Imo that’s because I honestly think his body can’t cope with being in the ball

Maybe, but they also don’t try it. I mean he seems months away anyway, basically a write off now of all our injured guys, by the time he is fit we are either in form so wouldn’t pick him, or ****ed so why bother picking him.

No way mills will just walk straight back into senior footy in the middle and make a huge impact

Think some are forgetting last year when we tried playing him straight in the middle then had to move back because he was struggling big time

He isn’t the Bont
To be fair Bont hasn’t missed as much footy as Mills over the last 18 months. Mills needs a few reserves games to get going.

Last year was a nonsense straight back in. Struggling to keep up in a north game.

Robbed 2 years from what should be his prime absolute disastrous for himself and the club.

Personally think the season is a write off now but internally if Cox and Co don’t they have to roll the dice and not go overboard with the process of how these blokes come back to Senior footy. Dont disagree with your point one bit but how do you handle Gulden’s return ? Couple in the 2’s Don’t want underdone blokes playing either but if some of our so called stars are a little underdone are they still going to be better than a few running around. Personally think McDonald should have returned on the weekend but get the feeling Cox is trying to prove a point as much to our standards as he is to Horse. This could be a development year now so if that is the case then all good to go down the track he is.

I think the season is still alive for us , really need to pinch one of the next 2 (ideally both) then do what's required v Dons and Blues .

5-5 and launch

Warner is crusing ...the Swans should be open for the cannot be resisted offer. Papley as well.
This year is all about setting up for next year and beyond...for the rest clear out the Longmires dead wood for Dean to make his own stamp on the list. Predict 14th with a quick rebound next year.

As an attack we missed 3 of our top 4 goal kickers from last season and 6 of our top 10 goal kickers which certainly doesn't help us.

What was a big problem yesterday is neither McLean/McCartin are mobile enough from a pace perspective up front.

The other problem I see is that we have to many players lacking in pace when the ball is moving - McLean, Roberts, Rowbottom, Jordan, Lloyd, Campbell

It’s quite obvious that Warner and Heeneys ability to consistently hit the scoreboard last year masked a lot of the issues we are witnessing in the forward line now.
We've always known that our talls up forward are an issue.. same as down back.
Thats why we've tried to trade in 'a' grade talls at both ends for years. For a Sydney team, its easier said than done.
Its also why we have drafted Riak Andrew, Harry Arnold, Buller, Will Green, Snell, Edwards over the last 2 years.. Owen, McAndrew, McDonald before that

Also we are really putting a lot of chips in the hope that Mills is still the same player he was in 22 when he has a full run at it.

I have my doubts. I think he’ll have to be managed for the rest of his career.
Im not a doctor, but Im not sure why he has to be managed the Rest of his career?
Hes just turned 28, theres no reason that he cant get back into 'A' grade form. It may (likely) take a few games, but could/should be a massive contributor 2nd half of this season

hahaha.. 2 years ago, people here wanted to trade out Heeney.. now its Warner and Papley (and anyone else that played under Horse - Horses Dead wood). What a f**ken great idea, trade out your best players. Another BF gem.

This year is about making finals, like every other year. Once you make finals, then its about winning finals.
We're 14th after round 6, not round 23

And he was also the first commentator, that I can recall, to call out the fact that we don't run forward in numbers and move the ball by hand, it's always us trying to kick our way through the field. This is something I have been complaining about for years and it's been driving me nuts that we're never called out for it.
Dont you remember how the Swans used the stand the mark rule?
They would take two steps back from the man on the mark and hand off to a player running past. And to great success. Thats not really 'kicking our way through the field'..
Are you complaining about that? or just seeing what you wanted to see??

When we were kicking our way through through the field.. and won 13 out of the first 14 games last year.. were you complaining then?

Then there was of course the youngest team in the comp in '21 & '22 that made finals and the grand final, kicking their way through.......

I wouldn’t call it complaining, but Caesar did talk about how we were playing and kicking through the field for ages including during the streak.

