Man I don't get the polarized views in this thread. It's either Daniel please don't go we love you so much were ****** with out.
Or
Daniel you campaigner **** off you dog... After all we have done for you, how could you.

He goes, I'm more then interested to see how his career progresses else where.

Getting a 2nd round compo pick is fine IMO for a 31 year old.

It's probably just dawned on him after seeing our fab 4 delisted that he'll be done soon too.
Probably thinking about his financial future, trying to get 3 Years out of some sucker.

I know mate, and I thought of you when I read the tweet from "scoop" (honestly who owns them self that floggish name). However I see the sense in letting him walk, and clearing salary space, list space, and hopefully gaining a good young kid through compensation.
I'm not really in the mood to justify the whys and wherefores and I can't say or write much without being melodramatic so I won't. TBH I'd have a lot of the same feelings if he retired gracefully as a premiership-winning one club player in 3 years time.

If you don't understand what Boomer, Drew and Firrito meant to all North Melbourne fans and the history of our club then you ain't no North Melbourne fan. Almost 1,400 games of experience gone and a coach who has done his best to kill the Shinboner spirit.
BS mate, ive been calling for this cull for bloody years! Finally!

Happy as well.

Either way.
If he goes and by some miracle we get an alright pick for him (second round or better) then it's a win.

If he stays it's a win.

Maybe part of the reason the club is allowing all the media stuff to be spouted is because the more like a wreck we are perceived the more likely the AFL will be lenient in their decisions around compensation for him leaving.

End of first round would be a fantastic result and I would back us in to pick up a quality kid (Clarke, Froggy someone like that).

There can be only one...
I'd be stoked with a 2nd or 3rd round pick, it will allow us to look at another kid or help to lure a younger player from another club, it will give another kid on our list more of an opportunity to rack up some experience, it will likely hurt in the short-term, but in 2015 when he only played 2 games we still managed to make a PF without him.

His time is coming to an end soon irrespective if his decision is to stay or go. People shouldn't get melodramatic, Wells has been a good servant, has given it everything and given us 14 seasons of amazing football, he is going to be 32 before the 2017 season starts, he deserves the right to end his playing days how he wants to.

243 games and 14 seasons, the man has given us enough, anyone who begrudges him a final contract that allows him to finish his days as he desires is extremely ungrateful and petty imo. I'll wish him the best even if he is playing for Collingwood next year.

He doesn't owe us anything else.

Don't forget the two Syds. He has been a fine servant and owes the club nothing.

I just wish we had drafted him a decade later and plugged him in as an inside mid, rather than wasting half his career as an outside wingman.

Many of us have been in the first camp for years but I have trudged off to the second camp now. Even if he stays with North it will be begrudgingly so he can **** off.

It's not about the two camps, it's the extremities of the two camps.
Hes been a player for us for 15 years.
Hes only trying to sucker a third year out of club. We won't give him a third.

3 years would be totally irresponsible though. Even Wellsy should understand that given he watched Boomer, the best example of professionalism and durability, take one year deals for the last 7 years.

He won't get a third anywhere else either, not with his recent injury situation.

I definitely want him to stay, but even more so I want him to want to stay.

EDIT: OK so C'Wood have offer a third... they must be certifiable down there. No disrespect meant to Wellsy at all.
