Jesus Christ, we just lost to the best team in Comp by 6 goals, we were hardly embarrassed, we were good, they were better, simple as that.

I thought we played pretty well, except we missed a few chances in the fourth that definitely should have been kicked, McCaffer's set shots spring to mind, but I will half forgive him for the job he did on Chappy.

But please everyone just take a deep breath and settle down, yes we could have played better, but so could have they, we did farely well, considering we didn't have Presti, who I maintain should be in the side instead of Brown, not because Brown has been bad, just because Presti is better.
We didn't have Medhurst, which let them get out of defence WAY to easy.
I can guarentee that if Presti and Medders were both playing the score line would have been a fair bit different, firstly because Presti would not have allowed half of their marks inside 50, and secondly because Medders wouldn't have allowed them out of defensive 50 that easily.

So everyone just take a deep breath and settle, there is still 13 weeks to go, hopefully 16, that's a long time in footy.
Anything can happen.

Go Pies!

It's only round 9 after all. In the end I think we'll be better for the game in the long run, particularly the inexperienced lads.

Exactly, our average age tonight was pretty much 3 years younger and almost 40 games experience difference.
Plus we all know what has happened the last 3 years with the Premiers don't we?

2009 - St.Kilda beat Geelong in Rnd.14 but Geelong won the Flag against the Saints.
2008 - Geelong beat Hawthorn in Rnd.17 but Hawthorn won the Flag against Geelong.
2007 - Port Adelaide beat Geelong in Rnd.21 but Geelong won the Flag against Port.

So maybe some excellent times ahead??

I like that stat.... A LOT!

Yes it's only Round 9 but you have to admit that was a piss poor performance. We had them in the third quarter but couldn't get that goal to get 15 points in front.Never know that could've broken Geelongs back. But instead we just surrender without a fight and allow them to turn our 10 point lead into their 23 point 3rd Quarter lead. Sorry but that's just plain pathetic :(

It's hilarious, isn't it. I've been to every game this year (apart from freo) and when I get home I like to read bigfooty to compare my thoughts with others. When we're winning, we get 15 'toast' threads with everyone praising the smallest of things. We lose one match and the board fills up with 'roast' threads, and often for players who were just 'toasted' the week before!

Talk about fickle:rolleyes:

i agree mate, the over-reaction is just mad..

i know we played reactive football tonight, but come on, it's just one game, we'll learn from it.

Better we learn it now than at the business end of the year... this is the reason why we didn't play Presti, he didn't have the need to be tested.

lol what over-reaction? the response from pies fans, for the most part (looking at you dave the man!) have been rationale and calm, i'm actually impressed.

this thread is unwarranted, imo

Thank you for this thread ..I couldnt believe it when I logged on and saw ROAST everywhere...Geelong are better than us right now...I applaud the coaching staff for exposing some of our players to the big occasion...so much will be learned from this game come seasons end...we play them again in a couple of months so we do have a benchmark to gauge our season. Well done pies.

I think there is valid reason for the angst.
Even though for large periods of the game we were forced back into old habits and despite having not one recognised forward step up and provide a target, we still could have, at the very least, made it a close fought game if those who did have NUMEROUS shots on goal kicked accurately.
There are certainly problems to overcome, but that is what H&A games are for.

Personally I'll be moving on to the Brisbane game pretty swiftly as that is now a more important game in the context of the year leading up to finals.

If we are 14-2 after 16 rounds I'll be more than happy and Geelong will be just another upcoming game.

That said, MM, Bucks and the rest of the coaching staff know they have a problem to think through and find an answer to.

Someone was saying that last night at the game. :D
Let's hope history repeats itself.

The loss isn't the end of the world but it was sobering to see that the Cats are still clearly better than us. They are just much more calm under pressure and trust each other more than we do.

I don't thin the gap between the teams is insurmountable but it will be tough.

I didn't expect to win last night but I was hoping we could have got a few goals closer. I think we can play better and just have to be more proactive than we were last night. We also need to get rid of O'Bree.

Great OP. I woke up this morning & dwelled on the loss for about 180 seconds. Usually after a loss, or at least a bad one, i will hurt for most of the weekend. Didn't do it this morning because i know that:

- We were beaten by a better side.
- We will learn from this &
- I have FULL confidence that on our day, possibly in September, these blokes have what it takes & we have a seriously good bunch of players that will give us joy for AT LEAST 5 years & have a huge chance of lifting the cup.

Just watching the last qtr on Foxtel again and to be honest the first 15mins of it Collingwood absolutely dominated but were very poor in front of goal. Geelong absorbed it and then hurt us with Stokes kicking a goal from a Varcoe free and then it was pretty much game over. You have to punish Geelong when you get the chance but we didnt and it cost us.

Geelong are easily the best side going around but there is still a lot to go this season and Collingwood will be there abouts come September.

Last nights result doesnt dampen my belief that Collingwood are a premiership chance this year.
