Neville is a very good player at VFL level, but really didn't have that extra 'something' to make it in the AFL. You'll notice nobody else picked him up, but everyone knew his talents.

The guy is great at getting the ball, and racks up good numbers because of that, but apart from that, he's ordinary ( by AFL standards ). He's like Foley, but without the burst of speed, and without that ( and the extra time it gives Foley to find a teammate, steady and dispose ), he'd be caught out at the top level.
and Sylvester has the extra something and of course the whole comp were breaking down his door. Get real dude. ;)

I didn't read all the posts in this thread so I'm probably repeating what others have already said but in no way whatsoever should we be looking at tanking!!! That's a loser mentality and I'm sick and tired of hearing it. We have had too long a history of failure and I want the list we have now to PLAY TO WIN...at all costs. Regardless of whatever benefits come the way of losers. That's the past and we should be looking at building a culture of playing to win...anything less and we can look forward to another 20+ years of misery.

Given the number of picks the new clubs will have in the coming drafts plenty of them will be up for sale so to speak.

The price won't be as high as it has been in recent years given that experienced good ordinary players will be in demand more so than high draft picks as the new clubs will have plenty of them. If our list management is smart then we have the potential to capitalise in the next 4-5 years even longer term.

In a few years

N.Brown, Simmonds, Richo, Bowden Johnson will be gone. The first 3 are cream, we will be in deep trouble again.

One more year wouldve been good to get Rich and Natanui. and Fevola coming out of contract ;) But if the team has progressed that much that we cant get the PP then so be it, I just fear that in 3 years we will be on here looking back thinking "if only we had one more shocking year" and if any of you have seen extensive footage of natanui and even more so Rich, then you'll know what I mean.

Love seeing the tiggs win, but our list is still miles away, 2 super talents, plus number 1 pick in PSD that would net us a big fish this time round bc we are getting closer, would go a long way to establishing the playing list of this club over the next 5 years.

but all of you demanding wins and claiming its dirty to tank, enjoy looking up at the hawks, eagles and Blues over the next few years... clubs who dont let sentiment get in the way of business decisions that will bring success.

Hawks will be able to trade players like Dowler, Thorp, Williams to top up with top draft picks, who will we be able to trade for top picks? Dont kid yourselves, we are rank amateurs compared to some of the smooth movers in the AFL :(
It's not too late.....we can still sey us selves up with one more year down the bottom.

I fee that in more ways than one, our club is in NO position to tank. For starters it may very well be a one way ticket for TW if we failed to make much further impression on our win/loss so from that point which is where it all starts, expect at a win at all costs frame of mind

My line of thinking is somewhat different.
I stil don't think we'll finish too high up the ladder this year. 10th at best. That's still a top 6 or 7 pick. Next year, maybe lower reaches of the 8 (hopefully). That's still a top 10 pick.
use them wisely and we won't 'need' the 2010 draft as much as other clubs who will finish up the top for the next two or three years.
In other words, if we are relying on the 2010 or 2011 draft to turn ourselves into a contender, then we're screwed. really screwed.
Yes, I know you need to keep developing your list to stay near the top, but if these draft concessions really do come in for the Gold Coast team, then I don't think we'll be as screwed over as some clubs.
I'm not panicking about it. Just my thoughts.
Looks like I'm not the only one who has changed his View on tanking...

Here is the link.... http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=453836&highlight=tank

... and this I wrote in another thread...
With pretty much every quality kid from next year being tied to the 2 new clubs the last year to be unaffected is this year.

We are in a situation because of our poor season last year that we could capitalize in getting the first 2 picks. We could get the best KPP and add to our already improving midfield stocks.

Like I have said before the rules are in place and the prize finishing last is enormous.

The future success of the football could well be decided in the next Draft, which will have a long term affect on the club. We could go from a middle of the road club to top 4 whilst other clubs fall victim to the difficulties associated in rebuilding whilst the AFL pump Draft concessions and money into West Sydney and the Gold Coast. The real possibility of a Team Falling over in Melbourne will be huge and once one falls over the focus will turn on the next.

For those who think a Tank is not an option ask your selves if our list is good enough to carry us for the next 5-10 years??? Can we with stand the depletion of available talent absorbed by the new clubs??? My opinion is mixed, so the SAFE option for me would be to cement our position in this the LAST unaffected Draft and Inject our team with another 2 quality ten year players in the Deleido and Cotchin mould.
