Low level running while continuing to work on strength and capacity.

Key forward Joe Daniher is taking good steps forward in his rehabilitation from a niggling groin injury that has restricted him to just 11 games over the last two seasons.

“Joe recently came back from Ireland where he spent a week of intensive training with a groin rehabilitation specialist.

“He’s come back in really good spirits, he’s up and running doing low-level running at the moment.

“He’s working on strength and capacity around his pelvis to stand him in good stead for the rigours of an AFL season.”

I heard last year before joe had the ‘groin’ flare up that he was in some trouble with a couple of strikes. Apparently the story got squashed in the media.
The weird thing is that if that were true it would allow us to make sense of many things. Only the EFC and the AFL would know about Daniher's strikes and you can imagine how keen the AFL would have been for us to trade a last chance Daniher to their lovechild in Sydney.

We couldn't have told Sydney that he was on two strikes obviously, so all we could do is demand a ridiculously high price for him, knowing Sydney would never agree to it.

Dodoro doesn't deserve to be sacked after all!

Of course, this is all probably nonsense, I'm just saying that it makes some jigsaw pieces fit.

There’s always more malicious type rumours when a player is out for long periods

I've been thinking about this but where I think it falls down is I doubt you get the medical people, surgeons etc. playing along as it could impact their reputation and potential future earnings and probably goes against any code of ethics if not something more serious.

Like I said it is probably nonsense - along with what you have said we presumably just could have told Joe that Sydney would never want him if they knew about the strikes.

I think it's just me rehashing the fact that Dodoro's actions here were completely bizarre.

It also lines up with observations BrunoV has made about it being bizarre that when Joe came back he still appeared to have his athleticism and kicking distance, which is so different to others who have come back from OP and can't kick over a jam tin (see Ball, Luke). That's what got me thinking about this in the first place.

I was told from a mate (who is a housemate of a current player) and that was when daniher was playing. I believe it was before the Fremantle game in Melbourne, the next week he was ruled out for the year. Daniher still has some significant groin trouble but a bit of mayo has been put on I believe, ie what happened with buddy. If he comes back round 10-12 this year it’ll almost be exactly 1 year of football he has sat out..

Yep. Because if you get cut open from your navel to your ball sack and have a metal plate tech screwed in to your pelvis, well of course you should be back training and playing within a couple of weeks. It is a 12 month minimum recovery.

Dude, his groin is farked. There's no tin foil hat conspiracy here. He will have to manage it for the rest of his career.

EFC photographers and propaganda mob taking all the right photos recently. Joe looking increasingly happy... not sure if serious. Getting positive vibes though :)

Just getting and keeping him on the ark will go a long way to helping, especially the second half of the season.

In the end the fa compo should be similar to what Syd offered anyway. It's a free hit keeping him

Pretty sure it's confirmed that Sydney offered pick 9 & their 2020 first rounder (imo likely to be a high pick around 5-8).
Assuming Essendon finish in the lower parts of the top 8 the comp pick would be around 11-15.

So the Sydney offer was significantly better than the potential FA compo.

So everyone here would have been so happy and excited for him if we had traded him and he was running around as the man at Sydney preseason? Whilst our skinny draftees developed for a year and any semblance of a window we might have had disappeared out the door.
At least this way he may prove a point of difference at the end of the year if we are able to compete.

Shock horror the club dug their feet in when an historical Essendon name and our generational forward talent dropped a trade request in our lap then went overseas with no backup plan for a replacement. Lets be good fans and rake them over the coals for that.

To be fair, speculation started months before trade period when it was widely reported Danniher met up with Harley.
I'm sure Dodorio did make some back up plans and spoke to some managers of key forwards around the league but likely things didn't pan out in that regard. But there was more than enough time to scope a replacement and would have had pick 9 & Sydney's 2020 first as trade assets.

LOL ... suspension. He's still injured though! We all saw him struggling to move. Unless he was rocking that bag until 4am the night before the game every game, taking more after Van der Harr then his uncles/father then it just doesn't make sense. There are so many obvious conspiracies out there. Rich and wealthy people manipulate the mainstream media, whos presenters are also wealthy people, to push a media narrative that having some people control more of the wealth and have more of a say about our democracy while putting people who are concerned about human rights and sustainability in the same crazy basket as xenophobes and conspiracy nuts.

So, when you have to twist facts moreso to make your conspiracy true then just go with the official story you know your conspiracy story is just one of those fleeting thoughts from your monkey brain that you should just let happen and probably not speak out loud.

"Squashed in the media"... yep sounds completely legit. Our media would never run with a sensational story like that, especially if it might hurt someone's feelings
