Ever noticed how he's always having it kicked 1.5 metres above his head?
The old "Chicken or the egg" scenario - are we kicking it over his head, or is he running under the ball? I think any logical person would have foot in both camps and say it's a bit of both, but I lean towards Hurley running under the ball as the answer when I saw him run under a pass from Goddard early in the year. His leads are good, but he more or less just keeps sprinting rather than eventually jumping at the ball.

He might be a type where we have to float the ball out in front of him and let him run onto it, rather than spear balls at him.

Now you say this, I can't think of a time when Hurley has really jumped and extended the hands.

I.e a pass that goes 2m over Hurley's head I think Joe, Gumby or Ryder would snaffle with a bit of a leap and outstretched dukes.

Watch the hawthorn game and the Carlton game, numerous examples of it.

I've said it before, I reckon he just leads too hard too early, so if it is a bad kick, which it normally is he literally can't stop himself from running underneath it

Interesting stats when Daniher and Crameri played together at VFL and AFL

Daniher - Crameri 2 games together at VFL level, Daniher still had the best defender
Kicks: 22 - 12
H/Balls: 7 - 17
Poss: 29 - 29
Marks: 16 - 12
Con Marks: 8 - 3
Goals: 2 - 1
Behinds: 3 - 2

Daniher - Crameri 4 games together at AFL level, Daniher still had the best defender
Kicks: 34 - 34
H/Balls: 24 - 29
Poss: 58 - 63
Marks: 25 - 19
Con Marks: 6 - 3
Goals: 4 - 6
Behinds: 9 - 3

I don't know what to make of this but bodes very well for Daniher. Having more contested marks, Marks, Kicks and shots despite having a better defender on him.

True, but I suppose it is a bit surprising that he has statistically matched/exceeded Crameri despite age/experience/match-up.
One of the major frustrations for me was that Gumby matched or exceeded Crameri - but they just wouldn't play him OR played him in the wet.

And I do not consider Gumbleton as the same sort of talent of Daniher.

Two years from now a comparison between Daniher and Crameri will be an obscene, laughable comparison.

If the dogs play him in that high HFF position like they should, then a comparison should be relatively pointless. I can see Crameri averaging 10/12 marks a game, getting heaps of forward entries and kicking a couple of goals himself each week running back with the flight. Would love to have him doing that for us :(
On the plus side, i bet he continues to only do it for the first half of the season ;)

Agree on Gumbleton. I would have preferred the hard decision of not selecting Fletcher, and moving Hurley down back. (Assuming that Carlisle and Hooker were untouchable this year.) Then we could have had Gumby, Cram and JD plus ruckman and smalls.

Would've liked to have seen Gumby for a run of 4-5 matches. In hindsight, Crameri was apparently gone at the start of the year, so we could've seen a season of Gumby. Dammit.

Deserves to be quoted.

isn't that the idea though? it never did Jason Dunstall any harm. the idea is to put some yards on your opponent. its s*** kicking, pure and simple.

Hoping this is breakout year for Daniher. I agree he is potentially (that dangerous word in football) a far greater talent than both Gumbleton & Crameri.

Was a couple of things during the year that really got the ears up; can't remember the game but he broke into a fair sprint and put a serious gap on his opponent, and then grabbed the ball with one hand (a ball he had no right to mark).

That and some of the Herpiest contested marks you'll see.....

****ing magic on our hands here.

Lets hope he has better knees than Uncle Neil.
