What a bl**dy champ! Sav was also good, Carey too. Our forward line is playing brilliantly at the moment. But I think Sinclair should get some praise. He turned the game back in the roos favour. He did everything right.
I hate it when the games close and I hear the commentators say that Clayton is on the ground. I just don't have faith in him. He makes too many critical mistakes! Like the one today: 2 on 1 with sinclair and it was a turnover. Just too costly.

In approximate order, how Pickett mentally outplayed Peter Matera :

- Shirtfront, middle of the first quarter.
- Later that quarter, contested ball on the wing, Pickett lying on the ground arms outstretched, Matera knocks it out of his hands straight over the boundary line.
- Early second quarter, contested ball on the wing, Matera picks it up and takes it straight over the boundary line.
- Late second quarter, Matera picks up the ball but hesitates to dispose of it. Pickett tackles him from behind and Matera is gone.
- Late second quarter, Pickett outbodies Matera on the goal line to mark and goal.
- Early third quarter, Pickett loses Matera to take an eventually uncontested mark, and kick a goal. I think it was after this (Pickett's fourth goal?) that Matera was moved off Pickett.

It was almost a systematic erosion of Matera's confidence by Pickett, which is why I gave him 3 votes. It is arguable that he had a bigger impact on the win than Harvey, Grant, Rocca, Sinclair, Carey, Burton or anyone else, but there is no doubt in my mind that Pickett's demolition of Matera is one of the most complete obliterations of a direct opponent that I have ever seen. Three votes to Choppy!

I thought 'EXACTLY' the same thing when I heard that Clayton was on the ground, if he doesn't get dropped next week, I'll bl00dy crack the sads!

I'll give him credit where it's due, but it's not due this week. He was shocking.

Next week, with the possibility of Stevens missing out through injury, look for a recall for Daniel Harris, who did well against the Bummers first-up, and a debut for Daniel "Butt-Head" Pratt, whose physical style could play a similar role that Dean Solomon does for the Bummers, only with better general awareness and disposal skills.

Heres hoping that Denis leaves Jess on the ground for the full game next week. Like I said last week seems he isnt worryin too much about his hair or his looks lately as he is definately going in harder. Reminds me of Simmo a few years when he played off the bench (sorry if I have said this before) but things are looking up for the kid.

It was easily Jess Sinclair's best game in the royal blue and white (unlucky not to get votes in the B&F so far). He ran, he chased, he dived into the packs, he delivered the ball well....it's more good signs.

Oh, and I can vouch for Darky's comments about Clayton's Clanger....I was sitting there with him and said the same thing as well.

Absolutely, just hope the club does the right thing by us all and sign up the champ for another couple of years, before the end of the season. I hate going through the 'will he stay or will he go' faze at the end of the year..

The most complete obliteration that you have ever seen. LMAO. I think your reading into it a bit much there Darky. Pickett kicked a few goals and laid a tackle so Matera moves off him. It happens in every game to every player. If you get carved up you get moved onto someone else. It wasnt an obliteration. An obliteration would have been 43 touches 12 goals and 16 marks. He had a great second quarter and bobbed up every now and then to do enough for BOG. Big deal, ive seen a lot worse.

Anyways enjoy your win because your season could come to an early end next week.

Umm.. if you say so Jod

6 goals, 4 on Matera in 2 & a bit quarters. Can you name a single thing Peter Matera did right on the day?

Peter Matera is an absolute champion of the game, but Pagan outcoached Judge in using the physically stronger, and mentally more confident Pickett on him in the goalsquare.

Shinboners was sitting watching the same TV set, when after the initial Choppy shirtfront I said to him "Choppy should physically intimidate him again to get on top mentally". I am convinced he did this, and that's why I gave him three votes.

Pickett 6 goals. Matera : bench.

Roos 24.10.154 d. Parrots 17.8.110

This is a more sensible post Darky. Matera was beaten on the day, Matera had a bad game and Pickett had a good game. Obliteration though was just silly, i think you get a little too excited sometimes Darky.

Better than the season being over by Round 3, huh Parrot Boy? :p :p :p :p :p :p

To be honest Darky i was having a conversation with a friend of mine who is a Port supporter and he was so happy cos his team is in second and there going really well and i laughed. He teased me about being in second last but i just dont care. What does it matter if Canberra make the finals. I would rather be crap now when there is no way in hell anybody but Essendon are gonna win the flag anyway and be better in a few years when the Dons have cooled off. It all good and well if Canberra make the finals but does it really matter, you will only get beaten by a lot just like last years embarrassment.

Id rather have a bad year now and rebuild and get some good youngsters than have a reasonable year with no chance of a flag. Canberra have just as much chance of winning this years flag as the mighty Eagles do...zippo, none, nada, zilch. But we will gain out of this year with more good youngsters while all your team does is get older. I think your on the losing side of the bargain.

I stick by my "mental obliteration" claim, because by the time Pickett laid that tackle from behind on Matera, he had him worked out.

Pickett physically intimidated Matera to the point where twice in the first half he forced Matera to paddle the ball over the line to avoid a physical contest, and then late in the second quarter had Matera so unaware of his (Pickett's) whereabouts, that Matera hesitated and eventually shat himself in possession of the ball after a Pickett tackle.

After a one on one marking contest in the goalsquare later in the second quarter, and Pickett eluding Matera early in the third quarter to crumb a goal, I think it is safe to say he had Matera completely worked out, and obliterated any impact that Matera had on the game.

As previously stated, Matera is a sensational player (and in my opinion probably the Parrots' greatest ever), but on the day he was more soundly beaten by his man than anyone else on the ground, and more soundly beaten than I have seen in any duel for a long time.

Pickett : 6 goals, 3 votes.
Matera : bench.

LOL. Nothing new, just a broken record, this post is almost identical to the one you posted earlier. Now i will retort, Matera bad game, Pickett good game. Thats about as far as that duel went. Anyways they will be playing side by side next year :D

No response to this post i see Darky. Obviously you understand that i am right.

The Roos are having a rebuilding year after finishing 4th! At least we don't wait until we are at the arse end of the ladder before we rebuild. During this rebuilding year, we are also in a position to stake a challenge for a finals berth, as opposed to a wooden spoon like your good(?) selves.

Where would you rather be - rebuilding from 4th or rebuilding from 13th?

Intelligent enough for you?
