I think it was a case of him being worked under the ball. Was out bodied.

Joe played a great game. He will learn from experience how to handle all the buffeting that forwards get, but he is big, he will get stronger, and I love his style. Better kicking high floaters to Joe than Alwyn if you ask me.

I realise his body will most likely not stand up to the rigours of AFL for the rest of the season but our forward line has looked better since his inclusion (I know it is a VERY small sample size) but surely you could play Joe purely out of the goal square for a few games.. his hands look good and his leading excellent. I think he could quickly average 2-3 goals a game and probably about the 10 marks, which would put him in the upper bracket of our 'forward options'.

And Valve is spot on.. much prefer high floaters going towards the Derp than Alwyn's head.. at least his makes a contest and creates crumbing/stoppage options.

I know some will want to keep the lid on.. but sometimes I just think you know when a guy 'has it'.. a bit like when you see a Judd debut or Murphy or even Goddard.. right from almost the beginning they do well.. and then for a tall forward to show this many 'glimpses' in only two games is just downright scary!! And it isn't like the Derp is playing in its team that was going well with it's F50 entries.. our delivery has been, and still is, pretty poor and yet he has shown great hands and instinct to lead to the ball carrier.

I can't remember a more impressive first two games from any young (first season) EFC player in the last 15 years... anyone offer any names?

Does get pushed out of the contest a lot, but it's no coincidence the forward line has looked better since he's come in. Even though he only played one half, it forced the Suns to put Thompson on him, freeing up others.

Freak. Play him until he needs a rest and then play him some more.

Going to be a real superstar.. not this "one good game" type that Ch 7 flogs love.. but a true legend (if he can stay on the park).

To come out in your second game and basically dominate the first half.. just classy. I also don't want to hear the whole 'it was just GC' thing either.. GC are getting better and aren't the easy beats they were in the past. Not saying it was Sydney but the signs were there.

Great great great marking, excellent disposal, looks to make good decisions, can take light ruck duties, reads the play well is already our best pure 'forward leading' player for running patterns and timing of leads. So much upside it is scary.

I have gone early.. but Derp is my boy. Class above and will only get bigger and stronger.
you can't claim a star as "your boy"! You can't just claim the best young talent of his generation. You have to pick a struggler who will come good or a no name.

It's the rules.

Fair call.. but I called him before he was drafted.. I should have said my new fave player.. although I note when you were allowed to jump on Gumby early.. on the basis of his draft pick and first game.. oh and you did the same with another top 10 pick in Myers... so the criteria seems to be subjective with you Lance.

Stating that he will be a Hall of Fame Legend on the basis of his first game in VFL (you can check the thread) and repeating it on the back of two AFL games seems a pretty early call for me.

However to appease your delicate sensibilities.. I will revise it to "I am officially Daniher's #1 fan"

Officially? When did Daniher approve your number 1 fanship? You can't do that. That's illegal too.

lol @ claiming a guy who every one has been waiting on for years.
lol @ claiming any guys, full stop.

Myers, Daniher, Gumby, Hurley, Stanton, Hibberd.. whoever.

Nobody's unique in doing it, every player has a lot of individual supporters.

Shits me to tears reading/hearing stuff like "my man".

It's alright if you don't take it too seriously. I claimed Gregory but I won't harp on it*

*because he's unlikely to make the grade

You guys are like sheep... I have been posting on here for years.. and listen to you ALL jump on bandwagons, players and everything else..

Someone who has been derided for NEVER having a 'favourite' then makes a casual comment and suddenly its stacks on.

Typically BigFooty group mentality and stupidity that often destroys the posting experience for anyone that doesn't want to go along with your 'in crowd' antics. Grow up.

I presume we will hear no more about Stanton from BTG or Melksham from eth-dog or Gumby/Myers from Lance???? So STFU and get a grip. Everybody has favourite players.. and everybody has a struggler or fringe player that they secretly (or not so secretly) want to do well.

And I'm sorry Kong for having a favourite player or expressing an ambit, tongue in cheek claim of #1 fan.. ffs.

It's not just you, don't take it personally.

It's just a bug bear of mine when people feel the need to "claim" a player when he "belongs" to us all.

Everyone has their favourites, I get that, I just feel some people go overboard with it, which either includes "claiming" a player or overcompensating and defending them unneccessarily (like I think Ben does with Stanton, to be fair).

It's not a huge deal, it's just my view on it.

It's OK when someone 'claims' a fringe player and backs them to come good, but 'claiming' Daniher? That's taking the soft way out.

Seriously sick of the culture of jumping all other certain posters and others can say whatever they like.

As you know, I have maintained a second account for a long time, this account exhibits the same language patterns and views and yet very rarely receives anywhere NEAR the level of criticism that my main 'rines' log in does. I go to my second account when things go bad and then come back when those posters move on to their next 'whipping poster'.

I think you'll find the 'certain posters' that get jumped on are in that situation for a very good reason. They make bad posts and while none that I have seen have approached the shitiness of DoP and HTB it's good that this board wont tolerate bad posters.

Is your alt account sneakyjetta or bomberswam? Maybe you should switch to your other account if 'rines' cops too much flak.

I feel sorry for you and for those in your life if aren't aware of what I am talking about. Perhaps you are lucky enough to have always been on the 'inside' of group culture and therefore can't understand or empathise with others.

I have plenty of empathy for others and I don't consider myself to be frequently on the 'inside' of groups (although I'll admit I'm not the best person to judge this).

However shit posting is shit posting, and no one should expect a medal for contributing if they are only responsible for shit contributions. Just because someone has an opinion doesn't mean it is valid and if it has holes in it people should shoot it down; otherwise this board risks turning into a delusional black and red version of the richmond/north boards with idiots fantasizing about winning 100000 flags on the back of one mediocre performance. People have done and will continue to do this to posts I make. But I understand that nothing I post is 100% perfect and criticism will come at some stage or another so at the end of the day I give no f*cks and I wont ever be seen making posts like the one I'm replying to.
