In the three games since Mick Malthouse was sacked by the Blues with John Barker installed in his place, Patrick Cripps has looked a bona fide AFL player more than a second-year player.

The 20-year-old from WA picked up another 31 disposals against the Power, at the same time recording career-high numbers for inside 50s (seven) and tackles (12) while matching his best for clearances (nine). The heat maps below show his output against Sydney (25 disposals, nine clearances), Adelaide (25 disposals and eight clearances) and Port Adelaide.

The midfielder has been exceptional, and winning first use at the stoppages has only made him hungrier around the ground. Cripps currently leads all eligible rising stars in disposals, contested possessions per game and clearances, while sitting second for tackles per game, and some of the margins are are unfair.
 
So we're raving over Cripps... media articles raving over Cripps.... BF opposition fans on main board etc... not so much.

Nothing changes :D

They'll soon learn though. Well, you'd think so, but then again, Cripps could win the Brownlow THIS year, execute a handball so fast that breaks through the fabric of space and time and wins him a Norm Smith from the future and cure cancer and I reckon the BF think tank would STILL rate him behind most of the non-Carlton young players who do some flashy things.

Fair bit of respect for Cripps but there's still some crackers -

'But but but the stats are irrelevant because he was too unfit to play last year' or we are overrating him because 'Priddis, the reigning brownlow medallist is a better handballer' and 'Merrett is much better as he has more handball receives' :rolleyes::eek:

and yet J Hogan is favorite (among media 'ex perts') to get the rising star award.:eek:

Got lost without the ball, sagged off his opponent too much, worked underneath it too often. The only thing he had going for him was a nice disposal.

I had to stop reading half the stuff over there as it was just too infuriating. The arguments and comparisons often don't make a great deal of sense.

To be fair Hogan has been very good and will be a star.

Many of the arguments around Hogan winning seem to focus on it's much harder for a young key position player to excel than a young mid. But that takes away from the fact that Crippa isn't an outside mid collecting uncontested stats he is a contested beast and dominating in contested possessions, clearances, tackles and hard-ball gets in a manner few (if any) have done before (@12 games).

I'd argue that it's just as difficult for a young mid to compete head to head against the likes of Kennedy, Selwood, Wines as it is for a young KPP to compete and win contested marks against seasoned key defenders.

About 8 of us have mentioned his broken leg but no one has acknowledged it:straining:
 
He only broke his leg because his bone strength is clearly inferior to all the other young players taken ahead of him and Carlton clearly stuffed up in taking him.
