I watched Merrett live yesterday for the first time. What an absolute star. So composed under pressure, wins the footy and uses it beautifully. Merett is now on Bontempelli's level as the two best players from the draft. You can make a case for both players now as the best players. That's how highly I rate Merett.
I think Bont gets the nod because of his height and therefor his versatility upforward but good to see opposition supporters finally rating Merrett highly

I was the same and it had a lot to do with my opinion of Jackson.
I 100% remember being a bit annoyed at the time that we picked Zac up, thinking it had a lot to do with sentimental reasons in having two brothers play together rather than picking the best player we could (who I thought should've been Lewis Taylor at the time!)

This is going to be one of the widest Crichton margins seen in a while......
Zaka would have given it a real shake if he had maintained his early season form, but his inability to shake the tag has pretty much made it a 1 horse race.

You would think a rough top 5 would be-

Merrett
-Daylight-
Kelly
Zaka
Goddard

I remember thinking the same thing about the decision being for sentimental reasons or some healthy sibling rivalry, if so they got more than they bargained for!
I was at that draft night on the Gold Coast and the club seemed to take forever to make a decision, they had to ask for extra time with Dodoro and Bomber deep in discussion. It looked to me like Bomber was pushing for Zach (I have no idea if this is true, probably a figment of my imagination).
But the rest is history, he is a gun, love the guy!!

We were commited to taking Lobb if he was available there but Zac was too good to pass up

Pretty sure it was the pick we got from Freo for Gumby.

Also think Bassett had a say in his pick as he had coached Fantasia previously
26 was from Crameri trade. So we ended up probably winning that trade despite losing a valuable player. Not sure what we got for Gumby in the end. Fantasia seems to be the only good thing we got from having Bassett at the club.

Yeah I know Merrett was 26 from the Crameri trade - but the question I was answering was about Fantasia - we got 55 from Freo for Gumby - and grabbed Orazio. Another win for us in that draft :)

What this bloke has done this season is unbelievable, what will he do going forward with a more experienced and skilful midfield.
