Hey guys...

Any thoughts on my proposed trade below?

Being a St.Kilda fan, it's hard to represent everybody's best interests. If you hate Bowden, this provides food for thought, If you love Bowden...don't read on ;)

The Tiger fans may see being a litte tough, but I heard that you could be prepared to part with pick#4 for Johnson?

Any alterations you'd like to see/add/change/etc?

I know there are a LOT of clubs involved, and some would ask why so many - to be truthful I don't know why so many clubs would be 'in' on this deal, but it provides a reasonably fair scenario - I hope!

Adelaide:
In - Wayne Carey, Jason Torney, James Begley
Out - Kane Johnson, Lawrence Angwin + Pick #14

Kangaroos:
In: Pick#19, Pick #20 + Pick #24
Out: Wayne Carey + Brady Rawlings

Richmond:
In - Kane Johnson + Pick #14
Out - Joel Bowden, Jason Torney + Pick #20

St.Kilda
In - Joel Bowden
Out - James Begley + Pick #19

Hawthorn:
In: Lawrence Angwin + Brady Rawlings
Out: Pick #24

Suggestions! Who's been done with unfairly - Who's been given a dream deal! Is this fair or a blatant disgrace?!?!!?!?

Once more Bowden has been compared to a second rate inconspicuous nobody ...has Begley ever featured amongst the best three players in his career to date

Begley would have been amongst the Saints 3-best in quite a few games in the latter half of the season, inc. BOG vs Sydney.

BTW, Begley is quite highly rated, but we have way too many midfielders of top quality, esp with Ball and (hopefully) Saleopek coming through next year.

Pick #19 is a pretty good pick, I'm not suggesting Begley is equal to Bowden, but some guys who've gone around this number in the past two drafts include James Kelly and Daniel Kerr, so I think the deal has some merit. Just depends whether you think Bowden is sort of genius or he's as soft as they come. I think he's soft but skilled - talk about a compromise;)!

agghhhhh its one thing to be amongst the bst three in a consistently losing side ...Iw as referring to BOG .....this is usually a pretty good indicator for the level of influence a player has ....Rating amongst own peers can be misleading when side finishes second bottom in a high point over the last two seasons

Nice little hypothetical you've got here. Why are trades so complicated these days?

On first glance I feel Richmond is getting a bum deal. But if Torney is already going anyway, they've done quite well. Johnson is a better player than Bowden and they've improved their second draft pick.

Adelaide look to be doing okay out of it. They can't hold on to Johnson and Angwin would be delisted anyway.

The deal is certainly a win for Hawthorn.

Are St Kilda happy trading a pick and a player for Bowden?

But I feel this deal falls down with North Melbourne, who are going to want a higher draft pick than #19 in return for Carey.

From the Crows perspective...midfielders we've got! Johnson leaving opens the door for Gallagher, Mattner and Doughty. Not too many worries there.

What we need are key position players. If Marsh and Angwin go, we will need at least another two back up ruckmen. Biglands and Clarke cannot do it on their own.

We also need at least 2 key defenders (Rutten from the rookie list will be one) and another key forward. I would'nt give up Angwin for anything less than a key position player, preferably a ruckman.

Thanks DW

Richmond - Bum deal, but Torney is going. Bowden is anyone's guess. A nice draft pick to sweetin it.

Adelaide - Yeah not tooo bad!

Hawthorn - Angwin is unknown, Rawlings is a bit iffy, pick #24 seems about right.

St.Kilda - A player and a high pick is a lot for Bowden, but he's a good player IMO - Unlike 75% of the football world! I think he just needs some steal. Under Frawley he's gotten none of that, which has tarnished his game and made him a whipping boy of Tiger and non-tiger fans alike! Needs a change - could be like Vardy @ Melbourne, but could be like James at the Dogs!

Yeah fair point...

As if the Saints would trade for Bowden! As if anyone would!

A bit long mate, but who's counting? Greg Miller has been rumoured to be monitoring my trade posts very carefully ;)

This is one of the most lop-sided "trade deals" I have ever seen. Adelaide and St Kilda would be huge winners and Richmond and the Kangaroos huge losers if anyone was demented enough to actually consider it.

BTW Torney is not "already gone". Richmond have said that they would not be able to work out a contract for him till they have worked out their other deals and have said to him he can look elsewhere. This does not mean he is free to any other club, which is what this deal effectively would be.

Do Kangaroos still believe they can snag a top-5 pick for Carey?

I wouldn't trade him for Justin Plapp (Ok...maybe Plapp...but not Josh Dicketts!). Adelaide need to wake up and stop playing by the Kangaroos demands; they'll realise the TRUE value of a 32-year old EX champion.

A marvellous player in his day, will be absloutely hounded next year by backman who no longer fear him but yearn to claim to their kids "I beat the King!"

Will be handy, 40+ goals would be tremendous, but he needs to avoid injuries, which at 32, isn't always easy - admittedly he has had a year off cooling his heals. Struggled since 1999, looked worn and jaded at the end of 2001.

