We have to have a good hard look at ourselves fellas if we want to go forward. Simmo today was very poor. No doubt about that. What questions me about Simmo is what is his role in this team? His disposal is poor and he is not quick, therefore he struggles. Simple as that. He's been a great player for us but in my honest opinion I think he's just about done.

South Dragons, Storm.
He can not kick the ball properly. Very frustating.....
And neither can Edwards even when he is fit.

Simmo was ordinary today like last week and has not played well since coming back from injury but I will be damned if i am going to stand by and let the Captain of the football club who has been great since taking over the job cop a bagging.

Simmo has won us many games in the past just that father time has caught up with him lately.

This thread is bullshit.

Neither can Buddy.

There's more to football than kicking.
We're talking about kicking to position not for goal. When Simmo kicks to a man on the lead 30 metres away it is so slow and loopy that the defender 40m away gets there in time to get a fist on it. Half of these stuff ups are the cause of a lot of goals for opposition teams and ruin momentum and what should be easy scoring opportunities. He would only be in the best 22 of about 4 or 5 teams.

Simpson is a great captain but he kicking is terrible and handball can be horrible at times. He needs to practice on his handball and kicking heaps of the pre season.

Once again, I'm under no illusions about his kicking. I hate every time he looks like he's about to kick, let alone when he actually puts pill to boot.

Saying that however, his extractions are excellent. His leadership better. He's more than useful to the side. He's essential.

I disagree that he is essential.

He is useful provided that he meets the absolute minimum level of skill by hand and foot required to play AFL football.

He has been nowhere near that lately and is becoming a burden on the team because of it.

I have been a huge Adam Simpson fan, and you have to admit that he has been a great servant of our club.
But today he was awful, fumbled ,turned the ball over, didn,t chase.
He has never been a good kick but, today he even fluffed handpasses.
I just dont think you can get away with this stuff in todays football.
However it wasn,t all Simpson
You also cant get away with Watts turnovers either.
One in particular was bloody disgraceful, having gathered the ball deep in defence , he then hit a Port player right on the chest resulting in a goal.
Petrie missed three easy shots,Edwards didn,t deserve to be on the ground,Harris was garbage again.Boomer was good but not great, Matty C tried hard, Sam Power wasn,t the worst.
But the rest I just dont know what their mindset was today:mad:
But I know what mine is THEY WERE SHITHOUSE

I just can't agree with that. From what we have heard - yes, his off-field leadership is very very good. I also agree that he is very good at positioning himself around the packs and racks up a lot of touches because of it, but I wouldn't call his extractions excellent. In today's game kicking is just such an essential skill that making 2-3 turnovers or more per game from poor kicks just isn't acceptable any more - it hurts to much.

This is a very difficult position we find ourseleves in imo Simmo was one of our better players but also one of our most ineffective on the day. I thought he tried his guts out and had nearly the most possessions for a North player yet he is not damaging and other teams know this. I think we need to have him play another role back line maybe as he reads the play so well. His lack of skill cannot be longer carried from centre breaks , not when u also have Harris and Rawlings in there too, all in and under players and younger.
The question is which players in the midfield are going to get better and which ones are going to get us closer to playing great Finals and big game football regularly, we may find out beginning next week. I think a major reason Simmo still plays onball so much still is he is one of our bigger bodied midfielders too .

For a bloke who is the leader of our club, he should take it upon himself to realise my kicking is no good and just use the handball. He is a good clearance player but gees his kicking demonstrates poor decision making and lacks intention, at least hit up a target.

I think the problem with Simmo now is the whilst never quick he could get in the right positions but that part of his game seems to have gone.

Today he was corralled a couple of times and he had a mexican standoff with his opponent touching the ball on the ground and then tried to get away which just resulted in turnovers.

If he can't be evasive and then has to dispose under pressure, he is in real trouble.

Not a Simmo bagging session just an observation over many games this season.

Nothing to do with the loss today but it all seems to be catching up with him.

Simpson has been a great captain, I question his ability to keep playing the modern game in an uncontested role but he has been fantastic as a leader.
Fair point. Mark Williams had zero care-factor re manning-up Simmo. Whether Simmo got 20 or 50 touches yesterday would've made no difference to the score - that's the problem.

I cannot remember the last time Adam Simpson actually had a tagger put on him to negate his possession-he is seen as not being damaging with his possession due to alot of them being clangers, missed handballs and kicks. Why would an opposition coach waste a tagger on a player whom just is not damaging with his possessions?

I've been saying this for 5 years BUT apparently he is a great leader of men?