Also when were we the youngest team in the comp,? 10th oldest in 2021 and 6th oldest in 2022

This.
You want to be there about on August 1.
Then have a decent injury free run.

Plus I have no idea who is a good side in the comp anymore.
Teams have little mini runs.
Then look meh again.

I thought this was our worst performance of the year , but we still should have won it in the last.

I think Cox would need to be pushing the positives , this team could easily have won Hawks, Lions and Port game. Not saying it's ifs and buts etc, but more a message of just do the right things, do the 1%ers and you guys can win the game v the Suns and then GWS.

Yep, that was our worst performance of the year, against a good but not great Port team. But they brought more pressure and more polish than us for three qrs, just as the pies did the week before.

Think we're all just hoping it will click into place (as it seemed to vs North) but it's going to take a mighty effort and renewed passion.

Just one of the many things that got my goat was we've gone from one of the elite teams in the competition at finding a teammate inside 50 to having not a single uncontested mark I50 for the first half. Teams have worked us out and we're not working hard enough to turn it around.

Watching live it is definitely apparent our work rate is down. The inability to take uncontested marks and conversely, the inability to stop uncontested marks by our opponents is a direct result of poor two way running and work rate. The number of goals over the back is also a sign of poor work rate. Compounding all this is poor execution of basic skills.

Not sure how we turn it around given similar issues are plaguing our VFL team. It's kinda damning that the 3 guys I'd consider bringing into our AFL team, Nick Shipley, Ben Edwards and Matty Lloyd are semi pros who are not even on our listed roster.

I would be picking Buller this week, and playing him in the Amartey role. Francis plays the McDonald role, McLean is McLean.

This enables us to stick to the structure. Whether we agree with the structure or not, this is the structure we are going to continue to play, so we need to have the right pieces in play.

The other thing that just needs to change is execution. With the ball in hand, the amount of times guys are missing targets by both hand and foot is ridiculous. Also execution without the ball in hand, things like tackling and man marking. Tackling, we've been brushed aside countless times this season and it is deflating. And I've lost count of the times we have been scored against because our defenders don't have touch on their small forward opponent and it goes to ground. Uncontested crumbing goals.

McCartin goes back to form that partnership with Melican. I think its underrated how well they worked together last year with Rampe and Blakey, let's switch back to that. It does mean Hamling makes way, but so be it.

Backs - McCartin, Melican, Blakey, Rampe, Wicks, Roberts, Bice

Mids - Heeney, Rowbottom, Jordon, Ch Warner, McInerney, Lloyd, Florent

Ruck - Grundy

Fwds - McLean, Buller, Francis, Hayward, Cleary, Co Warner, Campbell

Sub: Hanily

In - Buller
Out - Hamling

How in the blue moon in Hamling going out and yet somehow Lloyd, Florent, Corey Warner keep their spot? How is that even remotely rewarding performances? Enough is enough, a big call or two has to be made if I see the out Hanily in someone we all can say Cox is just as soft as can be and isn't true to his words pre season.

Heaps of negativity here. Most of it fair. Some usual posters who are never positive. Bad kicking is bad football so I’ll agree with everything being said about our skills. On the other hand, not much being said about our dominance in contested possessions, ground ball gets, clearances. xScore we should’ve won comfortably. Some of our best kicks had bad days. Blakey, Bice, Campbell all missing many gettable goals that I’d back them in to kick in the future. If we can continue to keep winning contested ball, clearance, and groundballs our skills will turn around and we will be okay.

I’m normally reasonably positive.

But the fact remains: over the past 20 games, we’ve lost as many as we’ve won.

At the moment, we are not a top 4 side & in fact, top 8 is questionable.

We had a brilliant first half of 2024, off the back of Heeney, Gulden and Warner all excelling. But we’re nowhere near that now.

Every loss as the moment seems to be “coulda woulda shoulda”. But the losses are mounting.
