He's not going to be dropped and nor should he be. Deal with it.
I understand that he won't, but I want to hear the rationale behind why he shouldn't be dropped.

It really doesn't look like he is taking it seriously. He's only kicked 7 goals for the season. He's probably kicked it more out on the full. His field kicking is nowhere near the standard of last year. I'd rather he pass it off when he's kicking for goal most of them time. It's getting that bad.

It's just very disappointing

Yep, let's continue going through the motions like we always do, finishing 10th-16th (maybe once in a while go crazy and finish 7th).

We need to set standards for the entire group. If your work rate is off you don't deserve a spot in the team.

Mate, he played every minute of the match. I can't stand watching him labour around the footy when it's on the ground, but he was cooked.

I'd make him watch the match with his teammates and coaches and have him try to justify his total lack of effort to the group...
He is playing for himself no question, playing for frees, non existent forward pressure one of the reasons it comes out so easily and blazing from anywhere and everywhere.
I don't like players paying out on each other in front of everyone but I could understand Goddard's frustration at lack of effort and intensity.

His attitude has been off for the entire season, not just today.

Dropping him for one game will send a message to the whole group and give him a chance to reset.

If he can't get himself right there's just no point..

He took a mark late in the second qtr had a team mate beside ran forward. Should’ve handballed. Instead went back slowly ordinary kick

Late in the third takes a mark. Instead of wheeling and going quickly. Went back took his time nothing kick.

Just didn’t seem to have his mind there

A key forward has 22 disposals, but his work rate is off? Christ...

Daniher can be better but I thought he really lifted his work rate as the game went on, non of his 22 disposals where ‘cheap’ so obviously worked hard to atleast get into the game. The one thing I think he needs to do is settle his disposal, he likes to play on and kick long at all costs which is good for certain situations but not every time.

Don't want to double-post, but yep, I reckon it is. If we think our midfielders lack defensive pressure then Joey is something else. Gives a token chase if we're lucky.
If a key forward is getting 20+ possessions there's nothing wrong with their work rate.

Gave a good chase and defensive pressure at one point, unfortunately that was late in the fourth quarter.

He does appear to be covering more ground each week, but still a long way off what his best has shown him capable of in terms of impact on the game.

Needs to watch more of Franklin to see how hard he works defensively to tackle and block instead of just kicking goals.

He and the club should call the umpire department and find out what he's doing wrong to give so many free kicks but not receive almost identical ones back. He plays up the cntact at times, but does this mean he shouldn't have the same rules as his defenders?

When he plays deep he seems to lose the plot a bit. Leads far less and is much more prone to calling for precision 70m kicks from a standing start.

For whatever reason, getting him into more of a centre half-forward/ruck role just seems to flick a switch and make him try and create his own play more.

Problem is there is a twilight zone between about 60m and 80m out where he loses the plot.

Anywhere from the goal to 60...he will mark and shoot. But in that twilight zone where he can't quite reach he loses his mind, plays on, gets stuck , then either shanks it oob or kicks to no one..

By my count he has kicked it out on the full 5 times for the season.

Great return for effort...

Just had a look at his stats for the first 5 games this year compared with his last 5 home and away last year. He's pretty even with disposals and marks, it just the average goals where he is well down;-

Joe first 5 of 2018 - ave disposals - 15, marks - 6, goals - 1.4
Joe last 5 2017 - ave disposals - 13.8, marks - 5.6, goals - 3

Feel like maybe the pressure of being known as one of the games best forwards getting to him, certainly looks like he could do with a break as right now he is all at sea

What to do with big JD, he caught the Essendon bug late last year and thought he was way better than he actually was which got compounded by being AA. Then he had started this year with a string of poor performances that has rolled on and now his confidence is completely shot to the point that his goal kicking has now hit nuclear explosion level and the man on the mark fears for his life as does the old duck eating a pie in row Z on the wing.

Do we drop him? would probably give him a kick in the guts in regards to the Essendon bug but would it fix his goal kicking? probably not.
Do we persist with him in the roll he has? Hell no, has to be playing on the minds of the guys up the field watching him spray everything every which way.
Do we change his roll? Probably the best course of action, move him away from goal to a full time wing roll (Richo-esq). Maybe he can build his confidence over time and move back forward at some point.

Firstly, he’s a A-grader. He’s a very, very good player. He’s a reigning All Australian forward five games into his next season.

Yes he’s not playing like it at this very minute, but you don’t drop your absolute stars after a few games in a form slump, because they’re good enough to play themselves back into form at senior level, and can do it very quickly.

Secondly, as a gun forward he continues to provide headaches for the opposition. I guarantee you their best defender will continue to go to him every week. If we drop him and bring in - I don’t even know who - then what? That defender goes to Stewart and affects his output?

Thirdly, he’s a forward. He’s not in form but AFL footy is won and lost so comprehensively in the middle. Defenders and forwards have a very tough time when you’re getting beaten in there.... it’d be hard for any forward to look good for us in a game like yesterday. That makes him look worse than he’s actually going.

He’s not getting dropped, it’s a stupid suggestion.

Seems to have lost all agility and ping in the body

Something's up.
He pulled the jumper on.
On Anzac Day.
We expect should expect no less than 110 percent all day. I didn't see that.

Needs a spell up the farm cructching sheep and stoking hay then come back and see if he wants to play football in a hard at it Daniher way.

His opponents just easily bump him off his line. All day. Needs to throw an elbow every time they come near him. Needs to play in front and attack the ball, every contest. Yes, you get smacked in the back of the head and get your arms chopped and your back jumped in to, but that's tough honest footy. Do this and he will start to dominate.

If he is fit, and We can presume he is because he played, then let's rest Bellchambers against Melbourne and play Joey first ruck and Smack forward, and put it on Joey to lift. Also give him the freedom to find his own ball and just play footy.

Cant drop Belly he played well yesterday. Joe needs dropped and send a message to the whole group with it and I would bring in Langford as a pure forward and go smaller in the forward line.
