Player Watch #6 Logan McDonald

I just see him as a Logan McDonald type, good player. He can just be good he doesn’t have to fit a mould.

Maybe he should miss the whole season and go for the full Sam Reid effect

Who's talking about a mould , he is himself , it's the type of player he was becoming with hard running up and back

Its actually to early to see what kind of forward he may become IF he becomes a forward at all lol.

He was tracking perfectly fine to the end of last year to be a decent competent, good forward. Not saying superstar but he showed great glimpses. The prelim he looked great until he got hurt.

With all of our tall forwards sometimes we overlook how hard it is to be on the end of the shit delivery and the fact that our gameplan seems to involve zero forward movement and leading

Could we see Logan back this year after all? Now listed as 1-2 weeks (was 5-7 last week)
He’s been in the training gallery photos for a couple of weeks now, so seems he’s been back on the track for a while now. Would be good for him if he can at least play a couple of VFL games this year.

2022 - Logan doesn’t play the last game of the year but should have

2024 - Logan plays the last game of the year but shouldn’t have

2025 - Logan could play in the last game of the year which could also be his first game of this year. Should he or shouldn’t he ?

More random musings from the trivial mind of JHWF.

Put him on ice for next year I reckon. We could have had a draft pick because of his injury in the mid-season draft which still baffles me

I've missed you JHWF!

If he gets through training on Saturday, he might be a chance to play Essendon in the VFL next week
His only hope of playing AFL this year is getting to play VFL against Essendon and Geelong and then playing in the seniors in Rd 24 against the Eagles.

They will probably also not play him off of just 2 VFL games given the year he has had

Big if of course but bepends how he goes in those games. If he moves well has scoreboard impact I could see him playing in Rd 24. Who knows? Then by then we might get the week off, before a do or die rematch of tonights game against the giants

Due to our lack of intercept marking defenders, for the first time I am seriously contemplating Logan playing in the Paddy McCartin role of 2022.

We haven’t replaced this role & as much as I love the Lizard, this is not his strength.

Watching a Harris Andrew’s, Sam Taylor, Darcy Moore we are seriously lacking this type of defender.

On top of Logan’s marking, he possesses a great kick and connectivity with team mates.

I still have high hopes as a forward but potentially this may be a better alternative and will add to our defence which currently lacks the release of pressure, relying on either hack kicks and usually a stoppage or running it out of defence.

One to ponder for 26.

Can we just leave him as a forward please.

If he plays every game next year and kicks 35 goals, then we can look at it.

We certainly can!! Just looking at how we can improve and he has the best attributes on our list to play that role.

Granted key forwards are in probably harder to come by and certainly keen to see him start off there.

Paddy kept Cunningham out that year, he was huge for us. Probably one we havent reflected on as much in terms of genuine impact for the team. I feel the coaches will continue to develop a swingman (sorry for the yank wank term bedders) utility string to McDonalds bow but I'm hoping he does start next year forward. Think his running and athleticism will help our link up play up the ground alot more given its been one of our main issues this year.

Agreed, can certainly be that outlet kick as he roams up and down the field as the link up forward.

Keen to see how he goes next year, as it will be another pre-season into his body and he really should be starting to mature around 23/24.

Paddy had a great year in 22, such a shame about his early retirement due to the concussions. Read the play exceptionally well.

That type of player is seriously hard to find, but they are worth their weight in gold.

Most likely no on both counts. Anyone who wants McDonald to be a monster forward is going to be perpetually disappointed.

Chest span, bone density and biceps guarantee he will never become that monster forward.

You can build chest and biceps in the gym with a proper program, it just takes time and patience.

Logan has also always had strong thighs and hips, so I don't believe his bone density will be too low either.

Looking at the pictures of him at training, it actually appears as if he has put on a bit of size in his break, so I have some hope.
