At our 10 year anniversary and with the calm of the bye now upon us, it’s worth asking the big question.

Who is the single player who has made the greatest contribution to our club’s success over a decade?

No surprise as to the nominees, but who among them could we least afford to have lived without over the last decade?

Down back - Phil, Heater, Haynes?

In the middle - Mummy, Cal, Cogs, Kelly, Whitfield?

Up front - TFG, Jezza?

So who is your single player MVP of the decade - and why?

One single vote per post, no 50/50 split votes.

Who is the greatest Giant of them all?

I'm nominating Cal.

Without him acting as a jack of all trades in the middle, a glue holding together our initially inexperienced and now lopsided players together we'd have a fraction of the wins we'd otherwise have.

So the scoreboard currently reads:

Cal 2 - TFG 2.

For me, over the last 3 years it’s TFG shading Lachie.

However, for the decade as a whole the shortlist for me is Mummy and Cal.

It’s simply ridiculous how structurally critical Mummy has been for so long.

It may have been due to a list management failure, but he’s held us together at the contest against all odds for longer than anyone imagined was possible.

However, only one man has done the same without a retirement break and been the role model for TFG, Cogs, Hopper, Taranto and all our mids.

And that man is Cal.

If you had to select an Orange 22 to play for your life at anytime over the last decade, the first name on the sheet would be Cal.

Further, we stole him straight from the Poodles kennel in broad daylight. That’s truly delicious icing on the cake.

So make that:

Cal 3 - TFG 2.

More new votes welcome over the bye week ahead before we reach a final tally.

Thanks to all for your votes!

Cal Ward.
Was in the top 3 in the BnF in each of our first 7 years.
Injured for 2. Will probably be top 3 and may win it again this year.
He has comfortably been our best contributer so far.
Cameron and Toby next best.
