Our second quarter was more to do with Carlton being absolute pus in the first, then actually having a crack in the second. Shouldn't have, but did catch us off guard.

JZ a pretender, wow.

I don't think he'd get midfield game time in Sydney's midfield, while I don't think Lyon/Clarkson would appreciate him not running defensively.

All three of those sides put huge emphasis on running both ways, ziebell too often doesn't. Cunnington can be questioned for the same thing.

If Hodge/Mitchell, Parker/Hannerbury, Mundy/Fyfe had the same defensive running as Ziebell/Cunnington I doubt those three sides would be as successful.
On the flip side, I doubt Ziebell and Cunnington would be so lax defensively if they played at Hawthorn, Fremantle or Sydney.

I'm sorry I just don't agree. He has done this a few times of late. Gets his kicks when the sting is out of the game. I thought JZ, Spitta, Cunners were all pretty average.
The irony of this is how much you rate JMac. You certainly have a different view on football then me but that's what gives this forum so much life

Yeah, I just think players like JZ, Spitta and Cunners should be held to a higher standard. I'll watch the replay again and see if I was wrong. But all three particularly Spitta just weren't 4 quarter performers. JZ is a massive fan fave I get it, and I love him. But in a lot of people's eyes he can do no wrong.

Mate JZ was clearly the best player on the ground. I agree Cunners and Ziebell should be held to a high standard, but if there is a player that gets the most out of himself when considering natural ability, size & speed it's Swallow every day of the week. If Swallow had the natural attributes of MacMillan he'd be a top 10 player in the comp. It takes a long time for players to come back from Achilles injuries, he'll be back in full flight soon enough. I think you only need to look at our drafting of contested ball players to realize it's not about one of them dominating every week (as it's not sustainable). It's more about sharing the load, and they are doing it beautifully.

15 disposals for Swallow
17 disposals for Cunners
When we have the ruck dominance of Goldy...
As for JZ as I said before I love him, just thought these last few weeks he falls in and out a little too much. The Essendon game, he was a non contributed until he popped up in the last with 3 goals, don't get me wrong the fact he can do that is bloody awesome! Just shows what contribution we could get though.

Well can he do anything wrong then?;)
Of course he can, and of course he has. And to be fair JZ has more credits in the bank than my man JMac. All I'm saying is that when the opposition gets a run on JZ, Cunners and Spitta are the three that should be in the centre hitting the contest, locking it in, and then clearing the ball to our advantage. The last month it has been the defence under siege, and very little support from our guns inside.

Both played 75% game time or less and spent time away from centre.

It seems to me that both are being 'managed' a little by being played away from the guts. Shit, Cunners even had more uncontested than contested possessions. As further evidence to support this theory, both had close to 90% disposal efficiency the other night. That's insane for those two.

Maybe instead of being 'rested' we are managing players via rotation and repositioning.

23 touches, 5 tackles, 5 clearances and 5 inside 50's is a bit more than just bobbing up for 3 goals.

Carlton were non competitive in the first.
Possibly because they couldn't get the ball back due our dominance inside and accuracy on the outside?

We killed the first because we used the ball so well. We lost the 2nd because a. we didn't and b. Blues had a little patch of form.

After Crock used BJ as a tagger and it was so effective maybe Bon has realised juggling positions and roles can better fit the team for finals. A team gets a run on and we know we have a few little plans B's up our sleeve.

Not sure that we are getting that experimental. To be it seems to be a more holistic approach to change.

We started the year with the intent (it seemed) of sitting back and hitting teams on the rebound, using Lachie, Hunter and Wright as our interceptors. Unfortunately with Hansen injured, Grima retired and Taz a newbie, we have not been as reliable. Also, we miscalculated the forward pressure trend and as a consequence our ball movement suffered, meaning that when we did get the pill we faffed around with it instead of being direct and clinical.

Recently we have seen the BJ tagger experiment, and the reintroduction of Garner and Turner for their forward pressure, meaning we are changing our focus and trying to mirror the trend of the better teams, that being pushing up hard and locking the ball in the F50 as much as possible. Even Waite has been getting involved in that aspect. I would be very interested to see out F50 tackles over the course of the year, and pressure acts by our small forwards and flankers.

The BJ thing has certainly impacted upon our rotations in the guts and I wouldn't be surprised if he was given instruction to hunt his ball a little bit more on the weekend, to see if he is capable of limiting the impact of his opponent AND have an offensive output himself because it is not a good move to carry a bloke in the midfield who only does one thing.

Overall I think the changes are positive and necessary, but I think we have left it a little too late in the piece to perfect, given we are so close to finals and we are as flakey as **** anyway.

Have a look at Spitta's tackling when watching the replay. If all our players could reach this standard we would be premiership favourites.
