe. It is not a cure and he said the players will always have a degree of soreness, it is about managing that to be able to perform at high levels as much as possible.

Personally there is going to be enough spoken in the media each week he does not play so I have said all I will for now about contracts and trades and just hope the lad gets on the field at some stage for his own health.

in a stroke of good fortune, I was just walking past the hangar and a gust of wind blew a piece of paper into my foot. I picked it up and started reading, it was titled:

Template for pre-season player interviews:

-required answers for Daniher questions

Please ensure the following protocols are followed when answering any question on Daniher, the following four lines must be spoken, no more, no less:

"Joe is attacking his rehab very well"
"he is being a positive influence around the change rooms"
"as far as I know there is no timeline on it"
"Hopefully he can get back out there with the boys"
"I'm pretty confident he can get back to his best"

From here you can move onto the coaching handover

"There are no mixed messages, they are both on the same page........."

That's five lines. This ******* club. Can't even get the instructions right.
