Maybe the combination of players are utilised to match specific traits?
Like I said in the Will Walker thread it will be comparing a lot of the things punters wouldn't be able to see or keep track of easily like contested/uncontested split, where they get most of their football, how their kicks rank, % of contests won in each part of ground etc.

There can be only one...
Kelly in 2019 will cost most likely 2 first rounders.
Kelly in 2020 will cost us nothing as he will be an RFA.

I don’t get why he didn’t sign a 3 year deal to allow him to come to the club for free.

Do we really want to give up these picks? I would rather her wait another year and get him for free.

Anyways hopefully by 2019 we realise that we already have a good midfield and that we do not pay overs in picks and contract for him. I feel we will need some salary cap to retain our players.
I honest doubt we will have the cap space that we do now in 3 years time. I think he wants to bag a flag in the short-term and will then focus on what he would like to do. There is nothing to suggest he can't or wont extend for another year either this year or next year if he feels it's his best option.

However, I think the longer it goes, the less likely he will come to us.

I feel a large amount of confidence that Kelly will come to North for 2020. He’d only have served 6 years at GWS so won’t be available to be a Free agent. It will have to be a trade.

I want us to keep our powder as dry as possible (and boy is there some dry powder in stock), go to the draft next year again but then in 2019 offseason trade our picks for Kelly, and also try to get a free agent.

Preuss will be our ruckman. LDU will be 20-21, Kelly and McDonald 24-5, Cunnington 28-9, Higgins 32 and hopefully still playing) Add in Dumont, Clarke on the wing and hopefully Ahern.

I reckon our midfield will be very good if we follow this strategy.

I fully expect Higgo to play till he's 34. By then he'd be primarily a small forward, but having missed so much of his career with injury, combined with the fact that his type of player generally play longer anyway I reckon he could be round till at least 2021.

**** Josh Kelly. He can wait until free agency now.

If he didn’t want the godfather offer he can stay up in the shithole in Sydney.

GWS have had the most talented list the last 2 years but haven’t got the chocolates. Their midfield depth is starting to decrease now so they aren’t going to be as good as they were especially with a few injuries. Hope they never win a flag.

Carlton became their unofficial reserves squad. Enough said.

I respect and understand the sentiment, but those feelings will pass within all of 10 seconds if there is even a sniff that he will come.

We will go giddy at the knees like the Beatles just rolled into town.

I don’t think I’d be very happy in giving up 2 first rounders at the end of 2019 when he would be available the following year as a free agent. He can spend an extra year at GWS if he really wants to be a north player.

Free agency rules could change to be less years to qualify

Wouldn't surprise me if it's changed to 6 years at start of 2019 to be a fa

I could be wrong but I think it's the end of 2021 that he'd be a free agent (assuming no change to rules)?
