After Crock used BJ as a tagger and it was so effective maybe Bon has realised juggling positions and roles can better fit the team for finals. A team gets a run on and we know we have a few little plans B's up our sleeve.
Not sure that we are getting that experimental. To be it seems to be a more holistic approach to change.
We started the year with the intent (it seemed) of sitting back and hitting teams on the rebound, using Lachie, Hunter and Wright as our interceptors. Unfortunately with Hansen injured, Grima retired and Taz a newbie, we have not been as reliable. Also, we miscalculated the forward pressure trend and as a consequence our ball movement suffered, meaning that when we did get the pill we faffed around with it instead of being direct and clinical.
Recently we have seen the BJ tagger experiment, and the reintroduction of Garner and Turner for their forward pressure, meaning we are changing our focus and trying to mirror the trend of the better teams, that being pushing up hard and locking the ball in the F50 as much as possible. Even Waite has been getting involved in that aspect. I would be very interested to see out F50 tackles over the course of the year, and pressure acts by our small forwards and flankers.
The BJ thing has certainly impacted upon our rotations in the guts and I wouldn't be surprised if he was given instruction to hunt his ball a little bit more on the weekend, to see if he is capable of limiting the impact of his opponent AND have an offensive output himself because it is not a good move to carry a bloke in the midfield who only does one thing.
Overall I think the changes are positive and necessary, but I think we have left it a little too late in the piece to perfect, given we are so close to finals and we are as flakey as **** anyway.
