Basically which club fills their supporters with more false hope?
We all know Geelong who are sitting atop the AFL premiership ladder this season always cough up a furball and choke drastically in September so it's left to some other club to be the biggest letdown to their fans after providing so much promise this early on.
Firstly Collingwood - they've lost 27 or 30 something Grand Finals yet just getting there keeps the supporters coming back for more in the hope they'll one day equal Carlton/Essendon with their 16th flag.
Not afraid to be losers all over again the supporters seem to love the slight chance year after year. I put them in 2nd as to how much hope their flogs have at them actually winning.
Then the 'Aints - currently 2nd on the ladder once we count out the Cats and these guys know false hope better than anyone. I'd rate them 4th at this point.
Fremantle - racing up the table to 4th are the soccer players and defying all odds to be a smokey right now yet the fans are already getting 2019/2020 premiership tatts out west. i'd put them at 3rd in the hope stakes for now.
Next is Essendon - to their fans, snagging a cup now which will eventually be a prime catalyst for welcoming Hird back into the fold is a major trigger for false hope. I'd consider them 5th atm
Finally Richmond - No Rance, no Riewoldt, no Cotchin, no problem. Yet their supporters are so desperate for an excuse to get drunk and brazenly harass teenage girls at the footy that the hope is reaching an all time high. Forget the optimism graph, these flogs are sitting 4th & are definitely in first place on the false hope register.
Its difficult to predict what will sell out faster with these ‘people’, truckloads of chicken manure or microwaves.
Fig 13; Notice the Hawfs at 13th.
