I think the unfortunate circumstance of Kelly gives us an opportunity to play Spriggs and it gives him a chance to prove his worth. Itsis apparent by the posts on the board that his name is almost always the first mentioned when trades at years end is raised, the issue might well be that if he is seen in a poor light his trade worth might not be what one would hope.
What would Spriggs be worth. Well, Street picked at 17 and after 5 years on our list, minimal play, moderate success, we traded him for 20, basically around the same trade pick as was used on him in the draft.5 years of training education etc raised his value not one jot. We used the pick gained to get Haynes who was drafted by WC at 16. He had played several good AFL games but as he was out of contract he and he wanted out they probably had little bargaining power. It seems that unless a player has raised himself into the top 10 to 15 players, his value will diminish and the pick used on him will be deemed irrelevant. Therefore Spriggs , picked at 15 ish would not be worth that now.
The one chance we have at least getting something decent for him is to play him. Street would probably not have even been worth the pick we got for him if
1, we he had continue to play him in the VFL.
2,When he played his last match against the Saints he played his best game for us.
We must give Spriggs a chance to show his worth to us and other prospective clubs. If he manages a BOG somewhere or even some solid form his chance of staying in the Big time with us or somewhere else will be raised

Rahilly > Spriggs

I sincerely hope they go to Tenace or Enright before contemplating Spriggs.

from what I've been told Rahilly won't be playing beyond 2004 because of knee troubles. Apparently he's in real pain ever week just one of the people who have shocking knees. Spriggs would certainly be traded if they have any sense.

I'd like to see Koula given a chance also.

Honestly believe we have the dedicated, determined and good enough midfielder to replace Kelly in the side for the time being already - Chappy.

But yeah, i guess we'll see how it pans out. I'd rather have DJ in the side than Rahilly or Spriggs.

Agreed there.

My thinking is Spriggs is better than he is showing in the V's.He has shown he can play at the level before. Im also trying to think long term, not just the remaining games this year.If he is left to rot then we will be flushing his value down the drain. We cant aford to just delist players and get no recompense for them. I dont see DJ or Rah's being attractive to trade.I also understand the need for game time for Callen and Byrnes.

I'd much rather see Enright come in to replace Kelly. I've noticed his name come up a fair bit in possible trades and I think it would be stupidity for Geelong to get rid of him.

I just cant see how you can hope to trade spriggs if he cant get a game... Very few sides will trade for a player who isnt getting a regular AFL game let alone trade something decent for him.

The side must see the potential in the player to be good at their club even if he is not getting a regular game at his current club.A club might have a heap of a certain type of player. Kinglsey has got far more game time at Geelong than at the Roos because of our lack of forwards.Carlton has got good value out of Scotland and Bower, even if it has not worked with Clarke.
Several teams just this round have been remarked on their or lack of it, to run out games, Essendon for 1.They would see Spriggs as a player that they could improve and a player that will run others into the ground. I would love to do a deal involving one of their young big guys like Laycock.

I don't see why all of you are so against Spriggs, I mean what does he have to do to please anyone? He kicked 3 goals on the weekend he was named in the best so he couldnt have played 'shocking'. I think this is a good opportunity for him to get a game because he has been out of the senior side since after round 3 and he has kicked 2-3 goals in alot of his games so he has probably gained alot of experience during a long period of time. I will agree with everyone when he does get a game and he plays crap but until that happens I'm sticking to thinking he is a descent player and deserves a fair chance. I think if we do trade him it will be a big mistake he just needs a bit more game time and I think he could turn into a fantastic player because we all know he is a great runner so that's a start atleast.

Learn to kick would be a start.

If he looked like Ling, he wouldn't have a fan in the world.
