Chris Scott was on The Couch tonight, talking about his attitude towards goal kicking practice. Scott said it's all about repetition. He polls rank on the sport science and physios at his club to make sure his players have plenty of set shots. As a result, Ben Brown has hundreds of set shots a week.

This is the only was Daniher will fix his goal kicking!

For **** sake, if Joe was having hundreds of set shots every week over the past couple of years, all this sh** would be over!
Chris Scott coaches Geelong not North... More to the point, if Joe has issues with his technique, which he does, what good will repeating a flawed action do?

Surly the coaches can help him with that. Even if not, Franklin's kicking action was "flawed" as well but he's made it work.

I guarantee you, if he was having hundreds of set shots every week he wouldn't be kicking a banana from dead in front!

Anyone given this new StatsPro thing a go yet?

Decided to try out the comparison thing between Daniher and Brown for the lols...:

Brown is about a year older, but was drafted a year later (as a 21 year old), and debuted a year after that.
Brown has played sixteen less games (so they've played about the same number of games per year).
They're the same height, but Brown is 6kg heavier.

Brown has elite accuracy in front of goal (61%). Joe's is below average (49%).
Joe's marking is above average, contested marking is elite. Brown's are average and above average respectively.

Brown's hit-out win percentage is average, Joe's below average.
Joe's clearances (centre, stoppage and total) are above average, Brown's are below average, average and average respectively.

Joe has an above average number of possessions (both contested and uncontested). Brown's are average.
Joe's disposals, kicks, inside 50s, bounces and frees for are all above average, while Brown's are average or below average.

So I guess altogether Brown is elite in front of goal and makes the most of his opportunities, and is a better as a back-up ruck taking the hit-out.

Joe is better around the ground insofar as clearances and inside 50s particularly, and a serviceable kick at goal. He brings up his goal stat through frequent opportunities which result of elite contested marking.

I think I still prefer Joe. :p He might not kick goals directly but he gets the ball to someone else who will kick it when he's not kicking them himself.

The one thing I got from that is Daniher is very close to 100 games, that’s come up quicker than I expected

He and Bellchambers both sitting on 98 atm. Even though Bellchambers is a few years older.

Couple more games and any third (?) generation Danihers will be dibs at Essendon too :p
I should say they'll be at 98 *after* the ANZAC game. My spreadsheet thing counts any game that's had the selections entered, even if we haven't actually played it yet.

Non that play Essendon
Dermie has either been reading BF or has seen what we have been saying, at HT he basically said he has never seen a key forward run less and that Joey doesn't lead to the ball and they showed an example where he was basically waiting for the ball over the back instead of charging forward.

To me Joey seems more interested in taking the special mark, and appears to have lost distance with his kicking, at least twice today he had the ball about 60 out yet never looked like kicking goals.

This reminds me of Smith just telling Cummins to bowl bouncers at the poms. Generational talents, absolute thoroughbreds not getting the chance to do what they do best because of things that aren't really within their control.

I think I counted 8 inside 50 entries all day

Mate, he had 20+ disposals. He uses even half of them and we're not having this conversation.

Yes, our midfield got worked over, but Daniher had some looks. He just played like azz.

Have been saying this for a long time now.

He did present to the ball carrier in the second half and created some opportunities - unfortunately his ball use was ordinary, to be generous.

I never said he's in any sort of good nick, because he's certainly not, but he had 22, 10 marks a goal and 2 goal assists because he's a complete freak of nature and can impact the game in a myriad of different ways.

I've never been nearly as gifted at anything as Joe is at footy but I can certainly imagine the frustration he goes through, he firmly believes he can single handedly destroy every game he plays in, but he's getting an absolute bath from his mates and the umpires, not hard to see why he's playing frustrated.
