Tambling over Franklin isnt the biggest draft bust. Sad to say, but its easily Mitch Thorp over Joel Selwood given the differences in their respective careers.

Oh I most emphatically disagree.

Tambling was only gifted games because he was a low draft pick, his actual output was dreadful. Who cares that he played more games than Thorp when both delivered nothing of value to the teams who recruited them? In fact Tambling was a liability to the Tigers who'd much prefer to forget all about him.

Franklin is the best player of his generation and a billion times more valuable than Selwood, who has never even been a top 5 AFL midfielder and is a poor captain as his finals record attests. Take away the ducking and corresponding free kicks and he's merely an above-average footballer albeit a media favorite, which is why he stopped being rated as an elite midfielder around the same time he stopped ducking at every contest - coincidence? I think not!

Griff and Roughy both captained their respective clubs and played lots of football, they were hardly misses like Tambling.

Melbourne are a special case though. Watts was a howler over NicNat, and Melbourne have a history of getting it wrong time and time again. Nobody ever speaks about Lucas Cook as a first rounder, and Cale Morton's uncontested ball winning was so high he was never going to learn to win his own ball at AFL level.
