The incident had to be graded people. It is not a case of them sitting down saying 'oh well let's give him three.' Google yourselves a copy of the MRP guidelines table and have a go at working it out. Unless you think the it was more than low force, he is getting a fine.

It is kind of like that though(or can be if they want). Part of the reason the highly subjective 'impact' category is included in calculating the penalty

This off the AFL website:

7. North Melbourne
48 points (12 wins, seven losses) 111.8 per cent

The Kangaroos have taken care of business for the last six weeks, but their finals pretty much start now. Like the Tigers, one more win makes finals a strong probability but they would only start an even-money bet at this stage in each of their last three encounters. North would love a big scalp and will be itching to have a crack at Fremantle at Etihad next Sunday. They'll likely do so without Jack Ziebell who faces some time on the sidelines. Two weeks, the same as Jordan Lewis for his identical hit on Todd Goldstein would be appropriate.

This above is a f***ing disgrace. Coaches, clubs and players not permitted to give their thoughts on the MRP incidents but the Official AFL website can run opinions like this before the judgement has come through. If I was NMFC I would be asking for a please explain. Again, it's a f***ing disgrace.

That pissed me off as well, not only should comments like that not be made at this point, but it's also moronic. Claiming the Ziebell incident is "identical" to Lewis' hit on Goldstein suggests the commenter has watched neither incident.

Just made this a thread on the main board. I was absolutely livid when I read this shit.

That's ******. One week for Jack tops. Comparing it to the Lewis incident is imbecilic. To think that some jerkoff got paid to write that shit illustrates how poor the level of football journalism is at the minute. :stern look

He ain't going for the ball.
He ain't, and the problem is that Jack is an 80s footballer stuck in the 10s.

As the commentary team pointed out, that would've been a stern talking to by the umpire and a decent effort at making your opponent earn the mark in the 80s. Now it's a 2 week suspension.

The opinion is wrong, but it is not an AFL opinion. The AFL media division is operated by the AFL, but it operates independently from the AFL. While there is probably some bias towards the AFL at times on that site, the journos running it are pushing their own barrows, not the AFL's.

The difference between Ziebell and Lewis is that Ziebell hit whoever at roughly the same time as the ball arrived. Lewis hit Goldstein after Goldstein had had enough time between marking the ball and getting whacked to watch an entire season of the Vicar of Dibley.

BTW that's 1 week every day of the week Jack. The stuff about the 80s is wrong, it would have been 1 week then too.

Defenders then knew to make a forward "earn it" by punching them in the back of the scone, not coat hangering them. Just a massive brain fart by Jack, deserves a week.

Don't know if it's the same idiot on SEN - similar to when Jason Cloke missed the grand final (because that's relevant) - "in strife", thinks 3 down to 2.

A fine or one week sounds about right. More and it would be totally be different rules for Jack.

Clumsy but shouldn't be a week in my opinion. Not because he's North but because rubbing players out just because they make contact with the head will turn this sport into a non-contact sport through fear of missing matches.

Where his arm and fist ended up was stupid and a dumb split second decision. But if JZ takes a real swipe in that area, the other player would be off with concussion. Fine him and move on.

Regardless of the report, the next 24 months will define Jacks career imo.

He's been treading water for 2 years now, his consistency is shithouse, he has a game where he looks like a superstar, then a second year player for another fortnight.

He's been a 19 possession a game midfielder for 3 years now, he needs to step up and lead this football club like he says he wants to.

Talk of captaincy is bullshit, I want him to become a 25 disposal a game midfielder before that happens, or if he spends more time forward, which he should, match his current output, but get 30 odd goals a year.

He brings a lot to this football club, we all love his aplication and desire, but we can't pot his other team mates and leave his criticism because we love the way he plays.

He's one of the main reasons we haven't been good enough this year.

How can they even compare the two incidents? It is far more similar to the Waite incident in the first Essendon game, which got him a fine.

Lewis was a full second later than Jack, and his fist/forearm was 50cm further away from the ball.
