I get the point of this thread I do, he played averagely and could not get into the game, then went down with cramp.

25 games in 2 years with 2 broken legs!

Chill the F*** out

Edwards broke his leg and took how long to get back to any sort of form?

Nathan Brown had a severe break and after it was decidedly average.

He is coming from way back with a massive weight of expectation.

He may be 23 before he hits his best he may be 25 before he hits his best but I tell you what when desire meets with ability meets with endurance and he breaks a game in half, dear god I hope he is still wearing the number 7.

I'm not hearing any of this 2 broken legs crap.

The coach has deemed Jack fit enough to play AFL football.

If Jack doesn't play to a certain standard, then his effort is sub par.

If Jack isn't fit enough to play to a certain standard, then the coaches effort is sub par.

That's it, in a nutshell.

I absolutely love the bloke, but he would want to improve on sundays effort. I am confident that this will happen. He's too good and he's to driven, not to improve.

Some folk on here should chill just a little. Jack is coming from a long way back fitness wise in comparison with his peers.

Not the naturally fittest kid, as a junior Jack didn't really have the opportunity to train frequently with his TAC Cup team. I think he only played 7 games for the Bushies and then some Rep games.

He had a hip operation I believe when or before he was drafted so he was not really able to get a preseason. Then he broke a leg which hampered his efforts to get match fit. He had a good preseason, if a bit delayed, then he broke his leg again. Again, he missed out on match fitness but had a massive preseason, Which was his first full one.

Ever.

He cannot yet run out games but that does not mean that he should not be in the team. Managed correctly he will be able to play 60-70% game time and improve his fitness as the year goes on. His presence is important for the team in relation to developing cohesion and understanding of roles for the next generation. His leadership and example will provide inspiration to the rest of his peers.

He will need another pre-season or two before he is fit enough to run out games properly. By the time he is 23, the age Spitz was last year, he will be a beast and one of our best players. He has an uncanny knack of finding space in the midfield and reading the play as it unfolds. His disposal can be top shelf, although on the weekend he had a bad one.

In a sense the OP is right. Expectations on Jack are really high, but we must remember that he is not coming from the same place as a Scully, a Rich, a Hill or a Martin. He is starting behind them in terms to fitness. Given time he will reach the top of his game and be recognised as a top shelf footballer. He has too many tools not too.

No, and I'm not sure where you've yanked those two blokes from. Or why.

Is last night's game now the only usable evidence we have for the formations of opinions on North players? Or just until the next game?
I used Sidebottom and Thomas for a reason.

Firstly, Sidebottom - is a slightly similar player to Jack, both in statue and age, and was drafted around the same mark. But he has shown a lot more signs so far, doing things that you describe as "looking good" and cheating.

Thomas is full of things that look good, yet is one of the most highly rated young players in the comp.

The point being, there is nothing wrong with reading the play and sometimes doing the easy things like staying down and picking up the ball at the back of the pack.

I am not saying Jack won't be very good for us, but I am not sure why he should be judged on potential more than any other player on our list? He has good reasons to be behind in his development, but once he is in the 22, he has some fair and reasonable expectations to live up to. And using excuses isn't the way to go.

Kicking the ball to the opposition from a kick in in the middle of first quarter is hardly due to fatigue.

Is there any reason Rawlings ran under the ball when Jack kicked it to him?

Not excusing Jack's kick, just wondering if it made it look worse than it was.

The other stuff about two blokes I made no reference to at all and have nothing to do with anything I'll leave alone. As for judging him on potential, again, just don't where you're going with it.

The above....yeah, he ****ed it up. It was a shocker and it cost a goal. He was one of a few (!!) who made errors on Sunday and I'm sure he'll make some more before he hangs them up. He disposed at +70% on Sunday and is a very good kick.

Complete Crap, Ziebs has shown why people rate him so high, yeah he has not rip apart a game, but he's done more than Nic Nat,Watts,Krusier, and Masten who are rated very high, and in a closer contest i think he has shown just as much as D.Martin,So get off his back, if you called for him to get droped, you are a big flog and know nothing.

As Jack puts his head down to kick the ball, Rawlings is standing still.

As he kicks it, Rawlings is on the move.

As I said, im not excusing the kick, just wondering why Rawlings felt the need to run at him when it was a 15m kick.

Yeah, it looked like Rawlings ran in to provide the shepheard so Ziebell to clear the ball. ZIebell was hiding his intent for the short kick and it fooled Rawlings. The timing was perfect.

I can't imagine why Sidebottom may be more advanced than Ziebell. Playing for the best team in the country without any injuries I guess is a possibility.
Nobody said he should be as advanced as Sidebottom. Some signs that he is the player for the modern game is all I look for at this stage.

The only reason I brought up Sidebottom was NB's comment that "cheap footballers who get easy kicks look better", and I thought Sidebottom was a good example that it's ok to find some "cheap" kicks, as it shows you're smart player who can read the game. You don't have to fly into every contest kamikaze style to be known as a tough footballer - especially in the modern game.

If you mean stature then it's not ever ****ing close. Jack was 90kg as a 17 yo. He still has 10 kilos on Sidebottom.

He made a few mistakes FFS. Get of the kids back.

Maybe if Rawlings handball had have hit Tarrant instead of Tarrant having to go chase it we would have had more time to clear the ball and Jack wouldn't have had a pack of Eagles on his arse.

If you are going to have an opinion at least have an informed one and if you can't handle someone pointing our inaccuracies in your opinion then don't post, simple as that.

If Jack was a cheap footballer whose intention it was to look good and not play instinctive, hard, proper football, he would be judged much more favourably. He'd back off, cheat around contests, cruise into easy spots and float about. As it stands, he does it the hard way and does team things, so his current deficiencies are shown up. It's a credit to the kid.
Yep. The number of times he contested our long kicks up the line to our ruckman... Oh wait.:(

Firstly my opinion had nothing to do with Sidebottom's weight. Not to mention the fact you got it wrong anyway. (thanks Kangatime) The point I was making that Sidebottom was drafted around the same spot and was similar type of player - not a fast outside mid, but an inside smart natural footballer. Moreover, I wasn't even comparing him to Jack, just pointed out that Sidebottom was a smart player who knows when to go in, and when to stand back and get it on the outside, as a response to NB's post that "cheap" footballers look better.

You have on the other hand attached your claws to one point I made and have proceeded to point out so called "inacuracies" in my opinion. Opinion is not a fact, for it to be accurate or inacurate. It can be a reasonable or unreasonable. But quite frankly, if you of all people think that my opinion is unreasonable, I couldn't give a rat's ass.
