Disappointed with last night. I had such high hopes going into the game and was let down.

I haven't seen the game yet only heard it on the radio but it sounds like Geelong were just too good for us in the end. We had our chances and we didn't take them which we have to do if we want to go anywhere this year.

But lets reassess the season so far.

We are 7 and 2 sitting second on the ladder and depending on Freo losing could be a game clear with Geelong. It's a old saying in footy but at the start of the year if you told me we would be 7 and 2 and be where we are I would have taken that in a second.

Is there room for improvement at Collingwood? I think so. Can we match if with Geelong? It will be hard but I think we can.

We are in a position now where we can and should be thinking of top four even top 2. There is still a long way to go till the finals but we have beaten 3 out of 5 sides in the top 8 so far with bad kicking costing us in the two loses. We need to continue next week with the way we have been playing so far and beat the Lions up there and then come back and beat the dogs again and ll of a sudden we are looking great again.

Lets be disappointed with last night but don't jump off the building just yet.

Agreed, and a great thing is we get another H&A game against them later in the season, where we'll be able to see if/how we've improved.

Totally disagree.I would rather be realistic than optimistic.And the reality is that the only main difference to last year is that we have managed to thrash weaker sides than us. But the main contenders have both beaten us convincingly.Again.

I wouldn't say we have just beaten the weaker sides. Fremantle Bulldogs and Carlton sit 3rd 4th 5th and we beat them by 6 goals plus. The 2 loses have not been good ones but if we can fix our goal kicking and take our chances then we are in both of those games with a chance to win.

We are not good enough yet to give the better sides any chances and when we do things like last night happen. 9 games in we have played 6 of the top ten sides and the 3 we haven't played are Sydney who we go well against Lions who we get next week and Port. All games we should and i feel will win. We have improved on last year. Are we still far off Geelong? Maybe. But at the moment we have given ourselves every chance to finish in the top 2 and or 4. Once you're there anything can happen just like 2002.

Agree with this 100%.

We have improved (last year we were 4-5 at this stage) but the painful truth is we still can't get beat the top 2 teams.

But I believe with the way the draw looked when it was released, most pies fans would have taken 7-2 and run for the hills.

Imagine if we can go 7-2 again, after 16 games we would be 14-4, 2 wins away from a top 2 spot with 6 games left.

Let me guess ummm Caroline Wilson. She's said nothing about our last 5 wins on that Classified show. I bet you she will have a crack at us on Monday night. Probably will even bring up the Malthouse/Buckley thing again and how our club is falling apart. I can just about guarantee this.

Totally!! Going in to our first month of the season with games against the dogs, dees, saints and hawks I was hoping that we would be 2-2. 7-2 is above my expectation thats for sure.

You can understand where the doubts come from as the two sides that we have lost to were the best sides from last year, both of whom we have a poor history against.

Going off on a slightly different tangent, but is it just piss poor timing from us peaking twice in the last ten years at the same time as two unbelievable dynasties in Brisbane and Geelong?

Yes, but our best players were older in 2002/2003 and we didn't have a real balanced list, or best players are much younger now and will still be hitting their peaks when Geelongs' light starts to dim.

The H&A season is about preparation for the finals, while ensuring you finish top 4.

We are still on target for top 4 and are getting valuable games in to youngsters that will help when it's needed in the finals.

Win the next 2 games against Lions & Dogs and I think we're a monty for top 4.
