Injury A fitting end

Based on his season to date, the expectation that Trengove would offer more than an L-plate key forward is equally misguided.

Some of you blokes must be taking the piss. "If only we'd played a guy who has been a total failure up forward all year in the forward line, we definitely would've won'.

I agree, both Trengove and Marshall should be third talls, we need both, or westhoff forward

Trengove won't play for the PAFC again. What we need is one of Eddy or Frampton to establish themselves as an AFL footballer next season. Preferably Frampton, since he can also offer a chopout in the ruck.

People have been pretty harsh on Marshall and McGovern. McGovern was a free man in the first. I'm not sure about the rest of the game but Marshall definitely had two defenders on him most of the night. To expect a first year kpf to beat two defenders of a team known for intercept marking is stupid.

The club gambled on our mosquito fleet winning us the game while marshall was meant to play decoy all night and it backfired on them brilliantly. They need to answer for it
Our main mosquito Robbie Gray didn't even score us a goal. Utterly disappointing.

My prayers go out to the Port/Liverpool supporters who got doubled-whammied last night. Came home from the Port game to check the full time score at 5-0 to Man City. Honestly one of the worst nights of my life (so far!).

Gray was forced to play midfield because of the first quarter barrage.

I am actually not a fan of when we move Gray to the midfield and Westhoff to the backlines at the same time during the game. It's like a conceding white flag that we will not win the game.

The most Trengove would do is come in and play that defensive tagging role in the forward line.

We sacrifice a shit load offensively doing that.

Whether or not that puts us over the line is for debate. I am not a fan of it in general, a move like that is just masking the cracks that Trengove is a shit forward.

I do think Marshall would be up there in score involvements. The running and marking the ball backwards at full speed, starting some chain handballs, there was a possession where he was tackled onto the boundary and absolutely needed to thread a handball between 3-4 West Coast in that process and he nailed it.

He did a lot this game that Trengove would be unable to do as a forward.

1 goal assist, 5 score involvements (which is his average), 13 pressure acts.

Marshall did as well as expected and will only get better.

Trengove averaged 3.7 score involvements for the year. So Marshall eclipsed him as a forward for production in the space of three games.

I totally agree, that's why I called for Trengove to replace Johnson and for Marshall to hold his spot in the team. It would have provided us with more options forward and back, but no, we went small, paid the price and not for the first time in 2017.

The score is the easy bit, believe me. Watching the actual game will send you over the edge.

Tried to watch earlier but wasn't loaded onto WatchAFL yet. Part of me doesn't want to watch knowing the result but I seldom miss any of our games.

Jacko in for a useless impey allows the flexibility we lacked having to play westhoff back for almost the whole game. Plus when we were getting smashed in stoppages he provides almost an extra clearance player. Lack of talls all year cost us and did again last night. Wow. Didnt see that coming.

Let's be honest, if we scaped through we may have been set up for a 15+ goal smashing (loss) in either semi or prelim. We are no where near the best 4 teams. I am happy we stuck with playing youngsters. But we would have been throwing meat to the wolves. Thank #### this team cant disappoint me anymore in 2017....
oh great, now you've set Ken a challenge he can't resist.

When comes to football I am a simpleton.
Some have said that we should have played Trengove others have said we should have not played Impey. Maybe they're right maybe they're wrong, I don't know.
For me, as a simpleton, two things lost us the game, our skills and our kicking for goal. Unfortunately our skills have, in the main, let us down for a very long time.

I am disappointed and angry and will be for a long time.

2014,2015, 2016, 2017. How many times is going short going to have to cost us before KT steps in?

Last night was our season in a nutshell. Shouldn't have been playing that game against West Coast, let alone be in that position at the end of the game. That free kick was utter bullshit but we only have ourselves to blame for getting to that point. Oh well.

What we needed last night in that last 5 minutes was Luke campaigner. Say all you want about him but he would have took charge of that game and been barking out orders what to do and where to kick. We had nobody last night all our leaders are shyt. All year poor selection and no direction and you all knew what the end result was going to be.

This loss was the culmination of years and years of soft decisions, flaccid leadership, a crippling inability to be ruthless, and a sickeningly arrogant attitude of 'she'll be right m8' that has infested every level of this club for close to a decade. No need to demand accountability and consequences for abject failure, no need to expect better and cut and cull and keep tinkering and doing every single thing possible to improve. Nah, just sit back and squeeze the lube because 'we would have taken this at the start of the year' or 'just wait until x matures' or 'they're hurting and they'll learn from this' or 'that's just footy' or 'swings and roundabouts' or whatever other ****ing cliched, trussed up euphemism for loser-talk has become the vogue statement of the day.

It was only "a fitting end" if we are happy to have become the new Richmond.

Let that sink in for a moment. Port Adelaide, once the greatest club in this country, has become Richmond. We are a laughing stock of incompetence and mediocrity. We are packed to the rafters with losers, no-hopers, heel-coollers and seed throwers who are just happy to be here, man. Aren't you happy to have made finals?? Do you even love this club? It's an 18 man competition moite, just be thankful we aren't bending over to the wooden spooners like last year! Youse know it's not life or death right, *sits back and sips on diet coke* there are more important things in life than footy. *Shrugs apathetically*

We will continue to disappoint and choke and fail when it matters again and again and again, until we learn to make some ****ing hard calls and be ruthless again.

I have been waiting for what feels like eternity for this club to learn how to make tough, winning-culture decisions. I waited for heads to roll after 2007, I waited in the long, agonising 2008-2010 wasteland for the board to finally get rid of a finished coach, I waited for the penny to drop in the dark years of 2011-2012, and now here I am again, waiting waiting waiting for our club to make some ****ing tough calls on the bunch of losers sitting in our coaches box.

Why is Matthew Nicks still at our club? He is a proven failure. Why was Brendan Lade allowed to swan back in as a coach despite years of meh at Richmond? Why is Michael Voss allowed to do nothing with our midfield for years on end with no consequence? Why is Hinkley even still here when he clearly doesn't have what it takes? Why has "making finals" become our goal, all of a sudden? Where has the belief and desire of our club gone? Why is there noone at Port who seems to understand the dire culture of choking and failure we are cultivating right now? Where is the urgency to fix it?

A "fitting end" indeed.

Im quite content with the loss. We have been put out of our misery.
We would be skulked by ten goals plus coming up against any of the top four sides and we simply got what we deserved imo.
A very tangible ceiling over this club at the moment.

Actually perhaps a fitting end would have been getting smashed by west coast so that we would have to address the elephant in the room. Instead we have wow we made finals and darn it all if only we had kicked straight we would have showed those giants a thing or two!! Dammit i want change.
agreed.... such a good out for Ken and co... oh well
