Re: 19. Jack Ziebell

I hope the kid won't be injury prone with 2 broken legs already. His old man broke his leg 3 times during his career apparently.

I would prefer to see Jack playing the quarterback/defensive centreman role in 2011 to protect him from a heavy inside schedule for a while until his bones are stronger or recuperate. He could replace Simmo's old role and use his overhead skills and positioning to cut off opposition forays forward and elite field passing to set up attacks.

We have enough top quality inside midfielders with Swallow, Cunnington, Adams, Greenwood, Bastinac to cover this positional change anyway.

Thoughts?
But we have someone like Richardson/MacMillan/Urquhart who can play that role and they have speed which is what we need off half back.

I agree with Bigeasy - I think having Ziebell forward is a good idea and is a pretty good kick at goal his forwardline pressure would be great. He can also get a run on-ball on rotation basis. I think Campbell is unreliable now and Thomas has his patches of brilliance but has niggly injuries to often.

Yes, Jack is primarliy best served as a utility.

A half back, offensive swing man role in the Goddard mould is the way to go with Jack.

Plonking him in the forward line and leaving him there for good will starve him of too much ball. He has to switch hit.

It seems as though Mr Ziebell can't stay away from me :p

Ziebell said the heavily scrutinised exchange between skipper Brent Harvey and teammate Daniel Pratt at preseason training last week was nothing for Roos fans to worry about and said the scuffle shows just how tough competition for spots will be in North’s senior line-up this season.

“Competition for spots in our side at the minute is pretty hot so blokes are doing whatever they can to get into the coaches eyes and try and train well,” he said.

“It’s the way it should be at this time of year too — if everyone isn’t really keen then something is wrong.”

Ziebell, a former Wodonga Bulldog, returned to John Flower Oval yesterday to help run a coaching clinic with fellow Border prodigy Shaun Atley.

Ordinary interview.

- He's bought a house in Maribyrnong.
- He's feeling very fit.
- Team goal is to make the 8 and challenge the top 4.
- Petrie, Azza and Wellsy all flying at training.
- New boys have fitted in well at North.
- Pickering reckoned we smashed to 2010 draft with Atley and Harper.

Not much else that I remember.

I thought he hurt his back or nearly did, in a futile and reckless attempt to spoil a mark.

Last year I suggested he needs to be smarter about his desperate attempts to mark/spoil/smother.

Someone like the great Stevo or Arch needs to have a word to him. He's no good to us on the sidelines.

**** that.

He'll be second guessing himself for his whole career. Let him be Jack Ziebell.
