Is his a lock for the WCE game? I think we will play him but I feel that we need Bellchambers to come back into the side. In Perth, we should go in with as much runners as possible.
Huge quandry for the MRP

i think will depend alot on the weather and whether Hurley is fit to play or not

If Hurley isnt right to play then all 3 will play one permanent as a key forward (JoeyD) and the other 2 go H2H with NicNat and Cox

Also Wouldnt surprise me if JoeD or TBC is subbed off early in the 3rd if all 3 are played.

I can see Glass getting a hold of JoeD or even Emac

I also think that **if** it is not his natural body shape then adding too much weight could cause injury or really affect what appears to be his natural playing style.

I would be interested to see what Fletcher's starting weight was way back when and see what he currently plays at. I would be very surprised if it has altered by more than 10-12kg.

I also feel that is why JD might have an easier time than say, Tomahawk did, coming into AFL.. because he doesn't need 5-6 years of gym work to build him into a bullocking CHF. Tomahawk had to basically transform his 'big frame' 'baby fat' into muscle and bulk and build a tank to match..

You'd think that Hird would be a great one for JD to talk to about it.. I still think that year (can't recall atm) when Hird really hit the gym and looked to add a heap of bulk and then subsequently broke down was a turning point for him.

around 1.5kg-3kg a year for the next 2-4 years seems about right to me KA.

I'd really love to know how Daniher could be judged to be soft (and even moreso, written off as doomed to stay that way) off the back of two games.
It's simple Douche Philosophy. 99% of people were impressed with a second gamer taking 8 marks, 5 contested and kicking 3 goals so the 1% douche minority have to dislike it and think of ridiculous reasons to say why.

Maybe he means Daniher looked weak?

Which he did/does. He's going to get ragdolled by most defenders if we're sitting it over his head (which we will, just ask Hurley and Davey), but that's to be expected.

Certainly didn't look soft.

In any case, I think it's a much more interesting thing to continue the trend of the discussion previously; that is, where people see his physique ending up.

Does anyone know what his current weight is? His profile on my AFL phone app is listed as 89kg, but he'd a little bit more than that by now, wouldn't he?

Given his athletic abilities, I don't think I'd want him pushing up much above 100kg.

EFC website has him at 94kg...

im hoping for some slow bulk to be added gradually so he keeps his agility. coupled with more experience using his body against bigger blokes.

mainly so we can keep enjoy him taking it at its lowest point

We should be looking at halfway between Nick Riewoldt and Lance Franklin, IMO.

Both are broad, reasonably lean guys, at 193cm & 96kg and 196cm & 102kg respectively.

Joe reminds me a lot more of Buddy in his shape and style of play, although Buddy's freak genetics probably allow him to be 100kg+ and still move like a midfielder.

You've also got to keep in mind that because Joe's 202cm he's going have a few kilos head start, so I'd like him to be around 100kg at his peak.

Yep it seems 98-100 will be his ideal playing weight.

Essendon website is probably a fair indication of what he currently is or as close as we will get without watching over his shoulder on the scales so 94kg. Hes still carrying a few kilos of puppy fat that he no doubt needs to turn and will turn into muscle or lean mass.

Hes gonna be a more athletic type forward than a power Cloke/Hawkins forward. However he will still be ever so dominant in one on ones just due to his height however the growing trend is to have almost 200cm~ key backs now (Roughead WBD, Carlisle) probably are showing the way in this area. As long as he can hold his ground against a Glass type height defender when hes at his peak 98-100kg mark then he should beat them purely with height (I know glass wont be around).

I expect him to get towelled up by Glass this week or even Emac.

don't really understand this concept of getting him to x weight.

Natural progression of him growing and filling out will see him stack on a couple, I reckon the focus has just got to be getting his core as strong and stable as possible. Even at his current weight, if he had really good core stability he'd be much more of a force in the marking contest, because at the moment experienced defenders will just out body him one on one, even though joe will more likely be more mobile on the deck

I would be keen to see how he did against Glass. Would be an almighty challenge, a good taste of what to expect.

Would be monstered you would think.

I was at the ground Saturday, did joe play much at all in the second half? I could barely see him. Was worried at times if he was injured. If he can't run out full games I'd be worried about him at subiaco especially if we go tall. Will need the rotations.

Sub off just after half time

In the game he tore up May, then Lynch got injured. May went forward and JoeD got a different opponent which handled him much better, unsure who that was?

Comparison to young Buddy is a great call - broad, square shoulders, strong in the core and while skinny now, he has a big frame that will fill out in a few years. Even if he never touches a weight I reckon he'll be a very powerful unit in 3-4 years.
