Yep, take the week. Might be a blessing in disguise. JZ gets a weeks rest before a tough couple of weeks/finals and we get to potentially see one of Froggy/Basti/BMac step up in his absence.

The Match Review Panel's findings
Jack Ziebell, North Melbourne, has been charged with striking Jack Newnes, St Kilda, during the second quarter of the Round 20 match between North Melbourne and St Kilda, played at Blundstone Stadium on Saturday August 15, 2015.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the St Kilda Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with medium impact to the head. This offence was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a one-match sanction.

Well i am overall happy with this result. Given how the mrp seems to hate jack, 1 week isn't too bad a result

I stand corrected.

The MRP continues to be a joke.

Take away the "it was stupid", "he wasn't going for the ball" etc.

The same incident has been let go numerous times this year, until Spud became the first to get done.

The only reason he has copped a suspension is the "medium" impact, not due to stupidity or not going for the footy. The guy got straight back up and kicked a goal, played out the game perfectly fine.

I thought it was medium impact to be honest. Low impact was Waite's one against Essendon. But Jack's, albeit similar, is a stronger punch and not just to the back of the head, but a bit to the side. 1 week is a fair outcome.

I agree with what you're saying regarding consistency. I'm not sure that I have a huge issue with a player getting a week for swinging an arm into the face of another guy who is taking a mark. It might be a fine line between "earning" a mark and a suspension but I'm hard pressed to go in to bat too hard on this one. Yes players get away with incidents like these at times. No, I don't believe they should.

Take the week Jack, should have been a fine, but the impact grading allows the MRP to engineer the result they want, Trent Dumont to replace him
Should have, could have. But hard to feel to hard done by. Take away all their bullshit gradings and I think a whack across the face while not really contesting the ball is on the line between fine & a week.

I imagine the MRP convo went something like this:

"Newnes gets straight back up and appears unaffected. What does the medical report say?"

"No issue of note. Unaffected and able to play out the game."

"Right boys, so how will we grade this one? If we grade it as low impact he'll get away with a fine."

"It doesn't look good so I'd prefer we grade it medium impact and send a message. If he wants to challenge it from there then he can go ahead. The message would have been sent regardless."

"Ok, done!"

Past incidents:

Jordan Lewis, Hawthorn
, has been charged with striking Todd Goldstein, North Melbourne, during the first quarter of the Round Five match between Hawthorn and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday May 2, 2015.

In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea, after the incident was classified as a three-match sanction. Media should note the MRP provided the assessment of high impact among its reasons below, based on point 4.2(b) of the Tribunal guidelines on page 9 ‘.. strong consideration will be given to the potential to cause serious injury’.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the North Melbourne Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with high impact to the head. The offence was classified as a three-match sanction. The player has no applicable record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a two-match sanction.

Michael Firrito, North Melbourne, has been charged with striking Matthew Kreuzer, Carlton, during the second quarter of the Round 18 match between North Melbourne and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday August 1, 2015.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Carlton Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as careless conduct with medium impact to the head. This offence was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a one-match sanction.
