Someone pointed out to me that he can have 2 shots from exactly the same part of the ground in a matter of 5 minutes and go with 2 different kicking routines IE Snapping or drop punt.

He did this on the weekend. Alot of it is mental. Just missed with the drop punt so he tried to go for the snap instead of sticking to guns.
If I recall correctly he hit the post with his first shot? Mind could be playing tricks on him.

I've noticed him do that, I think someone just needs to say hey Joey, take the mark, then once you know where the mark is, just walk twenty meters then swing around and kick it, its much better to spray a few this way than spray them with difference little kicks, all the great forwards just used the same technique over and over regardless of the result.

We know he is a lovely field kick which tells us that he needs to treat his kicks like field kicks, I know I've written this before but I think he gets into trouble when he is trying too hard.

Totally disagree.

Having worked in junior coaching and been involved with TAC Cup and recruiting for 16 years you can not undo what they learn from age 12 to 18 as far as mechanics go. His natural leg swing is now set. His muscles will always pull across his body in his kicking action.
The ball drop is a mental process issue as is not working on knowing his natural left to right and allowing for it when he lines himself up for goal.

Have spoken to a lot of people abut this over the years and unless they correct the problem early it id extremely difficult to correct.
It's why he needs to put the left foot away, save it for 55m+. Take all his closer shots with his right which has so far proven reliable.

That's why wouldn't mind him kicking set shots with his opposite foot as he is much more text book with his right foot.

Finally saw the footage of Joey hugging Hibberd, what people in the media seem to be forgetting is that Hibberd was at Essendon so it is possible that Joey knew Hibberd didn't like being hugged so he went for it, Hibberd clearly looked unimpressed.

Why is that clutching at straws, they played together, they would know one another likes and dislikes so if Joey knows Hibberd doesn't like being hugged then why not give him a small hug to ruffle him a little.

I'm really impressed with Joe's work around the ground this year. His work-rate is so high and he is finally getting rewarded.

He is averaging 16.3 disposals and 8 marks per game this season and that is very high by the standards normally associated with key forwards. It is a huge improvement on last season and are the type of stats that you normally only see from the hardest working forwards such as Nick Riewoldt and Buddy.

So much attention has been paid to his goalkicking but I think a lot of us are sleeping on the massive strides he has made in other areas of his game. Keep improving over the course of the season and he suddenly throws himself into All-Australian consideration in the years to come.

Totally agree with this. He's actually made significant strides as a player. All he really needs is a breakout game where he is not only dominating in the air but is actually finishing his good work. It will come. He's already had several games this year where he had enough shots at goal to totally dominate the game but hasn't gotten the second part right.
Other aspects of his game are all continuing to improve.

Yeah it's very frustrating to hear people only ever talk about his goal kicking, he's coming along great and such a positive asset around the ground and is a guy I'd be happy kicking the ball a lot more than many others in the team. Realistically we're still 2 - 3 years away from seeing him even start his peak years, the guy is going to crush for a very long time.

Anyone know where I can see footage of Joes sick goal from the weekend?
Every Essendon goal is on the Essendon website (same as every week) and the replay thread has a link where you can see the entire replay, my advice is to only watch until halfway through the 3rd quarter and then invent your own ending.

Simon Conway said:
'Scary prospect' in the making
“He’s probably one of the hardest working guys along with Orazio Fantasia, Dyson Heppell and Zach Merrett – they’re probably the four guys that work the hardest on their game,” Skipworth told Bomber Radio.

On top of his normal training, he’s probably doing four or five extra goal kicking sessions.

The sessions are focused on different things so it might be 0-30 [metres out] one day, 30-50 one day and he works on his set-shot snaps.

“His vision is to be a really accurate goal kicking forward and he knows how important it is, we know how important it is.

“He cops a lot because he’s a young key forward who has got such a bright future.

“We’ve got full confidence that it will come together and we’ve just got to stay patient.”

Daniher has played 77 games for the Bombers, including one final, for a return of 124 goals.

...

While there may be confusion is some commentary boxes about what kick Daniher will opt for in certain situations, Skipworth said the Dons spearhead has a clear plan in place.

“Basically his routine is anything inside a 45 degree angle is a set shot, outside a 45 degree angle to the boundary line and in close on his right side is a right foot snap, a bit further back is a check-side … then on the left hand side in close is a left foot snap,” he said.

“Last year he copped a bit with his snapping, [but] he did kick 8.2 and they were wide and long shots so to kick 80 per cent is incredible for a guy that just added it to its arsenal last year … we’re happy with the way that’s coming along.”
