I thought the player who stood up most last night was Rowbottom. His endeavour and pressure once he went into the middle was what we need from him. I hope he’s burning from losing midfield time and has a massive offseason to win his spot back. If he can be our Dunkley type again by winning more ball and being more influential at ground level, we’ll be looking a lot better as a side.
He was way better after Gus was subbed.

The whole side was tbh.
Allowed Bice to play back and Lizard roamed on wing/forward.
Then Rowy in the guts and took the bit by the horn. or the Bull by the teeth. Or something.

The game was a reflection of our season. An inconsistent performance showing our worst & best qualities, just like our season. Bad is very bad & good is very good.

I want to commend Corey Warner. This was the best game he has played in the Red & White
I agree. I know he copped flak for burning Wilbur with his kick from 50 but I think it was actually good he backed himself. He's a beautiful kick on the run. Campbell needs to do a bit more of this as well.

I do wonder what we’ve done to Campbell’s kicking, though. Used to be a beautiful long shot at goal. Now,he doesn’t seem confident to go for it.
Yeah absolutely agree! It's a weapon and should be used more.

At the same time, last night was the first time I'd thought whether he's more comfortable being a facilitator to our bigger names and whether that's his game-to-game role. He gave off a few handballs close to goal in the second half to the likes of Papley and Warner that led to scores rather than having a shot himself. He doesn't seem to have much ego about him, so maybe he needs the coaches/leadership group to instill some confidence into him and simply say "whenever you're within 55m of goal, just go for it."

Campbell needs some figjam in his game. He's got the talent, just needs to back himself... every single time there isn't a good handball option within 3 or 4 metres he should kick. Probably better he doesn't even look for the handball option...

Season in a game that one. Played to the lowest common denominator and then surprise, surprise, realised we he had a missing gear available to us.

Our good is good, we just need to engage from the first whistle.

Big pre season incoming

Corey shoved my critictism of him down my throat. Best game I have seen him play so far. Buller I am sold on as a very serviceable forward who could push out McLean. Campbell did have a decent game and freeing up Blakey makes us such more unpredictable. Grundy should not only be AA but Skilton medalist as well even when we have been getting smacked he's always stood up.
Papley and Gulden looked a lot better but after finals were out of the question I would prefer that they would be rested for the season if they are carrying injuries.
Solid performance in the second half once we dominated posession but the Weagles really did show why they only won one game this year.
Anyway we get an extended break this year so hopefully everyone gets a full pre season in and we get a better run with injuries next year.

I know injury forced our hand to change things up but playing Warner more forward this year has really hurt us. At the game last time he was spending large chunks playing out of the square , even 4”9 Errol was playing at ff. That’s not the answer.

It was great to see lizard playing there late, but that move should have come come 3 months ago .

Why on earth dean thought playing Warner essentially as a key forward when he has lizard at his disposal is beyond me.

I know it was the last few minutes of the game in a dead rubber , but when heeney Errol and Chad were in the cba in the fourth it was a pure masterclass.

Those 3 just have to be the mids moving forward

If Gulden can build his strength to win the hard balls, that does sound attractive. With Grundy in the ruck, Blakey on one wing and JMac on the other, that’s an extremely dynamic midfield group.

They all just need to bring the same passion for defence and tackling as attack

Thought he was excellent and shows why the numbers don't tell the full story.

4 quarters of absolute desperation.

Also while acknowledging that WC just completely stopped, how beautiful were those centre clearances in the last 6 or 7 minutes?

Grundy getting first use, Heeney doing the tough stuff, Chad bursting through and hitting targets... Brilliant to watch.

I love Chad , but i reckon he's been off the ball the last couple , those dinky little kicks are shithouse

He's either very good or very bad in the same game, a bit like our team. He needs to lift his poor quarters into average quarters. He's still young, hopefully this off-season he can improve on his kicking or utilise a different option.
