Everyone just needs to take a step back and realise that this year was a complete write-off for Ben, and none of it was in his control. Bagging him based on anything to do with 2016 is complete nonsense and I'm baffled when I read people continuing to do it.
Perfectly said.

Let's face it. None of us really know how team-mates gel or don't. And those who are involved in the club and may know, shouldn't be spouting their knowledge on any rifts anyhow.
However, I have my personal theory (yes, hypocrisy, but as a BF member I am damn well entitled to it!)
Before the trade period someone suggested that one of the big 5 (not Jack) would be traded to break up a (clique / clicky ?) group.
Couldn't see it possibly being Martin after his season, couldn't see it being Cotchin, Rance may be a strange cat but that didn't fit either.
Deledio seemed to be the obvious one.
All the many discussions re Captaincy on this forum - Jack & Rance have their faults but already are "Generals" of their end of the ground anyway. Martin still young, too shy, etc and noone else can really be considered automatic best 22.
So it comes down to Cotchin or Deledio, with many posters believing it should have been Deledio. What if Deledio believes this himself? One of the biggest problems the club has is onfield leadership. I think Maric provided good support to Cotchin but with his absence from the team there has been SFA onfield support for him.
I'm not trying to hang shit on Deledio, but I think it's possible he was head of a group of senior players that may have somehow undermined Cotchins leadership rather than fully supporting him. Just like BF posters, maybe there were a certain number of teammates who felt he would be the better captain. You can still be a good bloke, a great bloke and still be affected by stuff like that and find it hard to give 100% to someone who's in a position you feel should be yours.

Anyway, just a personal theory. Feel free to disagree or crucify me. If its partially true it may mean better team harmony and onfield leadership for 2017.
As anyone who has played football, or another team sport, at any level can tell you, there are always splinter groups, or cliques. It's unavoidable. In 20-odd years of footy there are always guys you are closest to, and there are some you plain don't care for except for 100 minutes each Saturday. It's inevitable. And there will be disagreements with coaches. I disagreed with plenty and one o them was my brother, who I am as thick with. But it happens.
I'm betting Lids was as he appeared off and on field, the consummate professional.

2016 was a write off and before that the majority would agree that he was a surprise exclusion from the North final. Ben could be best 22 or not this year. Most agree he is capable and I'd be shocked if he now wasn't motivated to achieve his absolute best onfield.
I would like to see him play as a hard leading fwd next to JR8.

I think the fact he was looking at a move the year before than this year and his attitude has more to do with posters attitude towards him.Last year was a wipe out for him with his illness most people can't do a thing with that virus let alone play footy.

I'll take that bet. I'll even make it 100 AFL games. One (additional?) share in the big footy Richmond Player sponsorship after Ben's Retirement or reaching the 100 mark.

This year yes. Last year I believe it was the club holding out on him, at no point did he ever actually request a trade. There has been a crapload of talk about his "attitude", it's all very vague and lacking in examples. I think it's because of the way he looks personally.

All this shit aside about attitude, form, fitness whatever nobody really knows.
My own 'perception' of it is that he perhaps and his supporters got a little bit ahead of themselves and really took that North final ommision to heart too much.
For mine it was the right call and whilst i don't know, I really believe Ben believed what his fans were saying in that he was hard done by.
It's done long gone now and time to try to prove people wrong if that's what he believes.

and Just to clarify that's 100 AFL games (not necessarily with us).
Thats correct mate, He has played 10 so far and gifted 9 so has another 81 games to go

1 litre bottle of chivas regal , I have sent you my details so we shall wait until he is either delisted and not get picked up by another club then im having a drink or he plays his 100th game in 5 years time and you are having a drink

I'll be honest and say I'm not sure Ben can make it...5 mins here and there ain't 100% of the game which is what's required

Hope I'm wrong

Lennon showed he could do more than five mins a game, before he was dropped for finals previously.

You can't simply not worry about this season because it appears we are going to lose a talented young first rounder for free. Does anyone think it's realistic, Lennon we sign a new long term deal with Richmond if hardwick is still coach ?

The drafting of 15 midget-forwards doesn't look good for him

True about the DH influence on his career thus far...and yes prior to being dropped there was 1-2 games that were OK - but for a player of his calibre you always expect more...and more often

However, cometh the time cometh the man...It's up to Benjamin Lennon...we either lose a first rounder, or he finally hits the ground running at a consistent level throughput pre season and into the season proper playing VFL or seniors

Worth remembering Lennon was about 19 years old , when be was doing ok (or best on ground, however you saw it) ...

I wouldn't want to be betting a bottle of decent drink he wouldn't do well elsewhere. With a less moronic coach. A good deledio replacement option and we have buggered it up again

He was ripped off for that EF in 2015, but my sympathy for that evaporated when he shopped himself around this year, after already playing hard-to-resign last year.

You can see from the quote below (HS), he hasn't been in a great place this year, but he has to show some loyalty to the club, else we can't get behind him.

'He credits Reece Conca as one of the “positive forces” who helped put things into perspective during his rehabilitation from injury.

“Hearing him talk about his personal trials and tribulations allowed for me to see there’s light at the end of what’s sometimes been a long and dark tunnel,” Lennon said.'

No he doesnt have to play 100 games at Richmond , He just has to play 100 afl games which he has played 19 so far , So another 81 games to go.

If he does get to 100 games it will be for Richmond as i dont believe any other clubs would be interested in him if he fails again in 2017, His time will be up and at most will only get a Rookie offer ( same as this year)

People keep going on about how he was playing well before he got dropped and seriously it might be a good idea to go back and watch those games , He was never dominating he was just OK , Its now been made out that he was in stellar form and was dropped.

I have seen alot more from Kane Pettifer at the same stage than from Lennon , If he does end up making the grade and becomes a good player i would more than happily concede that i was wrong about him and pay up the bet - I usually dont lose bets and dont take sucker bets either

What you guys need to accept and understand about my views on Lennon is that i dont deny his talent, He certainly does have the talent to make it but he has flaws in his game and doesnt work hard enough to fix them and is the type of player that believes he has a right to game time because he is ben lennon #12 and should be given games

My angst towards his work ethic in games is more from what i seen of him the last 2 -3 years at lower level that what i seen at AFL level ( which isnt that spectacular either) But his refusal to do the team things and his arrogant approach to working hard on the track as well as his lazy attitude when ball is not in his area is what annoys me most.

I hope the new coaches have or will get this self entitled attitude out of him as if they dont he has no chance to go past 2017 and will find himself at Bulleen playing local football

He was cooked the week before against Norf 2nds.
Would not have got a touch in a hard, fast elim final. And before I get jumped on, griffo had two shots in the first 10 mins of that game but missed both. Would've changed the course of history.