Three picks around #20 gives Dean Laidley further enhance the Roos youth policy, and these are good picks. The Roos need to enhance their famous leg speed with King, Archer, Simpson, Stevens not getting any younger, not to mention Blakey retiring. A plethora of top 25 picks in addition to the developing kids at Arden St sounds good to me.

But this is purely my opinion, and if the Roos can weasel pick #4 out of Richmond for Kane Johnson (gained by the Roos for swapping Carey) than good luck to them - a big coup, will be surprised to see Richmond fooled into it though.

Something to ponder about peoples .....

If richmond can't afford to keep Torney then how the F*** can
we afford Kane Johnson...?????????????????.

The way they are going about it all how the F*** are we going to be under the sallary cap... .... ......

Spot on Jerome. Begley isn't the type of player we need & we will want to balance the team up position wise with the likes of Johnson, Angwin & our 1st rounder.

I have just caught a sniff of the same stuff evertonfc is on ...how about this doozie saints fans......Vardy/Poyas for Riewoldt

cmon Listion medalist in there ....both real good VFL players ...be standouts at Moorabin

Foxhat ... the problem's not with what Torney's currently on - it's what he's demanding in his new contract.

Basically the Tigers heirarchy line of thinking is that if they're going to be paying Torney all that dough, then they may as well be paying it to someone like Kane Johnson, who they probably consider to be potentially a more valuable player.

Richmond wont be giving up pick 4 to get Kane Joshnson :).

Tigers join `Duck' hunt
By MICHELANGELO RUCCI
18 October 2002

RICHMOND is ready to help Adelaide's campaign to get Wayne "The Duck"
Carey, but it wants resigned Crows midfielder Kane Johnson in return.

And the Tigers have knocked back the proposal the Kangaroos are
understood to have put to Adelaide this week – get Richmond's valuable
first-round draft pick, No. 4, for 24-year-old Johnson and hand it and
the Crows' No. 14 pick over for 31-year-old Carey.

Carey, who is waiting to sign a two-year contract with the Crows,
arrived in Adelaide yesterday afternoon to take up residence.

Richmond's new director of football, Greg Miller, yesterday ruled out
next week trading the No. 4 draft pick for Johnson.

"It's not what we want to do, so we're looking at other options that
allow a three-club deal between us, Adelaide and the Kangaroos," said
Miller, a former chief executive at the Kangaroos.

"We've spoken to Adelaide and sincerely believe something can happen.

"There is a good chance we can link Kane Johnson's trade to us and
Wayne Carey's move to Adelaide. And if we do, we'll be happy – we'll
have got our man (Johnson)."

Richmond's critical part in engineering Carey's trade to Adelaide will
not be consolidated until after the weekend. Miller cannot convene a
match committee meeting at Punt Road until all of Richmond's football
department returns from Ireland and London, where the Tigers played
Essendon in an exhibition match on the weekend.

And there also is a telling meeting in Adelaide next week between
Miller and Richmond utility Jason Torney, who could feature in the
trade.

Get a grip mate.

If you want to trade #4 to Kangaroos for Kane Johnson, be my guest and Richmond will again be subject to more rubbish than it has this year.

I don't take this terribly seriously, my life expands beyond the realm of footy, I enjoy posting on here. I'm not a trade officer and this is all my speculation. Those of you who can see it in the light it was intended, thank you. It's open to speculation and disagreement, but the point of shooting at me personally is silly and achieves nothing.

At least you could say, look, I don't agree with what you're saying, I think we're being shortchanged and you're going to have to come up with a better deal.

Lets keep it intellectual on here guys. You may think my PROPOSAL (Geddit?) was harsh, but I thought it wasn't far off the mark with what the respective clubs are trying to acheive.

I'm sorry if you felt I was attacking your club, and indeed its players.

Thats exactly why they can't afford Torney. They are budgeting to recruiting a players such as Johnson. They have told Torney he can look around at other clubs as they are unsure at this point if they can offer him the deal he wants. They are leaving room for Kane.

Surley Richmond would be willing to give Adelaide pick #4 for K, Johnson, What Adelaide do with that pick is up to them, but is definately worth such a high draft pick. I don't see how the Tigers would be the fools in this trade.

I believe the Crows wan't Carey bad enough to then pass that pick onto to the Roos. It all sounds very simple, but i'm sure the clubs will make it confusing.

Don't sweat it, everton ... I'm just cranky at you cause your mob knocked off the Gunners on Saturday night.

We do endorse and encourage lively discussion here, and forgive me if I confused you with the many clowns who drop by the Tiger board to offer nothing but insult.

Please don't take it personally. Keep up the creative thinking ....

I thought St Kilda had that title parceled up, at least for as long as they keep Cornflakes as Coach.

BTW Ive tried to "keep it intellectual" in my reply, at least to the level of intellect you have shown by repeatedly calling Richmond the laughing stock of the league.

ummmmm...

that adelaide journo : " Rucci "is now sayng that richmond will get Johnno and torney will go to Adelaide...someone from richmond to the Kangaroos...keeping all our drat piks and trading plyers for johnson....?
