Struggling to see why this is something worth getting upset over one way or the other. Strange place this
Perhaps because other than a Wok Cup about a billion years ago and Judd's Brownlow, Carlton as a club hasn't won a thing. You really struggle to get how supporters are keen to see the young bloke who has finally brought a smile to the faces of starving kids around the world get acknowledged?

I hereby acknowledge that Cripps has been a gun this year & will be the best player in the league very soon. Congratulations to the first ever winner of the B&S award - Patrick Cripps!

Edit: The opinion that the judges are morons and the desperation for their approval seem at odds to me is all.

First year player, mate. Not second. Yes, yes, he's 20. Yes, it's his second year on an AFL list, but it's his debut year. You know, no games played. No experience in the AFL. No games under his belt. Developing tall, and all that.

What a crock.

So the fact that Cripps got a couple of games last year puts him at some advantage?

It's not about when you made your debut, it's about how long you have been in the system, with access to better facilities, fitness staff, nutritionists, coaches.

If a player played VFL for 6 years and then had a great year in the AFL, would you consider them a first year player?

****en hell, they would both be very deserving winners of the RS medal.
Indeed they would. To be honest, Cripps seems to be the type that wouldn't give a toss whether he wins or not. It really is just a pissing contest between fans and I am more interested about the accolades he'll get later in his career anyway. How many flags did former RS winners Nick Riewoldt and Nathan Buckley win?

Cripps' down games are still pretty good for a young mid, he's just set a high standard for himself

To his credit, Terry Wallace said on the Future Stars program on Sunday afternoon that Cripps deserves to win, consistency should be rewarded (Terry's words)

I still harbour hope that a
Couple of decent judges, like Shifter and Richo (who has been a massive wrap for our boy on 3AW) give Cripps the max votes.

If KB doesn't give Cripps a vote (like he didn't with Ryan Griffen the year Deledio won it) I am going to roundhouse a few neighbours letterboxes (not really, but the rage will be there ..)

Cripps is very good.

Hogan is very good.

Whoever wins will just have "2015 Rising Star" in the small print at the bottom of a solid list of achievements.

Well he saw enough of him when we played Melbourne, gave him his 5 coaches votes.
Cripps is ranked 8th in the competition for contested possessions and 11th for clearances
Pretty impressive.
Melb supporters were ****ing filthy at him for his comments about them being negative and one of the reasons the club wasn't going well.

He's been pumping up everything Dee's since.

I really don't rate him anymore.

Can't blame the guy for pushing the agenda for his own players. Every coach in the comp should have that mindset.

However he could, at the very least, be tactful about it. Talk about Hogan's achievements, talk about his attitude and work rate and the adversity he's overcome. Then when asked about his closest competition, Patrick Cripps, say that Cripps is an immensely talented player who deserves all the accolades he's getting, but that Hogan is the player he's most qualified to speak about.

"I haven't seen much of him, but Hogan's better" is exactly the kind of crap the halfwits in the media latch on to in order to sell papers and improve their ratings.

Watching one game does not give one the knowledge to make the kind of statements he made last night.

He is being disrespectful to Cripps!
