Autopsy 8 point loss to Port

How the **** we only lost that by 8 points. We were horrendous but we all know the level we need to be at. Yet we were still only 8 points off. A bit short of it at the moment. If we can go up a level we'd be at the pointy end.

Give me some good vibes

Tell me why

Bonus points if the answer isn't Mills and Gulden

The league is relatively even.

Richmond got up this week , Eagles push a side on their day and teams aren't that far apart .

Plus you get a couple of off season moves right or find a player it can turn really quickly .

Yes injuries are a factor this year and Mills, Gulden etc do help massively we can't pretend they don't.

Even ignoring the injured players I would say not one of the guys who have played 50 or more games is currently at their best, many are miles away.

We have been in a position to win every game bar really the Pies game, not saying we haven't played some
shocking footy but even today for a small
patch we were flying.

It's there , it can be unlocked. Yes it's ifs and buts, but if it was my playing group i'd be looking at how close we are in games despite the errors and what happens if we play quick and forward lead and reiterate the basics.

Teams play in a patches form comes and goes , I mean Port are mostly lousy this year including even today and have now won 3 of 6. It turns quick

But the hope can kill you I guess

I guess but watch that first half again and you lose all hope very quickly lol was as bad as i can remember.

I sympathise with this argument, but equally there just aren't enough guys putting pressure on key players. Sheldrick and Paton were found wanting at AFL level (though granted I think Sheldrick may have been misused), while McDonald still isn't 100% ready. Ladhams doesn't really have a role to play. The rest aren't good enough yet.
The problem with Ladhams is not that he can't do some things well - he is a more than serviceable ruck, and when he is on is a more than serviceable forward. But you rarely get both, and he isn't really good enough consistently enough as a forward to play him as a 2nd ruck/forward. He just doesn't have a role unless it is as number 1 ruck.

Watch Brisbane thursday they look shit, the team has to get back to basics and turn this around .

Amazing what a bit of work rate pressure and effort will do, need to do the basics

They had a large part of the turf die .

So parasite or something.

Super unusual for the SCG.
Usually one of the best outfield in the world
Okay - very strange, but would at least explain why it looked like the easter show had been on it yesterday lol.

I wouldn't say its one of the best fields out there though - at least not in footy season, given how little relative use it gets (i.e. we are the only winter tenants consistently - noting it was much busier when the footy stadium was being rebuilt).

If Blakey's running goals sail straight or McLean doesn't fluff a few and we'd be celebrating a win, saying Port were unable to maintain the pressure needed to stop a rampaging Swans resurgence led by Heeney. We'd be thinking 2024 thoughts and daring to hope.

I don't like this losing honourably business. Cox seems to want to be friends with all the players, asking us to "be patient, we're playing the way we want to play, wins will come, etc, etc".

Personally, I think he needs to read the riot act to the team and even burn a couple of players as an example to others. Pressure, hard running, tackling, basic skills and execution must all be fundamentals, expected in every game and non-negotiable.

Number of touches is not everything. Winning contested touches counts more as they rob the other team of a possession. Kicks are generally more valuable than handballs, particularly if the disposals are efficient and we keep control.
Massive coping mechanism. We don't have a reliable player atm that you know will get 30 touches and be good enough week in week out. We have only had 1 30 touch game and it was Roberts this week and everyone said it was a shocking game from him anyway.

This time last year we weren't playing our best footy tbh and were 5-1 scraping by but we had 4 30 possession games and 3 more 28+ games as well. Thats way more than we have at the moment.

Yes we are missing Errol but we can't be basically a team that relies on Errol Grundy and Heeney to perform 85% of the year

Especially when Grundy is so shit

Carlton beat the Lions last season which is why Carlton fans think they are "capable" of winning a flag.

But I watch Carlton every week and they are shit.

What do you think? we have got all we can out of the list ? , which is fine not having a go if you believe that.

Then what do we do beyond 2025? Blow it up - retire Lloyd Rampe , trade Heeney? Mills? someone?

Coasts by with his usual 17-19 low-impact disposals, 4-5 kicks that scrub along the ground and and 2-3 jumper punches each game.

Give me Florent every day of the week...at least he keeps going to contest after contest and tries to make something happen.
Yeah Juzzy seemed to come back unchanged after his weeks off, yet he often seems to be (undeservedly) pumped up by Cox or one of his teammates, even though he doesn't bring it to games. I can only surmise that he brings in a box of Timtams to hand out after team selection.

Worried about the list and think we fluked making the GF last season.

Getting Port in the preliminary final was lucky.

Grundy has won his matchups since the bye as well, yes pre bye he was iffy and loosing them but post bye he has been in the top 3 Sydney players each week. Yes he isn't like he was when he was 25 and could be game definitely but he is still a plus at the moment

Sorry Kb, what massive coping mechanism are you referring to?
