Past #6: Taylor Garner - delisted end '21 - 49 NM games/37 NM goals - go well Garns

Exactly. It's the sum of all the parts. The incident isn't that big of a deal but if you add in the variables that's why there is the disappointment and why it is being discussed. Would people care if it was Ben10 or Higgins? Not likely. But as you've said - "last blokes on the list who should be"
That was my broader issue with all this, if the club felt that the incident did not merit a response, either publicly (which would be undesirable, but not super damaging, lets be honest for a moment. i.e. Daw/Dumont incidents were not harmful to us in the short or long term outside a bit of social media trolling. Plus, if public action were taken, then the club would want to be seen to clamping down on it. The fact we are talking about on here shows that is all public knowledge) or through a training punishment via the VFL squad (or something like that), then it is not worth fretting a great deal over. Furthermore, the effects of the 'photos/vid' were to be exaggerated by some because lets face it, Luke has made himself a very easy and slow moving target and Garner of virtual of being perpetually injured all the time having no credits in the bank.

The issue for these 2, plus other players obviously, is that we have just brought in 4 senior players who are ready to go. Add to that, there are 6-7 kids who are going to be pushing hard. An injury or an incident growing out of nothing is the last thing they need. Both of these blokes could get left behind real quick.

Just want to reiterate that Luke and Taylor haven't shot Bambi here.
There is no moral outrage nor severe defamatory issue is.

We have one player taken father son as a high pick who to date has had an unfulfilled and somewhat disappointing career. A player who loves the club but has stagnated in relation to his peers. A player who has been seen in social circles of Melbourne, highly intoxicated which for a professional athlete is frowned upon. And a player who has priors. Several.
To the point team rules were broken and subsequently resulted in a form drop. Bottoming out at the point where said player promised a summer of hard work and a genuine will to get fit.
The last place you want to see McDonald on a Saturday night is being escorted out of a venue due to a confrontation with the general public based on his intoxication. Its December. Pre season has been up and running for weeks. He had September, October and half of November to go to Bali, go to the races and get blind beyond recognition. He is allowed to.
But come day 1 of preseason we the members and the club that employs expect you to present yourself in a condition worthy of the contract youve signed. That 3 years we gave him raised quite a few eyebrows and this is why. Ideally two summers ago we had place much more weight and importance on McDonald and his standing within the club. Today he isnt a vital cog in our side and thats sad to see. For him on the whole part.

Hit the nail on the head. Just disappointing more than anything, two blokes that have shown glimpses but don't seem to care enough to put in what is required to get the best out of themselves. It's good and well that Lmac ran a good 2km but can't agree more that that time for pissing up is over. Used to be two of my favorites but plenty of blokes who put in everything have certainly overtaken them in my (very important and highly respected) books.

I can think of a lot of other places I don't want to see McDonald on a Saturday night.

In what condition did McDonald present on Monday?

Probably just highlights where the players are at if anything. No noise = people and the "media" don't care enough about them to generate faux outrage. Clubs will always handle it internally unless their hand is forced. If everything AFL players did made it to mainstream the AFL website and bigfooty would shut down. As I said earlier it wouldn't have even been dragged on as long as it has on here if people could factor in all the variables.

Anyway, onwards and upwards until I bring it up in every autopsy thread when LMac has had a bad game.

Needs to ditch the #6 jumper.

Doesn't suit him and he's probably going to break the great tradition of long tenure players to wear it.

Walker can take his pick of a new number and Garner can take back #27 as his own.

The Feng Shui is all off otherwise.
Nah, 27 for Crock Junior!

Not a whole lot. It's a bit of a mountain/molehill scenario.

Having said that, I'm thinking that for multiple reasons, these 2 peanuts are the last blokes on the list who should be getting involved in anything no matter how trivial.

If it is trivial then it hardly matters does it?

The writing is on the wall.

But it can be hard to read after a long day on the piss.

Why are AFL footballers still drinking alcohol?

They have access to (and enough money for) much better stuff these days don't they?

It’s probably the annual get Lukey on the piss, make him do something stupid so he swears off grog time of year.

I think garner drew the short straw.
S..t does this mean the new draftees piss up is not on?

No surprises that you can't put two and two together.

Trying to compare elite athletes to joe smith that had a long day in the office and wants a cold one after work...It highlights how little you know and how out of touch you are.

They are well within their rights to go out and have a few drinks. That's not the issue here. The issue is getting kicked out of a club and getting in an altercation. Most legit workplaces (outside of working at a fast food chain or retail) would be upset upon hearing that you had a few and got kicked out of a club. It doesn't paint a pretty picture of your maturity or work ethic.

If this was lindsay thomas you'd be marching down to Arden Street asking for his resignation. At least I have consistency in my view point.
Must agree, shows the character of the person and the lack of discipline, most importantly.

How intoxicated were they? What I mean by that is whether it was assumed they were intoxicated because they were drinking and got into an altercation or is their proof they were smashed?

Look Garner is lucky he is still on the list.McDonald needs to pull his head In and show that he cares cos if these guys don’t well then Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. There is guys in the North VFL Team that would give there left but to be in there position.
I want success so you have to strive for that.

in my opinion garner could go out on the raz every weekend if he could stay on the park, sad to say i think his days are numbered given his hammies
regardless of this incident.

If this 'story' is uncontained they will be treated harshly. Harsher than those gone before. Silly time to do anything when the club are asking for money from the government based on the merits of the club's place in the community.

Because having booze in your system when ASADA rock up doesn't get you a two or four year ban.
